it could be the server you are hosting it from?
i think if you host it at lycos.uk they allow you have remote loading [which means you won't get a blank box]

i know mine didnt work last night as the msnc.net site was down but thats all fixed now. im using that because my university is too busy spending money on inviting overseas guests and putting them up in the duxton (read: one of the most expenisive hotels in perth) rather than trying to fix the network servers.
if the avatars dont load for days at a time then try refreshing the page, you might have a cached version of the avatar and it may have changed.
