Todd - no set dates, but i reckon we should sort out the names by the first week of December, and people just make sure it arrives by xmas (maybe send it by the 19th?)
explosionsinthesky - i like your idea for creating mixes =)
i've updated the first post with the list of who is participating, 12 so far.

Maybe we should do a list of stuff NOT to include on our mixes. Cos I definitely dont want any Mars Volta. Im sure theres other stuff that i dont want a bar of, but i cant think of it right now.

I usually create a mix that flows like an album, I always pay a great attention to detail in regards to mood. I'm also big on not including a tracklist because quite often a person can see a band name, and subconciously judge it on what they've heard / read of said band.
I will of course include a tracklist with this one, but yeah, just some ideas and insights into how I roll with my mix cd'ing

Ha, yeah im exactly the same, mood is the determining feature, mood and flow. Sometimes songs i really want to put on will be left out in favour of continuity. And usually i wont include a tracklist and then give it to the person about a month or 2 later, but with this ill probably just fold it up so youll have the choice whether to look right away or not.

A good plan. I always find the things that make up my mix cd's are about mood and education. I love putting artists in there that aren't great influences on me, or aren't people I listen to all the time, but ones that will give the album a flavour or mood to help it flow. Goddamn I love making mix cds lol. I dare say we're all hip to the Rob Gordon philosophy of how to make the perfect "mix tape."

okay it looks like no one else is going to join so should i just work out the names now?
i was thinking, i don't want to know who gets me (i want to be surprised!), so perhaps the names could be divided into two groups and one person could do one group (with my name in it), and i could do the other group (with the other person's name in it). unless someone can come up with a better idea...? edit: nevermind, it's not worth the effort.
what if we say the cut-off date to mail your cd is friday December 19th?

I've made about 7 different drafts alreaday, started listening to each of them to suss them out to try and identify which one sounds the most promising.

hey - we're not meant to write who we are or anything when we send it right? like its meant to be anonymous the whole time isnt it?

hahaha, no it's meant to be a secret! although obviously we'll end up finding out later.
can people please make sure they include their full name when sending their postal details, or a fake name if you don't want to put your actual one. and your state!
i've started mine and have about 150 songs i have to get down to 20, haha. what if there was an option of doing a two-disc set....? yes/no?

Well in the spirit of giving - i guess its up to you wether you wanna make a 5 disc box set or a 3 track sampler.
I just need to know if the person im making the cd for prefers east coast gangsta rap or west coast? Its not really something you wanna get wrong.
