Guys thankyou for bumping this thread - I just read my You Am I review above and forgot how much of an amazing show that was - I went all alone but can still say it was one of the best nights of my life

urmm ... no Prisoner is still there. But it was odd, I found a new love for the song when they played it live and with the crowd screaming along ... I was 15 again. awww. Also I found my recording from a 1998 Living End show, its on tape (hehe old school). I'll see if I can transfer it over

i love how Wake Up became the 'new' Prisoner. at the Festival Hall show there was so many high school kids there, they were barely even excited for POS and then when the band played the into to Wake Up they went nuts, haha. i haven't even watched all of that dvd....

... wait till the "new kids" hear White Noise ... seriously it got an equal reaction to POS ... Chris even said at the start of it "Hope you're not sick of hearing this on the radio yet"

yeah it's great to see this thread again... Did anyone catch the mars volta on the bedlam in goliath tour? what did you think. I was so swamped at the time I forgot any outcome.

i saw Josh Pyke on thursday night, he was great as always. he was previewing tracks from his new album (Chimney's Afire, out in a few weeks) and they were sounding pretty good, a few more slower ones though, i tend to prefer his more upbeat stuff. and.... *drum roll please* this was my 100th concert, woot! i'm fixing up my concert list, so i'll post it when i'm done. anyway here's a pic + setlist

i love that song too! it's actually one of my favourites. he hasn't played it the last couple of times i've seen him, but the first two times i saw him i think he did because his album still wasn't out at that point.

i've had a busy week with gigs. i got free tix to a myspace secret show for Josh Pyke on wednesday night (and almost crapped my pants when i found out i got them). it was a solo acoustic show with no supports, it was so cool. i think this was the 6th time i've seen him now. after the show i was hanging around and talking on the phone etc, and i was about to leave and the guy on the door told me if i waited around Josh would come out and sign stuff, so i waited and i got to meet him!!! i've wanted to meet him for ages, he's so awesome. they were giving out posters that had been specially printed for the gig, and i got one signed =) then last night I saw The Living End (again!). they were awesome, this was i think the 15th or 16th time i've seen them now. supports were Children Collide & The Silents. we were 2nd row, but i was kind of watching between peoples heads because i had some tall people in front. they only played 6 new tracks though, i was kind of expecting them to play more than that. overall it was a really good show, not the best i've seen them do but still great. one of the things i like about them is you can always tell how much they enjoy playing live, Chris is always smiling and happy to be there, not in a crap mood or doing it half-assed. more photos here: www.flickr.com/photos/de-tec-tive/

yeah they weren't bad, we came in while they were playing. Children Collide were really good though, we were pretty impressed. i'm not sure if i'd really listen to them on cd, but their performance was great.

whats their stuff like? when i was emailing universal about metal promos they said we might like children collide. but i'd never heard their music.. thought they were kinda rocky though?

they're definitely not metal, not even close. i don't really like classifying stuff, but they're just rock i guess. they'd be a good band to shoot, the singer is a really good performer (i couldn't see any of the others). if FL offer passes for them in the future i reckon i'll give them a go.

i'd classify children collide as punkish if anything
bec fyi Ryan the drummer from CC stood in for the verses on Sat at the dream festival, was very interesting, oh speaking of the verses they have another run of tuesday nite shows at the toff coming up starting the 14th and are also playing the spiegeltent on the 31st (friday)

CC remind me of an early nirvana ... Bleach album early ... bit punk, noise, thrash ... but with a good pop music structure. If you get what I mean.

i saw Juke Kartel last night. if anyone else here watched Rock Star Supernova it was Toby's band. he's from the same area as me, and they were launching whatever their new single is. the show was alright, i think i enjoyed the supports more though. i only knew the one song he'd sung on the show, and the crowd were kind of annoying with lots of 30yo single women going on about how sexy they thought Toby was. the band played well and everything but i wasn't really getting into it... alot of Toby's performances on stage were a bit too "i learnt this while auditioning for Rock Star Supernova". he was interacting with the crowd heaps and taking peoples cameras then taking photos from the stage for them which was pretty cool, but then with one he basically shoved it down his pants (front and back) and took photos. everyone in the crowd seemed to love it but i thought it was pretty revolting. more photos on Flickr as usual - www.flickr.com/photos/de-tec-tive/

i saw Fleet Foxes on friday night, and Franz Ferdinand last night, both were great! i've only been listening to the Fleet Foxes for a short amount of time but i really like them, great harmonies. Oliver James was AMAZING, it was just Robin on stage singing by himself and the whole room was dead silent, it was so fucking good. as for Franz, i've been a fan for about four years now but i've missed their last two tours, so i was really looking forward to it. i really should have listened to them more leading up to the gig but oh well. they were so much fun though, i loved Alex's little dances, he was so cool. i wouldn't necessarily say he's hot, but he's definitely quite sexy on stage. the highlight was easily Do You Want To, i fucking love that song. other good ones were Michael, This Fire, Walk Away and Outsiders. they played about four or five new songs, didn't do Lucid Dreams though which i found a bit odd. i hardly took any photos, i really wanted to but security were really strict and i was on the barrier with a security guard directly in front of me, here's a couple though next up is Tegan & Sara this friday, i can't wait!

so as some people know i had a photo pass for Chill Island festival @ Phillip Island on sunday - it was AMAZING. when i got there i met with one of the organizers and asked if they had a sticker for me that said photo pass (usually you're given one at gigs to put on your chest where security can see), but the guy didn't have anything so he just gave me the pass he had around his neck which said VIP. i don't think i was meant to have a VIP pass, after all i was just there to take photos, but holy crap! anyway the first band was The Wagons (aka nobody bogan band), they weren't anything special. next was Ash Grunwald who i've seen once before at Falls in 2004, and he was really good as always. it was a warm day, not hot (thank god), but it was really windy because it was on the edge of the coast overlooking the ocean. it was overcast most of the day, and Ash had to stop his set for 10 mins when it started raining, but it stopped after that. next up was Josh Pyke, and he's probably my second favourite Aussie artist, he's amazing. anyway while Ash had been performing there were a couple of other photographers around, and one of them had spent alot of time shooting from the side of the stage, not from down on the ground in front of the barrier with the rest of us. i decided for Josh i'd try and get up there too, so i shot my three songs down in front of the stage (at this festival they didn't care about the song limit which was cool), and then i quickly ran around the side where security were guarding a gate but the guy let me straight through cos i had my VIP pass. so anyway i went up the stairs at the back and walked around, and the other photographer was there, and we got to stand at the side of the stage and watch Josh's ENTIRE SET. every now and again i'd take some more pics so it looked like i was doing something, but i mostly watched Josh. seriously, it was one of the most amazing concert moments i've ever had, it was priceless. i love his music so much, and to be able to stand and watch him basically all by myself only a few metres away felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity (it wasn't, obviously, but that's how it felt). there are no words to express how good it was, i was so close to crying, that's how much it meant to me. it totally made my week/month/year, it was so incredible. here's some pics of Josh next up was Blue King Brown, i don't know if the name refers just to the singer or the whole group but she/they were really good. next was Pete Murray (headlining). i haven't seen him since 2004, i used to really like him but i think he's gotten pretty boring now. i knew about half his stuff though, i used to listen to his first album heaps. anyway i took a TONNE of photos, if anyone wants to see the full set i uploaded to Faster Louder with all the crowd shots etc, check them out here - www.fasterlouder.com.au/gallery/9486/Chill-Island.htm
