Yeah good this is finally live, I got just the MP3's of the show and it came to $23 ... ouch! ... Im only going to grab a few of the shows, I was originally thinking about getting every single show, but yeah ... at this stage, not so much. Also looking forward to getting shows where the crowd is into it, not ones where the crowd is pissed off and shouting stuff at the band. But awesome to have a clear version of As Rome Burns, A Song for a Son etc

pearl jam encouraged their fans to trade the officially released live bootlegs, i'm guessing there is no such directive from the pumpkins?

We (the PMM crew) are looking at getting these and other questions answered. So sit tight.
But I guess, considering the band have always allowed people to record and share their shows online (or offline) then I doubt they would object to us sharing these recordings around.

yeah I'm going to wait til the tour is over and try to determine which shows are best and get one of each kind. So Cleveland, one White Cross, Black Sunshine and one mix... Definately gonna get the cd format.

I would think along the same lines as sunks. They will be making some money off these official releases but I wouldn't have expected them to think they wouldn't be traded, otherwise they would have proctected the audio, surely?
I just think that livesp.com is a way for them to allow those who want superior recorings to do the right thing and be rewarded, but its only another way to get some cash for a band that now is using all its own funds. I don't mean getting cash in a bad way either - its things like these that can help fund (bloody) blu-ray and stuff you are all talking about elsewhere.
But if we weren't allowed to trade them, that would have been stipulated by now I would have thought.

pearl jam encouraged their fans to trade the officially released live bootlegs, i'm guessing there is no such directive from the pumpkins? as far as i know, pj didnt promote trading of the shows until you werent able to buy them officially anymore. So while you could download still, PJ were against it. and when you cant buy any more, you can trade freely on their forums etc. it would be stupid from the bands point of view to record them (which would cost them money) but then say just get the first dude to pay and everyone else grab them off him..

if thats what they need to charge to cover costs, then thats what we have to deal with.
a service like this is something i've dreamed of, but the expense of it will restrict me to only purchasing a select few.

true, my 'true' dream is something more along the same lines!
still, despite the cost, i think this is a very exciting thing for the pumpkins to be doing. i'm interested to see how it all pans out over coming tours.

I'm not sure if I would get any particular one except for a show that I attended. There's something really fantastic about having a recording of a show that you attended sitting on the shelf. Relive the moment at any time!

the FAQ says this....
Can I make copies of the songs I buy at LiveSmashingPumpkins.com? You may only copy the files you download onto CDs or other devices for personal use. Copies are strictly for your own use and you may not make additional copies for other people. Making copies of LiveSmashingPumpkins.com shows for others violates the band's taping policy as well as federal and state copyright law. LiveSmashingPumpkins.com relies on an honor system, and we ask that you do not abuse the unrestricted nature of these files. If you would like to see this type of delivery flourish, please don't abuse the system.

whilst obviously cheaper than a studio release, they are probably aiming at selling far fewer units, so there is less to recoup the costs.
i buy a lot of cds and vinyl, but i really do not like purchasing music in mp3 format. getting something tangible alongside the audio makes a big difference to me (this is why i have multiple issues of the same albums/singles, as i'm sure many of you do). not getting this, and having to pay a premium price is making this very unnappealing. the cd option is a very hard one to justify because each show costs significantly more than any studio album in a store. argh!
that being said, things cost what they cost and if this is the only way the band can do it then its far better than nothing!
anyone ordered a cd yet? is there postage added?
also, they put up a new option of paying ~$655AUD and you can get all the cds in a package. ow.

You might have noticed this week the addition of a cool new little widget on smashingpumpkins.com (the grey box floating on the right hand side of your screen). This widget links directly to a new music alternative the band is offering to their fans: to purchase live recordings of any show on their current 20th anniversary tour in various formats. With the Pumpkins playing 2 and a half hours every night, that's a lot of available music, especially for fans who have been waiting for an official live release, especially since 1994/2002's Earphoria, a few recent b-sides, and the 4 bonus tracks that came with a certain digital release of American Gothic were, so far, the only official live releases available. Listen to "G.L.O.W." from November 3rd, 2008 at Massey Hall in Toronto (livesp.com recording): Of course, with this new service come a lot of questions regarding what fans can expect, as well as the impact it will have on the existing taping community, one which the Pumpkins have traditionally made a lot of room for. So how exactly will the availability of high quality recordings affect the recording community, and will the Pumpkins stop the open source distribution of recordings? According to Billy, the open source policy is the same: "anyone is welcome to tape." While this is good news for those simply looking for a good, free recording of a show, a quick listen of the audio samples that have already been made available on livesmashingpumpkins.com suggests that the quality of what is being offered goes far beyond your typical audience recording. Indeed, every night after each show, hard drives of the hi-resolution multi-track recordings are sent to the band's engineer who then mixes and edits the shows. The only edits involved are splitting the show into individual songs - there are no other edits made to the recordings. That means fans have access to high-quality, complete, unedited shows in mp3, flac ("flac"?), and CD. Listen to Jimmy do his thing as the Pumpkins cover "Wipe Out" in Columbus, OH (livesp.com recording): It is precisely about this physical CD that a lot of you have been asking questions. So what can you expect when you order one of them? The packaging that comes with the physical CD is tri-fold (in other words, it holds up to three CDs) chipboard (and for your environmental conscience, each is produced on demand and is made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard). The packaging is branded with customized Smashing Pumpkins artwork, and each release includes the track listing, show date and whatever other information pertains to the release. The artwork is similar to the digital art available, though formatted for the tri-fold packaging. While the CDs are not glass mastered, they are of the same quality. According to a rep from livesmashingpumpkins.com, Kufala, the company handling the CDs, "utilizes state of the art robotic CD burning technology that replicates an identical copy to the original master. […] Kufala replicates at a slow speed to ensure the highest quality replication possible, [and utilizes] Tayio Yuden 80 minute professional grade blanks. […] On-disc art is thermally printed onto the CD." Kufala similarly handles the live recordings of Pearl Jam, Phish, Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, Crowded House and many other artists. While the Pumpkins are still in the process of assessing the length of availability of each show, livesmashingpumpkins.com assures us that the downloads will be available for "at least the next year". And, while the focus remains on the current tour for now, there is talk of also offering older shows through this medium. But again, the focus right now is on the 20th anniversary tour. Speaking of which, if you purchased a two-night ticket bundle, you will want to eventually redeem the livesmashingpumpkins.com download code you received for the oh-so-mysterious bonus EP... At the moment, livesmashingpumpkins.com offers fans the option of purchasing single tracks, individual shows, discounted two-show bundles, as well as a discounted "entire tour bundle" (that's 23 shows...or, close to 58 hours of music!). Listen to new song "Owata" from Cleveland, OH on November 1st, 2008 (livesp.com recording): - www.smashingpumpkins.comdo we have any news on what this mysterious EP is ?

Has anyone purchased any of these? If so can you give us a speel on what you think of them? Be interesting to see what the favoured concerts are, in terms of setlists, presentation etc.
