Yeah, I admit how I wrote the stats was kind of confusing and they've been taken the wrong way by people. I showed it to a few people, they got what I meant and agreed with it ... and liked it.
Its just frustrating writing something that for the "wider" community is interesting - sure the hardcore fans don't care, but im not just writing for them. I originally was going to just focus on the past tour, but then I thought I would be ripped apart for not looking back on all the era's ... so I can't win can I?
The casual fan will read it and be interested in it, I had a heap of people PM'ing me with a "thanks for a great article". So I know it pleased some people out there, pissed some off ... pretty much what I expected.
The crew at HU gave constructive critism, and thats all you can ask for really, I deal with that on a daily basis ... got a thick skin these days. I'd prefer to have that sort of discussion anyday rather than a simple "that sucks" type of reasoning.

The douche has a bit of an argument. Not much - but a bit. Theoretically the chance is 50/50 they either play it or they dont! ahaha
Just a question - when you did your calculations - (ie that BWBW is featured in 48% of the shows) is that counting ALL the shows, or the ones since BWBW was first played/written?

Yeah I can understand his argument, I did it for ALL shows ... looking back, not the best way to do it, but its the parameters I set the article by. It was taken by the basis I had written, that if you look at the total number of shows played in the bands entire career against the times played, thats the number. Sure hearing Bullet, Today, 1979 are higher if you think about it in 'real life' siutaiton, but this was based on a complete numbers look, taking the whole "popularity" factor of a song out of it. I know its not maybe the "correct" way of working it out, but they were the guidelines I set ... somewhat paying for it now The thing that annoyed me the most was the use of my photo ... that just makes it a bit "tabloid" in my opinion. I'm just sick of this bickering that happens, you have an issue with my article email me! contact me! don't post it on your "news" site ... how is that "news" to the greater community, I'll admit when I made a mistake and I'll wear it ... and Im doing that now.

Yeah - i got what you meant Sunks - but whats the point of having a rant over a technicality! Friggin douche.
I was kinda surprised to see your pic up there too. But I guess that be the price of 'fame'. Im sure its kinda what proper clebs put up with when they go down to the shops.
If anything - im sure its just pure jealousy. I didnt see them coming up with the actual statistics anyway - so they can go fcuk themselves!

Simon knows how i feel. The article was great, something different and interesting to think about!
Could you ever imagine ozphoria posting (on their front page none the less) something bagging out one of the sp.com articles? Ugh, pisses me off.

Thats the difference between the 2 sites, we are (and always will be) a news site, they are a blog posting their opinions along with new... I just frustrated with sites that don't approach the person they want to correct. Sure post opinions on the band, the decisions and discuss that ... yes I guess I "fall" into that category now ... but do people really want to read about a guy that works for SP or the band itself.
If I have a problem with something somebody posts I will PM them directly or email them ... as you would in real life. Bloggers sometimes hide behind their posts.

in Simon's (the other Simon not me) second interview with Kristen Burns she mentioned Ozphoria ... Simon: Looking at your time on the road, have you been able to interact much with Pumpkins fans during shows? Kristin: All the time! When I was on tour, sometimes fans would come up and start talking to me after or before a show, because they recognize me from my work with the Pumpkins. It's nice to see how wonderful and supportive the fans are of the band; I think that's because the band is always trying new things, and not just playing the hits all the time. I started interviewing the Pumpkins fans a little in Asheville, NC at the residency shows, and continued taping them in Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, and Mexico. The fans are great, especially the Ozphoria bunch. They were very welcoming, and hooked me up with lot of presents and Oz music. Full interview here: www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_7103

I just can't fathom how it's appropriate to post 4 entries about how Billy coined the genre title 'American Gothic' in his blog post during the week...
GET OVER IT. MOVE ON.
