I had hoped to bump the previous job thread which was titled 'What do you do for work?' or something similar but couldn't find it for the life of me!
Since we've got a lot of new members here, I thought it'd be a great idea to get to know each other and our backgrounds and maybe find out what kind of work everyone does. If I remember correctly, we are a community with a majority of members in some sort of creative field, so why not answer the question that nearly everyone asks when meeting someone:
What do you do for work?

according to my facebook, i make cheap shit from China look good. to elaborate - i do product photography and design. so photography of stuff like handbags, jewellery, cosmetics & other accessories, and then i put them into a monthly 'new products' catalogue and also use the photos for our website, posters etc.
some of the stuff we sell is so crap, often i'll pick up an earring to take a photo and it'll break in my hands, and then i'll see it being sold in Forever New for something like $15, haha.

Nothing to arty for me. I am a Business Process Architect for a Bank meaning that when the Bank wants to implement something new and needs a process for it or when they wat to review an existing process I do it.
Do that sound suitably boring?

www.woolworths.com <- lol I work for woolworths as a stockroom manager/dairy and freezer second in charge. Thats a hard way of saying I bring the boxes in half the time and the other half the time I take stuff out of them and put them on the shelf. I hope to get out of woolworths in the next year and a half, as I'm coming close to completing my degree

I like hearing people describe what they do. You get a feel for what they like and dislike about their employment and employers.
To answer my own question, I recently started a new job this week. My previous job of 2 years was as an in-house designer for a large electrical retailer - basically designing the layout for press advertisements, marketing material, signage, catalogues and TV graphics.
Now I'm working at the casino/entertainment complex in their marketing department as a designer of publications. I do about 25% of the regular design work too but my main focus are the publications. I've worked in both agency/studio environments and in-house corporate environments and I definitely like working internally rather than dealing with hundreds of clients.

Nothing creative about my line of work…I’m an internal auditor for the state government (Education). Our main objectives are to ensure that schools are following departmental guidelines and procedures and that the funding they receive is going where it should be. Also ensure that enrolment figures they report are accurate etc.
We are well liked…
I don’t mind the job but you have to deal with some real arseholes who don’t give you the time of day.

I'm a marketing coordinator for a telco. I mostly do online marketing, but I'm also the bastard who sends you annoying sms offers.
I like what I do, as I get to incorporate a lot of different aspects, from design to copy writing, to analytics. I also spend a lot of time making Excel spreadsheets and graphs. But by far the best part of my job is the people I work with. We have a small group, just the four of us, but we have a lot of fun and crack each other up and listen to bad music. Also not so shabby, Grant (boyf) works for the same company (but on a different floor) so we get to ride in together/have lunch together/shenanigans.

I've completed an apprenticeship in Graphic Prepress (Graphic Design with printing undertones) and used to work for the local paper and printhouse. Now I work for a national magazine called The Groundsman (which luckily for me is also based in my hometown), and we have a commercial printing front for the locals as well. I do all the design, layout, print quoting and technical stuff, as well as manage our small IT server and network, and create and maintain our website. Keeps me busy! Edit: www.thegroundsman.com.au if anybody wants a peek. I don't charge for criticism. @blue_june_destroyer: I think I found the original thread you were looking for, because I originally posted the above in it. Wasn't sure how to link to it, so I've just cut and pasted the path of the thread below. Hope this helps in some way: OZPHORIA.COM - Official Australian Smashing Pumpkins Community :: Ozphoria Message Board :: General Discussion :: What Do You Do For Money?

I work for GE Money.
But I've put in an application for full time musician, currently only working part time. If the next year goes well, I think my application will be approved which means no more 9 to 5.

I do lots of things!
Mainly I'm the HR guy for an office branched out of the ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety. I also work casually on weekends in the CD department at my local JB Hifi. I DJ at an indie club called Rev on Friday nights... and I also do a bit music journalism for BMA, the street press in Canberra.
This will all of course change very soon, as I'm moving to Melbourne!

Hey Josh, good to see you back here, good luck with the move down to Melbourne As for me, web code monkey! I work as a designer/web developer here: www.vividgroup.com.au ... been here for 2 years now, definately the best place I've worked. Get to do a good mix of design and code, which I love. These are some of the projects I've worked on, either design or coded with programmers. www.thewest.com.au, www.zu.com.au, www.coote.com.au, www.whitfert.com.au, www.dwf.org.au ... others too. Just can't think atm. And besides that, of course Ozphoria and the writing/web monkey work for the Pumpkins. Needless to say, Im always on the internet or a computer of some sort.

i'm 4/5ths of the way through a psychology degree, and a few days a week i work one on one with young children who have autism. it's mostly ABA therapy and working on general life skills and speech, especially with the kids who are nonverbal. prior to that i volunteered at a program for adults with acquired brain injuries, which i absolutely loved. i've also done some research assistant work for PhD students and am currently volunteering as a mentor for refugee adolescents. and although this doesn't classify as a job, i'm quite fond (some say too fond!) of painting lyrics and such onto clothing, and also experimenting with acrylic and canvas when i should be studying
