Awesome atmosphere at Sundays game for the most part, bar a few (actually a lot) of idiots who tested the patience of Police, it was a fun day on Adelaide's hill, Gilly was loving it as we chanted and cheered for him for virtually the whole of India's innings.
Just while i'm on these idiots (so many were thrown out for starting fights or just idiotic acts) - I can't believe how bad some people can get at these sporting events. I won't lie to you, i did not sleep at all Saturday night after a big one, and went straight to the cricket which was basically a whole day of drinking, but the way these people can act was just beyond me. I guess alcohol can bring out the worst in some. 2 guys were positive that i was Russel Robertson, which was pretty funny. One pulled me up and said, "No seriously, you're not him are you?", I must have needed a shave.
And Channel 9 not even showing todays game just shows how badly the interest in this competition has dissolved. For those interested, Sri Lanka batting first and after a shaky start, are slowly steadying at 2/44. Looks like Sagakarra is the key man as usual on 21 with Jayawardene 16.

Australian allrounder Andrew Symonds has been sold to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Hyderabad for an incredible $A1.47 million at the player auction in Mumbai.
Bollywood stars and business moguls reached ever deeper into their pockets as the world's best cricketers went under the hammer at the auction for the upcoming IPL Twenty20 competition.
About $A43.54 million was spent buying up the rights to 77 players, with consortiums of the eight bidding franchises huddled in groups, haggling over how much they could spend on their new toys.
The top prices were cornered by Indian and Australian players - ranging from Indian skipper MS Dhoni's $A1.63 million, $A1.47 million to Australian allrounder Andrew Symonds and $A1.03 million to Indian bowler Ishant Sharma and $A979,500 to Australia's Brett Lee.
The figures took some administrators by surprise.
"The market is determining the players' prices - it's nothing else but that. That's how a free market economy flows," said IS Bindra, IPL governing member and a former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India who was inside the auction room blocked off to the media.
"The process is really very exciting. I wish you could have seen it live," he said after the 'marquee players' were bought within minutes of bids opening.
"This is a milestone for Indian cricket."
So frenzied was the bidding, that it was only once the auction began to peter out that owners could reflect on some extraordinary distortions in prices.
How is it that Australian captain Ricky Ponting could only fetch $A435,350 - a tad over his reserve price - while his new Kolkata teammate and fringe Australian international David Hussey got $A734,600?
Who could explain how India great Anil Kumble went to Bangalore for $A544,000, only a touch more than compatriot all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, with only one international under his belt, at $A517,000?
Is India's Gautham Gambir really worth more than Australia's experienced big-hitter Adam Gilchrist?
"The bidding's been quite fierce," IPL chairman Lalit Modi said.
"Some (players) have gone surprisingly low and some have gone high. It's not for me to judge, it's up to the team owners."
He said cricketer's personalities as much as their skill could have warped the spending.
"It could be the quality of cricket, what they will add to the team. Maybe the owners are looking at the glamour they will bring, looking at endorsements."
One of Bollywood's biggest stars Shah Rukh Khan - part owner of the eastern Kolkata team - sat at an auction table near his wife Gauri and former India captain Sourav Ganguly who is listed as an "icon" or top-end player.
Another slice of glamour was provided by Bollywood's Preity Zinta, part owner of the northern Mohali team with Mumbai businessman Ness Wadia, who has interests in textiles, real estate and retail.
"We have Brett Lee, (Kumar) Sangakarra and (Mahela) Jayawardena," she said.
"I'm really excited. Wish us luck."

its a really strange concept,, some of the prices are all over the price. Maybe what ponting got has something to do with his recent form? and i am yet to see dhoni do anything special with the bat this summer... i mean he looks a good player but im yet to see anything great.

I guess the thing with the Sub continent players (especially the Indians) is that they are basically gods over there....
What i got out of that article was that people may have panicked and gone over the top at the beginning of the bidding.
Well done to Michael Clarke who pulled out - No suprises why i think, there is the next captain of the national team.

yeah exactly, the indian players are more marketable in india.
From my experience, most indian cricket fans don't like ponting (and someof the other aussie players) because they reckon he (they) is arrogant (probably fair, maybe its just because he is the leader of the most dominant cricket team) so a newly founded 20-20 team is not going to spend big bucks on someone that cannot be the face of their team.
Where as everyone reckons Symonds is a good bloke don't they? Thought Lee would have got more with his bollywood appeal.

Yeah i hear you bout Lee, although he got over 900k so he's doing alright
It's an interesting situation, on the flipside, you have Shane Bond who joind the "other" league (The ICL) which was setup before the IPL. Becuase it's not ICC sanctioned, he has basically kissed away his career with NZ, taking 1.2 million over 3 years instead of the stock standard 100k a year NZ deal.

Well done to Michael Clarke who pulled out - No suprises why i think, there is the next captain of the national team. not only that, if he doesnt get bid on now, in 3 years time when the contracts expire, he'll get a shitload more as the aussie captain (and good player) rather then what he'd get now.

We were just outplayed. Indians bowling was superb and they had a really good tour i think, they did pull off a test win and had some amazing seassions in the 5 day game - just could string 2 or 3 sesions together.
Hats off to them, we have a lot of work to do as far as planning the next phase of Australian cricket i believe.

This is harking back about a year or two, but I really miss this ad. How catchy is that timmy rogers song? Captures cricket and summer perfectly.

It's time to revive this thread after some Cricket talk in the "you make me happy" thread - sunks, i modified your title to read "Summer 08/09" . In a way, it's pretty odd we didn't use this for the test series against South Africa - What a series it was, hats off to the opposition, they played some amazing cricket and with series wins again us, India and England in the last year, they are on fire.
Really enjoyed the 20Twenty match - Warners knock was brilliant, we all know that, but something else i really enjoyed (Especially as a South Aussie) was Shaun Taits return to the international stage - hat first over was scary. The first ball rocked in at 152km, and for those that didn't see him dismiss AB De Villiers, one word - Ouch!
Right on the point of the hip - My god that would hurt.
A lot of people forget how good he is in the short form of the game, i might put some short highlights up.
Hmm....listen for the commentators laughing

Yeah i'm all for the tight games, but i want to win - I'm a competitive person hehe
Having said that, i'm not the kind of person to ridicule or spitt he dummy should we lose. I'm loving watching Albie Moerkel and De Villiers play, and am really impressed by Amla, although he should have had a coupe of hundreds this summer i think...just couldn't go on with it. Duminy also. They are a great side in both forms.

haha, i'm just enoying a tight game that doesnt always go australias way. i almost gave up watching in perth thinking it would be another predictable win by australia I'm liking some fersh blood in the aussie side aswell.. makes them slightly less unappealing

thing about the kiwis is you know if they get australia out for 150, they will be all out for under 100 I hope they win.. but i'm not overly confident
