Following in the footsteps of that hit General Discussion thread 'What movie have you seen lately?' comes this summers hit time waster 'What TV show have you watched lately?'
We just ploughed through Season 1 of Veronica Mars. It took me about 4 or 5 episodes to really get into it, but Jessy and I were well and truly hooked.
Also just about to start on the next seasons of Dexter and Californication.
Other shows you all need to watch RIGHT NOW!!!
Berry & Fulcher's Snuffbox (only $19.99 at JB atm!) Garth Merenghi's Dark Place ( has to be a download though i THINK a dvd release is on its way soon)

so i guess this is more about what new shows we're getting into, right? as opposed to a favourite tv shows thread (which i've been meaning to start a thread about anyway) my latest obsessions are Intervention & Celebrity Rehab on Bio. both can be a bit slow at times, but they're still quite interesting. other than that i tend to rotate between watching every series of my top 3 favourite shows - 90210, Dawson's Creek and The OC, haha. i'm currently on 90210 and watch about 4 episodes every weekend. and ER is back on channel 9 during the day, so i've been taping that and watching it when i get home from work. and i love Gossip Girl, it's so fucking addictive! /crazy

Grant and I are giving Fringe a go. Didn't think much of the pilot, but we're going to give it two more episodes to see if it improves.
Other shows that we're glad are back: Prison Break, Dexter, Californication, The Office (end of the month) as well as Survivor and Amazing Race.
Looking forward to the new Merrick and Rosso show on Comedy starting next month.
Also I'm addicted to home renovation/real estate shows on Foxtel, like Relocation Relocation, Location Location Location, Grand Designs, Selling Houses Australia, This Old House, Property Ladder, The Truth about Property... but I'm also into a few trashy shows like Girls of the Playboy Mansion. Grant hates that show and mocks me every time I watch it, but I just can't stop. It's so trashy. Also, boobs!

^ swap renovation for fashion and you basically get my reality tv obsession - Project Runway, Next Top Model, The Cut (RIP) etc.
so season two of Californication is starting again soon? i never got around to watching season one, maybe i'll get it on dvd..
i can't wait for Merrick & Rosso either!

Dude! It's like, season 2 good, which in my opinion kicked seasons 1's ass. I liked 3 as well, but the writers' strike really had a huge affect on the story. Although I am pissed that Dr Sara is back. I liked her better when her head was in a box.

yeah yeah i meant tv shows that you get hooked on, or shows that you think others here would like but might not know about. Prison break i have never watched. But Vic my mum loves all those reno shows too and i got hooked so easy too! Grand Designs was on ABC i think it was the other week that we saw, the house they built was amazing! Well we just watched the starts of seasons for Dex and Cali - wow, straight back into some great plots! So glad that finally a few really good shows are getting more than 1 season runs! Vic, have you seen the trailer for the new Joss Whedon show? Looks a little like Dark Angel, i cant remember what its called - will post the trailer here later (we are about to go and see either Tropic Thunder or that new Shia LaBouf film) Also, we didnt realise that Fringe started already missed that, will have to catch up - dont know if it sounds like my thing, but how can you not even try when its JJ - he has never let us down so far.

Yeah the new Joss show is called Dollhouse, and it does seem a bit Alias-y. I'm a bit wary, he's already re-written/shot the first and fourth episodes and Fox have a history of canning his shows before they have a chance to find an audience. But it's Joss, so you know it's going to be good. Also, nice to see creepy Leoben from BSG in S2 of Californication... So funny.

We started watching Fringe ... Im liking it, but the editing is really annoying me. They cut from scene to scene and it sometimes feels all over the place ... the idea, the story etc is solid ... just the production I guess. Im giving it a chance, but it just seems really over hyped. Maybe I was expecting another Lost type show from JJ ... you know something that feels like a movie every episode. This just feels like a TV show similar to Law and Order ... nothing "grand" about it. Also been getting into Supernatural, we caught episodes every now and then on TV ... but we picked up Season 1 on DVD for like $20 few months back ... so been watching that every night. Really enjoying it ... we have ordered Season 2 now, they are on special at EzyDVD Also started watching Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles ... only watched 1 episode ... seems ok. I'll see how it goes. Also started watching Entourage, we watched the first episode of Season 1 and ... it sucked. Should we give it more of a chance ... like everybody always says how funny it is, but I just can't see how ... is it just the case that the first few episodes sucked balls? Anybody else seen it? In other news ... New Office starts this week! ... Vic ... bet you're happy to finally have the Brunky excited about new Office! ... Angela and Dwight - OH MY!

I think i have a few episodes of the US Office around the place somewhere, and i really like Steve Carrell so I should give it ago. I think jessy said that someone at her work is going to lend us season 1 so we will be able to see what we think. Is it a totally different plot to the UK?

@ Kerrie - the US Office is awesome. I used to be all about the UK one, but the US one kicks it's ass. I'm not a huge Steve Carrell fan, but I love Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski and Rainn Wilson. The characters are a lot warmer and well rounded in the US version, and the background characters add a lot of laughs.
The first ep in Season 1 is a direct copy of the UK pilot, and it does.not.work. It's horrible. Season 1 itself is not great, but it's short. It's not really until Season 2 that it really comes together.
Watched the second episode of Fringe last night. I wish that show was better. Besides John Noble's delivery of the occasional funny line, the rest is just... average.

ahh i see, good to know that it managed to hold on and find its own ground even if it wasnt really working at the start. Not very often that a show gets that chance anymore!

Yeah - ive seen all 4 US Office seasons - i love them! Theyre not better or worse than UK - theyre just different. US finds its own voice by season 2
Breaking Bad - Malcom in the Middle's dad is a highschool chemistry teacher, finds out he has 6 mths to live (lung cancer) and becomes a Meth cook so his family will have some money when he goes. Its BRILLIANT! Funny and poignant - Bryan Cranston won the emmy for it today too.
Greek - its a FOX 8 show. Its a uni/frat series. Quite clever pretty darn funny too. Hot chicks, hunky guys, dorky skinny boys - everything you need!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet but...
HEROES SEASON 3.
I think we may have to rewatch season 2 because it's been a long time between eps... I like to think of it as season 2.1 Season 2 was kinda spoiled because of Tim Kring trying to rush the storyline before the writer's strike and this one seems to be trying to pick up from halfway through S2 and continue with the storyline before Kring turned it to crap.

House s4 and greys anatomy s4 also suffered because of the writers strike. I'm glad they've sorted that out now

I've heard good things about Greek. Might watch an ep, see how it goes.
As for Heroes, I gave up towards the end of season 1. From what I've heard, I'm not really missing much.

we gave up on heroes when we missed a few eps when it was airing on 7 during season 1. But we got season 1 and 2 from a friend and while it isnt something that had me totally hooked, it was interesting enough, so I will give season 3 a watch to see what happens.
btw there was just an advert on TV for the US version of Kath & Kim starting soon. Now i dont expect a lot - hopefully they change it in the same way they did with the office by the sounds of it - but they do have Selma Blair as Kim and Molly Shannon and Kath so I think it will be worth a watch as I am a Molly Shannon fan.

I like how they arent even playing any of the show on the ads, just playing bits of the oz version with shots of the american flag

i just watched a few little previews on the US website. seems pretty different, has such a whole different feel to the humour. And dont you love the way the USA cant ever cast someone who isnt good looking - even for people who are meant to look 'average' they have to cast someone beautiful haha. doesnt really have the same effect.

i watched a little bit of the US one on youtube a few weeks back, i'm not a fan of the original anyway but i thought it looked pretty awful. apparently it did hideously bad with the test audiences. i like Selma Blair though, she's funny.
