It was on Triple M half an hour ago... I went for the Fighters of Foo (because they were in my CD player at the same time)... But Nirvana are still one of my favourite bands... What did you think

Nirvana definately beat the Foo Fighters. I like the Foos but not as much as Nirvana. Kurt just had this thing about him, he was almost an enigma. Dave's good but he's just another singer.

actually i prefer the foos, nirvana were good cos they were "there" at the right time, but the foos add a couple more dimensions to the music that make them better

I think Nirvana is much better in terms of lyrics, drums and bass then the Foo Fighters but the Foo Fighters are much better in terms of actual melodic vocals and guitaring.

for me personally - nirvana - even though songs were similair in the sence of fuzzy guitars, dark lyrics and pounding drums - they still had that something special.
to me the Foo Fighters lost that special something after the Colour and the Shape. They began to write these songs that fit the very standard formula most bands are using these days. Intro > Verse > Chorus > Verse > Chorus > Solo > Chorus > Outro
the first 2 foo albums are the only ones i really listen too. Nirvana will always be above them, sure they were there are the "right time" and i agree they were blown above the rest, many other bands should have gotten some credit besides just Nirvana. Fans of Nirvana if you havn't already - get into Mudhoney - they should have gotten alot of credit for their stuff, but alas they didn't. Tommorow Hit Today is a great album!

Intro > Verse > Chorus > Verse > Chorus > Solo > Chorus > Outro you get occasional good, more original songs from them, eg tired of you. . Fans of Nirvana if you havn't already - get into Mudhoney - they should have gotten alot of credit for their stuff, ...and the melvins, nirvana actually took inspiration from them. also janes addiction, sonic youth, the pixies, dinosaur jr are four rather influential bands which seemed to have gone largely unnoticed in more modern times. but to throw my hat into this debate; id suggest that nirvana were better than foo fighters because, although they had a slight pop fetish, they always played from the heart and their music was bigger than the image (eg wearing a dress in interviews, band members kissing, in utero). whereas the cant really be said for foo fighters.
