hi there,
tryin to find an old pumpkins interview (pretty sure its an old interview, maybe its the corgan diaries) where billy is talking about cardinal rules the pumpkins have for the song arrangements..
something along the lines of things they do as a band to keep it interesting for them, like how if they have a killer riff thats central, they will never repeat it or run it into the ground... they have to change it up.. something like that.. part of a larger thing, i reallly wanna read the interview again.
eh, longshot, but if that rings a bell for anyone, do tell... i used to have a couple links to sp interview archives but they're dead. i've done a fair bit of searching but google is so populated by crap its hard to get at something this old/random.

there's similar sounding kind of things both in the billy 'autobiography' and in the guitar world lessons billy did where he teaches geek usa.

sweet thanks dude, was a 93 guitar world interview; As great as the tones are on Siamese Dream, it's Corgan's writing and arranging that really sets them off to ideal advantage. He is a master of contrasts, juxtaposing sandpaper stridency with passages of bell- like clarity. "It's probably just my short attention span," he jokes, "but one of our basic principles in the band is something we call a 'reset.' Say you've got a totally monster riff in a song. Now matter how good it is, after two minutes that riff is going to be worn down - it's not as exciting as it was during the first 30 seconds. So you need to provide a way to 'reset' that, by going to a quiet part of whatever, so that when the riff comes back, you've recaptured the initial rush of the song. The thing is, it's a bitch to write like that. We usually get the cool riff right away and then spend two months trying to figure out the last 20 percent of the song." www.starla.org/articles/gw3.htmcorgan autobiography, do you mean the diaries? don't think i've ever seen the guitar world lessons, are they still available online anywhere? did a quick search but nil.

don't think i've ever seen the guitar world lessons, are they still available online anywhere? did a quick search but nil. Since I've been re-learning all things guitar, I stumbled across this link full of archived GW lessons: ebookee.org/Various-Guitar-World-Lessons_405084.htmlHaven't downloaded myself yet, but looks promising!
