was it in the interview with Matt Pinfield that billy talked about how people didn't get machina? that blew me away. i mean it took me a while to warm up to it, but its one of my favourites. i even bought the vinyl cause i liked it so much, although the artwork had a bit to do with that too. When i heard the band was reforming i was expecting them to go further down the machina route.. anyway it just surprises me that people don't like that album much.

Yeah, I think Billy sometimes underestimates how much that record means to a lot of people and also how many new fans it brought to the community. Machina is still my favorite era of the band, recording and live. Anyway I did an overview of these 2 interviews on SP.com: www.smashingpumpkins.com/pages/articles/interviews-radio-transmissionLet me know what you think

I agree, adore and machina for me were the albums which made me feel like the Smashing Pumpkins were more than a 'rock' band; I feel like those records really informed the rest of my life, whereas Gish, Pisces, Siamese Dream and MCIS made sense of my 'growing years' the latter albums seem to speak of something greater.

Yeah, I know this is off topic ish, but Machina was/is a mature sound and the sound of a mature song writer, I beleive that Zeitgeist was a confused Billy trying to get back into that style of writing ... but after 7 years away from that music it was difficult for him.
I think the music they are making now is more where the band would have gone if the "break up" didn't happen in 2000.
