How do you fellow ozphorians feel about Hipsters United?
Now, I assume most are aware of the insidious comments they've made related to certain pumpkins staff writers we know, so I don't think there's much point in talking about that.
The weekly H.U podcast is quite interesting, if at times misinformed.
Since there is no forum on their site this is their only way of discussing the pumpkins and I found the concept interesting.
Has anyone here listened to any of the podcasts?
I've found that it's far easier heading there for news, rather than netphoria etc, or thepumpkins.net etc etc etc -
And the weekly podcasts have covered some interesting topics... So?

HU has ripped into Ozphoria, ripped into me personally, ripped into all the PMM writers (apart from Jill from HU) and the whole PMM selection, bagged out many other sites numerous times who have been around for a lot longer than they have ... and sometimes come across as "holier than thou" ... they frustrate me sometimes. That being said they do a good job of reporting news, although sometimes there are many news items that aren't really news items ... like instant message conversations between various bloggers on there - who cares? Report the news, thats what people want. When the site started I was happy another site was out there reporting news and keeping their site advert free and doing it for all the right reasons - spreading the word of the Pumpkins. They've kept that up and now have a large readership, which is great to have in the world of Pumpkinland. I listen to their podcasts, I don't always agree with the views on the topics discussed though but I guess thats what the site is about - 'their' opinions . With the podcats I was really excited they have taken the effort and time to do such a thing on a weekly basis. Although ... the inside jokes and US focus does turn me off sometimes ... like when SP toured and those few issues happened (SP vs Presets etc) here they relied on reporting from Pitchfork reports ... rather than contacting some Australian fans. I know thats what we try to do when news breaks outside of our territory, we get in touch with people that were there, people that know the story ... not some other blog thats going on mixed reports. I still listen when I can, but between being here and reading the various news places online the news is always easy to get ... but thats me. Still always good to have another SP site out there. But if they raise a good topic, would be good to discuss it here ... ... so thats my honest opinion, Im sure it will end up on there as a blog post

I was hoping that my post wouldn't get into ozphoria's relationship with H.U - having said that, I realise now that it wasn't thoughtful of me to bring it up the way I did, leaving it up to open discussion the way I did seems vague now and I'm sorry if it offended anyone.
My main reasoning for bringing it up here was the podcast element, I've recently wondered what it would take to set something like that up at ozphoria - I was trying to see if there was any interest with this community for something like that, that is to say, whether it is in the interests of the admins. and the members.
Scouring through the usual message boards I continually find the same posts about the band that are not offering any new perspectives on the band and their music, history, resonance etc, however, out of all the communitys that I have had the pleasure to haunt I feel that ozphoria have been the most honest and caring about the band (IMO), and that's why I stay here.
So, that's a nod to the ozphorians and an open query to those that may have an opinion on the possibility of an ozphorian podcast.
Oh, I suppose the 'podcast' element is not what I think is important, it's just the directed weekly discussions that H.U offer that I think we as a community may be able to do better. hmmm??

Sorry about my rant, I had just read another "we hate this" post on there and that lead to my rant ... Im all good now.
I know what you mean about the podcast, and the whole weekly wrap up idea and it was an idea Bree and I had a few years ago about doing a podcast. But no time, no resources and no interest ... and no news to talk about too. 2005-2006 were pretty quiet week to week.
The forum is pretty quiet most of the time, we have a lot of lurkers, but we don't get busy until the band are touring here ... we looked at something like a weekly "Round table discussion" type thing. Get the 3 big news items and the end of each week and let everybody analyze and discuss them. Something to promote discussion and weekly interest.
But then we thought that everything is discussed in threads as the news comes along ... so that idea was canned. Would be good to maybe even do an annual podcast or something like that ... talk about key things from the year.
Like for me, and I guess this is off topic, but Im so excited and happy with everything the Smashing Pumpkins have happening at the moment. New song, new DVD, 20th Ann tour, TV performances, livesmashingpumpkins.com ... all the things Billy mentioned they would do and they are doing them. So many people said they were all talk ... now they are all loving everything the band have planned. I wish people would have some trust again for the band.
Anyway thats me ... I love the suggestions, we always want to see the community flourish and grow too ... I hope this might spark the interest of other people lurking too - come out come out.

hahah - that's cool sunky. I guess you're right about the podcast issue, considering the issues do come up in the forums - I guess we'll just keep plugging along with the new threads and try to keep the discussions alive! oh, and by the way www.hipstersunited.com that's what we're talking about, if that answers the "who" ok ok ok ok ?

thanks for the link , but I'm pretty sure that Todd was being sarcastic. We have all discussed our thoughts on HU before after some comments were made by them in response to simon/ozphoria, so most people who visit Ozphoria now know who they are. I am curious to know if the giant pumpkin article that warranted space on their page made it into this weeks podcast

...thats what they pay me for And by they I dont mean HU. You know what though. Reading the HU page makes me realise that I never really visit the main Ozphoria site, I access the forum with a direct link, and only usually visit when simon or bree post a link to some extra information that they have posted. Perhaps there could be a link from the forum to this weeks main stories (i.e. when you make those 'blog' type posts). Does anyone understand me, i just woke up from falling asleep on the couch watching Veronica Mars, cut me some slack.

Well there is the news fader thing at the top that links back to the news items ... I'll see what I can put together and see what freedom we've got with this proboards system, a listed area would be better I think ...
The more traffic to the home page the better ... we get steady traffic to the home page still. Would you guys like a discussion area, to discuss the "news of the week" ? ...

I think that could be really good, it's the first page newcomers see aswell so along with the great design and all of the links, news/info etc - a weekly news discussion part would be really interesting. Is that what you meant though?
