We are proud to be helping out with this ... Four years ago, Act IV and ThePumpkins.net collaborated on the successful Zeitgest Cover Song Contest, where fans were asked to submit covers of their favorite Zeitgeist era tracks to win some cool Smashing Pumpkins-related prizes. Now, with the recent re-issues of the first two classic Smashing Pumpkins albums, Gish and Siamese Dream, Act IV and ThePumpkins.net are collaborating to once again bring the fans another special contest. The SP: THE EARLY YEARS COVER SONG CONTEST will be along similar lines to the Zeitgeist cover song contest. But this time around, fans are asked to submit covers of their favorite Pumpkins originals spanning the early part of The Smashing Pumpkins’ career (1988-1994), from the earliest pre-Gish demos to Pisces Iscariot and Vieuphoria. In addition to winning some great Pumpkins-related merch, the winners of the contest will earn a spot on an extended version of Ghost Children/Machines of God, a digital EP being given away as a free incentive with the Ghost Children 2/Friends and Enemies charity compilation. Two spots are up for grabs, with the ‘Best Cover Song’ being awarded by selection committee, and the ‘Fan Favorite Cover’ being selected by you, the fans! More information here. Spread the word and please, let's get some Australian acts on there this time!

Thanks for spreading the word, Simon! Yes, it would be great to see some Aussie acts contributing to the contest! I don't think we ever had an Australian SP fan contribute something to one of our projects. Anyone planning to submit?

Hey everyone. I hope you are all doing great. Since I was last there, some more submissions have been posted. So be sure to check them out! And think you can do better, than submit today! On another note, one of our sponsors for the SP Early Years Cover Song Contest, Nameless Entity Media is currently trying to raise funds for a new broadcast license. They were previously known as Tranquilizer Records/Tranquilizer Radio, but due to a change in management, they need to get all new licenses. Please help them out whether it's $1 or $20 or $100. Nameless Entity Media supports independent music acts, giving them a voice on the radio, from internet radio play, live events, interviews and much more. Please help them make Chicago their new home! You can contribute here: For more info about Nameless Entity Media, please go here: namelessentitymedia.com/For more info and to submit for the SP Early Years Cover Song Contest, please go here: thepumpkins.net/contests/78-sp-the-early-years-cover-song-contestPlease also check out the Act IV site here: www.act4.net/David

You can now vote. Please listen to all the entries before voting. You only get one vote, so make it count!: thepumpkins.net/contests/78-sp-the-early-years-cover-song-contestI didn't realize this, but it seems there is at least one more entry from Australia. plasmate74 who covered "Obscured" seems to also be from Australia according to his member profile. So that's cool. We have entries from all over the world in general, Australia, US, Italy, Hungary, and I imagine some other countries. It's always great to see SP fans coming together from around the world .

I'm finding it hard to select which one ... I take this very seriously! Oh I know, it's a mere matter of degrees with my top 5 and even then there, there are some great covers that could have made it into my top 5 but I had to choose just 5...and then decide in what order they would fall.

Congratulations to all the winners. I know you people have seen most of the information before but Billy has made his choice : SP: THE EARLY YEARS CONTEST ANNOUNCES WINNERS AND WHAT'S NEXT: After two months of promotions, SP fans coming together to breathe life into covers of their favorite SP tunes from the Pre-Gish era to Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot (1988-1994), and a month or so of voting, the SP: The Early Years Contest has drawn to close. The fans, the selection committee, and Billy Corgan have spoken. 30 covers were submitted for the contest but unfortunately there can only be 3 winners. We would like to congratulate the following winners!: "Obscured" by Adrian Bunn (Best Cover Song as chosen by Selection Committee), "Quiet" by Prophets for Zombies (Fan Favorite Cover as chosen by the fans), and "Jennifer Ever" by Michael Taylor Alexander (Best New Interpretation as chosen by none other than BILLY CORGAN). The winners of the first two categories winners will receive copies of the Gish and Siamese Dream deluxe re-issues, copies of Ghost Children 1 and 2, as well as a copy of and spot on Version 2.0 of the Ghost Children/Machines of God digital EP. The winner of the 'Best New Interpretation' category will receive a copy of the yetto be released Pisces Iscariot deluxe re-issue, copy of Ghost Children 2, as well as a copy and spot on the Ghost Children/Machines of God EP. Soon, you will be able to pick up your own copy of Version 2.0 of the Ghost Children/Machines of God digital EP to get these great covers and more as a free incentive for purchasing a copy of Ghost Children 2. All profits from the sale of Ghost Children 2 go to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. And in case you're wondering about the other 27 covers that did not win. We will be reaching out the artists, to let them have their say on what they want done with their covers. One possibility is giving them out for free with people being given the option to donate to Make-A-Wish if they so choose. Regardless, everyone will be considered for possible future releases (eg. Ghost Children 3). Act IV (Steven and David) would like to give a special thanks to our main collaborator, Jay ( Webmaster for ThePumpkins.net) and the rest of the selection committee/sponsors for all your help: Aaron( Blamo.org/Siva), Monte ( Crestfallen.com), Simon and Bree ( Ozphoria), Arthur ( SPfreaks), Milan ( Starla.org), Simon LeSieur ( SP.com O-Boards Admin), Neil Main (Ghost Children creator), Ashley Fahey (former SP UK fan group webmaster), and Jyn Radakovits ( Nameless Entity Media). The organizers would also like to extend a very special thanks to Billy Corgan for helping us with this very special contest as a guest judge! We would also like to thank everyone who voted and everyone who submitted. We hope that you will submit and vote again for the next contest! The other day I went on Jyn from Nameless Entity Media show, Chicago Underground. I talked to her and her co-host Bratley about the contest, where you can find originals for the contest winners, the digital EP, Make-A-Wish, and more. One of the things I talked about was my appreciation of the fact that we got at least 3 Australian entries this year, which I thought I was cool, since we never got any submissions from Australia before. You can listen to the show here: soundcloud.com/jynradakovits/cuwithdavidI wanted to also add, that as I mention in the show, I welcome anyone who has ever been involved in any Act IV-related projects, whether you played at the Act IV shows or submitted for the one of the contests or somewhere in between, we would like for you to get a chance to get your originals played. Even if you didn't even submit to any of our projects, we encourage you to submit your originals to Nameless Entity Media. They are always looking for new music, so if you or anyone has music that you would like to share with the world, send them a long some song links. Then it could be played on either their show or one of the others on Nameless Entity Media.
