For those that didn't know, Triple J is doing the 100 of all time... Would be awesome to get the pumpkins in this...
I'll be voting for 1979 I reckon

I shall also be voting for 1979, definitely the song that best reflects their magic and can be widely appreciated by anyone who hears it.
Ive started plotting the rest of my votes, i had no idea what i was getting myself into when i started, its so complicated. so many factors to consider :s

Great idea guys ... I'll be voting for 1979 and BWBW ... both important to me.
So I'll start spreading the word and we'll ask folks to vote for 1979? To make sure SP end up somewhere near the top?
I've got a rough idea for my 'all time favourite songs' already ... there is a playlist I keep on my phone call my sunky 11 ... it only has 8 songs in it at the moment, the 8 songs I will always love at the moment ... there is a space for another 3.
I hope this voting doesn't turn into the like the last time JJJ did the Hottest 100 of all time and people were voting for songs that were just popular at that time. Like Hunter's - Throw Your Arms Around Me, was only big because of Paul McDermott on GNW ... aaanyway, who thinks Nirvana will come in at #1 again? ... or after 18 years has the teen spirit left the building?

Yeah thats what I'm afraid of... if it's dominated by KOL/Hilltop Hoods etc...

i thought overall the 1998 one was pretty good. but this time it'll be way different as triple j has had a massive change in style over the last decade.

Love will tear us apart for number one?
Perhaps we should have a predictions/votes thread
To stay on topic - I don't really listen to JJJ, but of course i'll be in for voting for 1979, and any other SP tunes to fill in the gaps.

How is everybody going with putting their lists together? I've started with a short list. I saw Richard put up his own top 100 ... now that would be a hard to do.

And "Today"...

Post by sunky on Jul 10, 2009 5:22:14 GMT 7
Today came in at 78, BWBW at 51.
Does 1979 stand a chance? I was looking back at the list from 98. 1979 came in at 71, while Today and BWBW appear a lot higher (40 and 31) ... sooooooo .... yeah, could BWBW have been the last appearance from the Pumpkins?

You've got a point sunks, I wouldn't be holing my breath - I think BWBW is "the" song from MCIS when you think of the commercial success
Bit, as a curve ball - Disarm to be a possibility???

HA, nay sayers be gone! 35!!!
I think to have SP at 78, 51 and 35 is bloody great considering Kingsmill appears to have lost interest in them and SP have been a bit of a source of jokes on JJJ in the last few years...
Almost as good as 10 years ago, when SP were still huge in everyone's minds

3 songs in ... SHIT I DID NOT EXPECT IT! 1979 to go from the 70's last time to the top 40 now ... thats fucking great. The song has aged like a fine wine!
Look lets compare this to the other 2 big 90's alt rock bands ... Pearl Jam and Nirvana. So far Nirvana, 1 song and Pearl Jam 1 song ... obviously Smells like Teen Spirit will be in the top #10 ... what about PJ? Alive has made it, could anything else make it in from these bands?
With 3 songs in, do I dare say the Pumpkins have appeared the most? (Im at work and can't check)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_J_Hottest_100,_2009#Hottest_100_of_all_time Artists with multiple entries Three Tracks The Smashing Pumpkins (35, 51, 78) The Beatles (24, 44, 86) obviously - the top 20 is to come. I would say Nirvana, Metallica and one or two other bands will join (and possibly surpass) the pumpkins with 3. My fingers are still crossed for Zero to get a start in the top 10!

I'd dare say that Daughter will get a run for PJ to give them three and Teen Spirit to Give Nirvana 3 also...

For SP to be next to Nirvana, the winners and The Beatles is pretty fucking awesome. Im so happy they got 3 songs in and they were spread out too ... not all at one end.

I love 1979 but I think BWBW encapsulates them better. Personally I'll be voting BWBW and Tonight, Tonight...
