The other day our rabbit ate a couple of buttons off our tv remote - aww silly bunny, cute, funny haha - no problems remotes are cheap and we dont even need a new one.
Today he ate 2 buttons of the Air-conditioner/heater remote - the air-conditioner for our RENTAL property - the remote that i just called up about and found out will cost $260 + $20 freight to replace! OMG! I cannot believe this.

Oh Kez! I imagine he's going to have a bit of a tummy ache! Oh noes!
This is a work bunnies/you pissed me off crossover post.
The girl I work with (new designer) is taking forever to produce ads and I find myself running myself ragged trying to meet our deadlines on time. I'm tired, I'm getting grumpy at my co-workers, I'm staying 2 hours after work each day whilst she waltzes out the door at 5pm...
Argh. I'm disappointed and I'm really not being paid enough for this.

I'm staying 2 hours after work each day whilst she waltzes out the door at 5pm... that's bullshit. does she realize you're staying back to late to do her work?

The trick is not to cover for people - when shit hits the fan you make sure they take the blame. Theoretically - you should have the runs on the board Bree - i mean - have you ever missed deadlines in the past? If deadlines become missed now - surely the head honchos will understand that the newbie is to blame.
I dont take sh!t at work. I make sure people know their place. Initially people burr up - but by god - it gets stuff done!

i'm not in a position of responsibility, so you guys would probably hate me. I leave at 5:30 on the dot every night, and get in just before 8:30. I work hard during those hours, and if something has to go out.. well.. shit happens. we should have gotten someone else on board to work on it. (atleast i dont really have that many dead liens as such). but i hate the fact that people expect you to work back if work is there fucking oprganise it better! its about 12.5 hours from when i leave home to when i get back at night.. so i'm not in the mood for some unpaid work. If they would like to pay me a fuckload more.. i might consider staying back on putting it on time in liue the other shitty thing is my 'boss' dude i report too is too happy to stay back each night for a few hours. i dont know if he doesnt like his family or what.. but its annoying that he expects the same from people who are happy to leave!

i'm the exact same Scott, i get here right on 8:15am (weird starting time i know), and the second it hits 5pm i'm getting my shit together and leaving. same with you, it takes me an hour to get home so i sure as hell don't want to be getting home any later than i already do. however with that being said, when my big deadline for the month rolls around (next monday, i'm already starting to stress), i'll have to stay back a bunch of nights, then go home and work on it some more, and usually have to spend alot of my weekend finishing it off. it's hell, but it has to get done and i figure it *kind of* all evens out.
my boss also stays back insanely late, but it's his company so i guess you have to. they expect it though, if you do it a few times here before you know it they're wondering where you are at 7pm.

haha. yes! that is the thing i hate! its not 'thanks for staying back a few times' its wondering why you dont stay back more often! grrr! I guess also this isnt where i'm planning to be for much longer, so dont feel the need to do more then my 40 hours a week.

hell no. and as another girl here pointed out - they don't do anything for you, so why should you do anything for them? or at least that's the case here anyway.

Woah!
Okay. I think my post was taken out of context a little and I was really surprised to read the responses that followed.
I don't like staying back every night but I'm the Senior in the Design room and our deadlines belong to both of us designers. I stay back because it's my work ethic. I'm a hard worker and I want my team in Marketing (in particular our Marketing Manager) to know that no matter what is thrown my way, I can produce an excellent result. If I don't feel the workload for the week is under control or we really haven't got a handle on what we have ahead of us, I'll stay back and put together concepts for new campaigns, organise the schedule for upcoming ads and get a start on the next days jobs by sourcing images etc. Sure, I'd love to leave at 5pm every day but then deadlines wouldn't be made, I'd look like I really didn't care about my work or the company and basically I'd feel like I'd be letting myself and my design work down.
The new girl seems to be treating her job as if it's just a job and not a career move. It's her chance to show a large company what she's made of as a designer and as a capable part of the team. At the moment she is just a broken cog in the system and it's up to me to take the lead and step up which I have done quite a bit since her predecessor left. I talked about getting a raise with my Manager today and she's going to lodge a formal request on my behalf which is apparently the way things are done. So my hard work is definitely earning me a lot of attention.
Bec, I was surprised to read your last post - I agree that a lot of workplaces may not do a lot for the individual but it depends on how you can better yourself and your position within the company that matters. Sometimes it's a selfless act from an employee that makes those higher in the company realise how much of an integral part of the team you really are or have the potential to be.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I'm pissed off that I'm not earning the salary that I should be considering all of the extra work I take on for the company's benefit and for the benefit of those around me. I don't mind working late to do this and sure it'd be great to be paid for my time but if it makes my job a little easier the next day for a few hours, then I'm pretty happy to do that.

You’re post wasn’t taken out of context Bree.. I was just complaining about my work For me this is a job.. I’m leaving soon.. maybe end of year.. and gonna build my house. After the house is done, i’ll see if i prefer drafting, or building. Really, I love graphic design shit. My friends come me for that sort of shit with their projects and its fun stuff to do! I’m not really enjoying drafting on a commercial scale, i have no real interest in car dealerships, or reece stores, or pirceline pharmacy’s if i do drafting, its residential. So this is really just a reference I started off with your work ethic Bree, but then i realised this isn’t me, and i just haven’t gotten around to leaving But I would be the same i think in a position of responsibility, and where i enjoy the work. Well, i hope i would Not that the office is bad or anything, this work just isn’t me.

Scotty, I totally understand where you're coming from.
At the moment, I'm doing the 'working to pay the bills/save/buy a house' thing. But at the same time I'm trying to make the company look better in the way they present themselves to the public and internally how we do things. I wish there was a job out there in magazine publication or in a design house for me but Perth is very small and the jobs are scarce at the moment. Chances are that if I did move on somewhere else, they wouldn't be able to offer me what I'm worth and what I'm after.
At least I know that when the time comes to have little Ozphorians, I'll be able to work from home!

I'm kinda the same as bree. The way I see it if I have to stay back one night but it is going to make my life easier the next day the I will do it. I have busted me ass for this company and my boss but get nothing back, and I am totally over it. Studying at tafe is my way into a new career but it is going to take so long.
I just want to work somewhere where my work is valued, that obviously isn't here, but I still can't stop trying to take a little pride in what I do otherwise what would be the point of gettng up in the morning.
I just know that I really need to get out of this place, it really has broken me.

But I would be the same i think in a position of responsibility, and where i enjoy the work. Well, i hope i would same here. i was just complaining, as usual, it's not as bad as i make it sound. it doesn't have that much to do with my job, it's mainly just my boss being an asshole. it's interesting to see how his constant negative attitude can have such a huge influence on the whole company and effect us all. anyway i hope it didn't come off like i just don't give a shit about my work, because i do, but i probably don't take it as seriously as i should sometimes. i probably need an attitude change too...

RENT INSPECTIONS!
Im so sick of renting, can't wait to buy our place soon ... just had a rent inspection since our rental was sold to new owners. The woman was here for 1 hour, going through everything in the house ... a stranger walking through the house telling me there are to many crumbs in the oven, the tracking base area of the door has to much dirt in it, the bush outside our bedroom window needs to be trimmed below the "bricked area" ... and a whole bunch of other crap.
Stupid Perth and your stupid expensive houses ... depressing that our first home will be 5 times the cost of when my sister got her first home 7 years ago ... stupid mining boom. stupid economy. stupid houses. stupid stupid.
AHHH!

So remember that company that I went for an interview at in February, then in May, then in July then was offered a 6 month contract position a few weeks ago where I told them that they couldn't offer me stability and the salary I needed so they said 'thanks for your patience, we'll keep you on file' and I said 'cool, I'll stay where I am'?
Well, I got an email from one of the creative managers there today basically asking me to consider a 12 month contract which will 'almost certainly turn into a permanent position'... What the hell?!
I'm so tempted to go through the process again and put the hard word on them for a large salary and see if they take it... I don't care whether I do get the job or not but if I can squeeze an impressive salary out of them and get a pretty kickass job in publications, then it may work out quite well...
I think I'm gonna weigh it up tonight and then send them an email explaining that it has to be worth my time and money for me to consider it... I'm up for review at my current job anyway so even if it doesn't work out, I have some kind of leverage!

If you are content enough at your current your, then definately try and get something great from the people offering the job! Worth the risk then! You're in a great position with a review coming up at your current job!
a friend at work played off two companies against each other and got a great pay rise, petrol money, gets paid to drive to work! i'm insanely jealous, as i have none of that, but well done to him for trying!
Good luck Bree!
