How can Billy claim to have written the Rose March during the residency shows, when he also claims to have received positive feedback about the song from Pete Townshend when he performed the song in 2006?
What am I missing here?

Although he played a working version of the Rose March when he played with Townshend, during the residency shows he obviously reworked the song and in essence produced the version we hear on American Gothic during this period.

yeah thats how I saw it too, from reports I've read he added a lot to the song during the residencies and then even more when it came to recording it for American Gothic.
At that show he also played Again, Again, Again ... I often wonder how much that changed from 2006 to 2008 ... I guess this is another Let Me Give the World to You - Adore v Machina versions.
As for Corgan saying he wrote it during the residencies, I guess he is saying he wrote the version how it ended up being released.

It will be interesting to see how it is presented in the dvd... as a new song, or a reworking of an existing idea...

Ok, now that we have all seen If All Goes Wrong... we can discuss this with a little more insight!
From my impression, Billy implies that the song was written from scratch during the residencies.
Does anyone have a recording of the original rose march from the townshend gig?

No recording that I know of, there are only a few youtube clips from the event. but they are of other songs. But Im getting that impression too, its basically saying this song was written during that time and it is a bit confusing huh? When we know thats kinda bullshit.
I might see what information I can get, maybe an article on the evolution of The Rose March. Do you think its fair to say this has been the "lead" song from the residency sessions, as it ended up on American Gothic too.

I think its fair to say that.
I just went to spfc.org, and they have taken the Rose March off the set for the gig in 2006, although it says the setlist is incomplete and probably out of order... It was definately listed when I began this thread..
And I can't find the blog billy posted about Pete Townshend and the Rose March either...!

Nah it was there, I've got that information down too. I think I might have that blog somewhere, I started collecting stuff on this for when I wrote the Pete Townshend article for Sp.com.
We'll get to bottom of it!

Why don't you just call billy? Surely you have his number now that you're on his staff?

ha ... urmm nope. I can only contact him on the 3rd moon cycle of each month via certain bird calls while making smoke signals ... and even when it reaches him, answers are hard to get ... especially when they are on the road.

After hearing alot of those unreleased songs on IAGW i can really see where American Gothic came from. I wish they were all on there and it was full lenght!

Found something funny.
In the credits for If All Goes Wrong, the song Peace + Love is credited as
Peace + Love + Shit by billy corgan etc etc..
