Well i paid $661 for the lot, got a pretty good deal since retail was about $1,000 for both and the jb hi-fi shelf price was $950 for both. The mic is the same one i had last time back in 2001, before my old MD and mic got stolen at the Big Day Out 2002. It's not too bad, doesn't need a pre-amp, handles loud levels really well with not much popping or distortion and is pretty cheap. Only down side is the frequency range, it's only 100 - 15,000 hz But actually sounds better than what you would expect. I'm probably gonna save up for the big brother version of that mic, identical except bigger and better 50 - 18,000 hz, which is pretty damn close to CD frequency 20 - 20,000 hz But that's about $500, so i'll definately do my research first. Yeah the HiMD looks awesome so far, no problems using the old MD discs re-formatted and you still get nearly 3 hours of recording at HiSP mode on a 74 min MD, which is at better quality than old MD atrac. I was able to boot jebediah at the hi-fi last night, may have been recorded at too high volume, i haven't listened to it closely yet, but sounds better than average. i might try and put up some samples if i can.

how would you position the mic? would you just hold it?
have you tried transfering the hi-md to the computer yet? ive heard different things about the difficulty to do this

haven't tried the PC transfer yet, I read somewhere in the manual that some discs might only be allowed one USB transfer, so I want to experiment with some un-important recordings first, all i have are my own demos or boot masters at the moment.
Yeah so far all i've done is found a good spot for stereo sound, and held the mic around head height near my shoulder so it get's the same sound my ears would. but if i have access to a table or something that's high enough to get good treble I use that instead, like at Jebediah i was able to use the mixing desk.
Friday night at the espy i experimented with the mic hanging out of my jacket breast height pocket, and that sounded pretty good too, but i haven't listened to it properly yet.

Hey, I'll be going to Billy corgans solo show next week and im thinking of bootlegging it. ive never bootlegged before so i just wanna get som good pointers, First of all im only 15 so i dont go to that many gigs and dont have much money to be buying mds and all that. I have a Sony microcassette clear voice plus recorder and i also have an mp3 player, both have built in mics, so im just wondering your opinion on which one to use and also where to possition them, im sitting 7 rows from the front.
I also read that someone puts it on thop of their head then puts a beanie on then puts the hood from their jumper on, would this work well?
Let me know Thanks Rhys

You'll lose all the highend frequencies, that are hard to get recording bootlegs as it is!

I have an iaudio X5 which i got because it can handle lossless FLAC files. it has a line in record MAX bitrate of 320 in MP3... i wouldn't expect a great recording from it, however, it would be better then none.

Probably not. The fact its from Dick Smith should probably tell you that.
The frequency range is quite poor. And any mic. with a on/off switch, and built in cable = cheap and nasty.
But go with what you can afford of course.
