Thanks guys. I will post up my question and what I came up with as the answer and see if anyone can verify. But I will have to type and paste because it has Indicies which I can't type from here (especially not from my hiptop right now).
This assignment covers indicies and fractions and we are about to get into linear equations.
I haven't done any maths since year 12, that is 11 years ago (I know...OMG!) and we are kinds skimming over so much that is "assumed" knowledge - but we all know what assuming does.
If we put our collective minds together I may even pass! Haha.

what Todd said goes for me too, minus the macroeconomic thing, haha

I haven't done Math since Year 10... I'm a creative brain not a numbers brain! Ohh Kez. Who knew being a computer nerd could be so mathematically demanding?

Yeah so do I... but EPIC FAIL. I think that's why everyone's always asking me questions at work... they figure I'm some short-sighted genius.

Ohh Kez. Who knew being a computer nerd could be so mathematically demanding? ugh, tell me about it! What's up with that!? Ok. Im scanning it in now with the working i did for it. I dont need or want people to tell me the answers (i will actually have to know how to do this crap so i had better learn) but if anyone knows if i am correct or wrong that would kinda help haha, especially seeing as my glasses arent really paying off Ok, so with Part 3b I had to actually figure out the answer, and with part 3c be I had to reduce the equation to the simplest way to write it - With both i had to show all of my working out (that is why each line ends with an = sign)

ok 3b is right as far as I can see... With 3c, aren't there some factorisation rules that would make that alot easier? I can't remember them without a textbook.

I thought i followed all of maths dumb rules, but who knows. Everyone else in the class seems to know what is going on, and there i am nodding away like i actually understand the gibberish coming from the teachers mouth as she skims over rules and laws and even adding fucking fractions haha. Dude, i didnt listen to my maths teacher in year 12 and even if i had that was over 10 years ago - since then its been calculators all the way for me seriously though, i thought i followed all the rules about adding indicies when they are being multiplied and subtracting them when they are being divided, if there are more rules than those i dont know what they are yet. Dont forget that i had to show all of my working for that question so there are a lot of steps in there that probably could have been left out, if you know what i mean.

Ok so assignment 2 is due on friday and i cannot figure this question out - im not asking for answers directly, just any tips, hints or points in the correct direction.
Four family members Tom, Melanie, Bob and Irene have a collective age of 150 years. Melanie is one third Tom's age and Bob's age is twice Melanie's. Irene's age is as much as Tom's and Melanie's put together. What is each persons age? Solve by convenient algebraic method. How would you check your solution?
-- ok so what i can figure out so far is --
T = Tom M = Melanie B = Bob I = Irene
M = T/3 B = 2M I = M + T B + T + M + I = 150
but i have no idea where the hell to go from there.

haha - this should be kinda easy - think of it all in terms of Melanie's...
T=Mx3 B=Mx2 I=Mx4 M=M
T+B+I+M=150

thanks for the help todd - what i had to do in the end was -
T = 3M B = 2M I = M + T
T +B + I + M = 150
so that means that
3M + 2M + M + T + M = 150 or 3M + 2M + M + 3M + M = 150 which means that 10M = 150 M = 15 and the rest falls into place.
Look how f**king easy it is when its explained, why can i never figure it out myself ? haha
