I hope the USA can improve the perception that everyone has on it now they don't having a gun toting idiot for a president

It's a great result for Americans, as well as the world, well done to him. If he can come through on what he plans to deliver, the world will be in much better shape.
I think this may hurt our own trade and exporting departments somewhat, but the good potentially outweights the bad.
I don't want to sound like i'm playing devils advocate (perhaps i am?), but coming in now, with the state of their country and the world in general, it's a mammoth challenge. I'm very keen to see how his first 6 months shape up. Change is on the cards, lets hope it all works out.

I was reading the paper, and one republican fan said "It's good that Obama got elected now, because we'll know that a black person wont become president of America ever again" I could not believe my fucking eyes...
Not being black, I can only imagine how much they have been persecuted in that county. I think for Obama to win the election is a great sign for America, in a time that could look pretty bleak (as steve pointed it).
Maybe one day the same thing could happen in this country.

I was reading the paper, and one republican fan said "It's good that Obama got elected now, because we'll know that a black person wont become president of America ever again" I could not believe my fucking eyes... That’s a concern that I have, and feel for Obama. Not only will he be under the spot light of America because of their screw economy, global warming, wars around the world etc ... but also because of the colour of his skin. I can just see news stations like Fox being extremely critical on his every move and decision. It’s going to take more work to win over the people that didn't vote for him, because it goes beyond political views it is based on racial hate. And its comments like that Foxy that those people will always come back to, and hopefully he shines as a great president/leader of our generation and not just always been seen as 'a black president', he is more than that ... and seriously his speech was amazing. Im stoked with the out come, I think this is a great thing for the world … and finally for Americans to take interest in their voting system … its about fucking time! Its happened, now lets move on together ... exciting times are ahead.

Im so pissed Obama won.
It wouldve been so much more funnier if McCain won. SNL would be set for the next 4 years. Chris Rock wouldnt have to change his routine. Americans wouldve once again proven themselves to be the dumbest nation on earth.
Has anyone ever heard Joe Biden speak!?!? How cruisy has his job been? He has done nothing now all of a sudden he is Vice Prez.
PS - nothing is gonna change. Nothing ever does.

It was pretty full on watching his speech and seeing civil rights activists like Jesse Jackson in the crowd completely breaking down, for them this is the reality they have been fighting for their whole lives. I cant even comprehend what the struggle must have been like.
That said, while its an obvious good sign for america that they are able to do something like that, Obama regardless of race/gender all the other bullshit that was being thrown about in the buildup to this, is the best candidate i can think of, as I made mention to in the other thread Robert Kennedy is the only other, with such idealism and truly, obvious clarity of vision of what is needed to be done to move in the right direction. Obviously once he's in power his idealism will be curbed by the realities of trying to juggle various interests, backroom agendas etc, but at least he will always be pushing for what he believes and hes starting from a pretty strong place as far as im concerned. The first term, probably most of it will be damage control, trying to minimise the damage of whats happening already, suring up allies etc, [as steve said wont be that good for us a)because theyll be trying to compete with china who we are heavily invested with and a) on an allied front its pretty clear that kevin rudd was less than warm towards Obama during the primary race and seems more concerned with building other bridges]. Even though most of his energy will be taken up with stabilising the economy i think he'll still make a lot of progress though, someone like him realises that the environment and economy are inextricably linked and without pumping money into new energy, ending dependance on oil (and making sure the world doesnt go bye bye) then the economy is just going to get worse. America shold be thanking their stars for his universal health care policies and plans to redistribute wealth to generate growth too hahah i was listening to a John McCain speech about a week ago where he was all like "Obama wants to take YOUR money, and give it to someone else!! Thats not right" Sure, how many people in those town halls you're speaking at earn over 250,000 a year?? not many. So glad America pulled thru haha

Josh, I take it from your comments that you're not at all interested in politics or what this could mean for not only America, but the world?
This is something we'll remember for decades to come. The President that inspired so many countless thousands... hell, millions across the world even before he was officially the President Elect. I really hope he continues to do so - America as well as the world needs someone like that to stand up and inspire people to be greater than the person they are today - to aspire to become what they'd only dared to dream.

What this victory represents to me is the idea of hope and re-birth. The world around us is changing. The changes we are seeing have come from a slow period of self-destruction. A new history is constantly being born and all the mistakes of the past are birthing us new canvas’ on which we can paint a new future, a better future, one that allows our hopes and dreams to become a reality. The sky may have fallen, and our faith may have been tested, but it is our beliefs and strong will that create the new landscape from the mess. Change does not adhere to the limitations of time. Change does not judge its entry point by the mechanics of a clock. Change does not arrive at high speed. Change is not built within the scale of a day, week, month or year. Change arrives when people take a knife to their fears and educate their minds. Change arrives when people take time to know their enemies. Change arrives when people love. It’s not about having belief in one almighty god, it’s about having belief that it’s all going to work out and to also be a disciple of patience. It’s about getting mad, but not even. It’s about understanding that what you build can be destroyed in a day, but the idea is to keep building anyway. Each person has a responsibility to change and to take a piece of the fallen sky and create a new landscape.
Regardless of my poetic wank, this is how I feel.
This victory has instilled my hope once again in the power of people.

My brother and his g/f were lucky enough to be able to go to his acceptance speech. They said it was amazing. To say you were there at something so historic would be great.
