I have an epiphone SG special and have only really started to get serious about guitar. I can play zero and Boys fear to tread. Any suggestions as to how i can gain a sound that is anything like that of the album at the moment i am running a cheap no name amp with gain on about 7. Any suggestions as to how i can mimic it closer also any suggestions for other sp songs to play. I am a long time fan and have only really started branching out.

Welcome to the boards!
Other than spending a shite load of money on the same gear Billy used on MCIS, you're best bet is to buy a multi-effects pedal such as a Vox Valvtronix, Boss GT-8 or Korg AX1500G. These are floor units that have a number of different distortion sounds, amp models and other effects like delay, chorus, phasers, wah etc.
Can get them for around $400-$500 bucks as an average I would reckon. Then run your Guitar > Multi Effects Board > Clean Amp Channel, and you should be able to get a pretty decent tone/sound. Served me well for years!
The fact that you've got an Epi SG which has humbuckers is a good thing because you will be able to get a much punchier and clearer distorted sound with the effects board, than compared with single coils.
Other songs to play: Thru the Eyes of Ruby (really fun and not that hard); Bullet; Jellybelly (which is in Drop D tuning and pretty easy as well). Mayonaise; Soma.
Good luck man! :-)

if you want to get into pumpkinsy territory the easiest way is a decent tube amplifier. until you can do that, the easiest and cheapest way is your standard big muff distortion sound (usa over the russian), its yr standard 90s dino jr, sonic youth, mudhoney, pumpkins distortion sound, its a common circuit, which many people have modified for slight adjustments.
next, billy and james regularly play in octaves of each other, someone high, someone low, for a huge sound, along with messing around with diff octave pedals and pitch shifting.. you can accomplish this yourself somewhat with heaps of diff octave pedals, which are reasonably cheap, like the ehx microsynth, but really anything with a bit of fuzz/distortion after it will get those kinda octave fuzz sounds, digitech whammys, boss pitch shifters etc. from there -- delay, a simple delay pedal will phatten up your sound, theres no limit to what you can do with delay(s) pretty much.
