I'm really looking forward to this song, so glad it's resurfaced. Also, does it look like Billy has hair growing hair under than beanie? I thought the puppet/doll thing might have been because he was radically changing his look and wanted to surprise everyone, I'm still hoping for a dreads, or a little rat's tail at least.

There are aspects of this song that i like and aspects that i don't. At times the vocals seem kind of disconnected and sporadic and don't entirely sync up with the music. I could even go so far as to say that the lyrics are a little stilted and their rhythm doesn't seem to flow smoothly at all.
Nonetheless, that piano intro instantly makes this a memorable track - it is like Billy is playing on your heart strings instead of a piano. I am a little disappointed they didn't go with the cathedral sounding Rhodes keyboard you can hear in the twitvid on kerry brown's blog, but maybe that will be included as an extra somewhere along the line.
The guitar work is great as usual - the solo's sound good and i like the lilting and soaring guitars in the background throughout the track and the way they come to the forefront during the chorus.... See More
Billy's voice sounds great on this track. I have always thought it was at it's best when he sings in a low key whisper, as if he is just practicing in a quiet room and not trying to project out to an audience.
Overall it is a very promising first edition for Teargarden. As this intends to be a 44-song opus, somewhat of a concept album reflecting his life and the life of the band, it will be best judged in the full context of the overall project.

The more i listen to it the more i think they would have been better off dropping the quiet bit from 3:37-4:20 - it sounds out of place, a little awkward, and kind of interrupts the flow of the song. In old school pumpkins style the solo should continue into and through the remaining verses, which i think lack that little bit of layered guitar and vocal oomph that many sp songs have towards the end - a song such as Untitled which builds nicely towards the end.

OK, I'm not gonna sit here and critique everything from the choice of sounds to the final production process, I just listen to a song and determine if I like it or don't, and rate accordingly for my iTunes. I've listened to the studio version once, and I quite liked it, and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Sounds a lot like The Doors to me.

It's like a cross between stairway to heaven, cats in the cradle and tenacious d's best song in the world. I don't mind it though. It's a memorable opener that I think will sound better in context of the album.
