Does anybody know when the next album is out. I know Mr Reznor was busy with the whole Tapeworm project ... but i could really do for some new NIN right now.
Im listening to Things Falling Apart at the moment - man there are some great versions of songs on here! ...

Before I get started, I'd just like to say this is not an NIN bashing post, I think I just need enlightening.
I've always had a problem with NIN. I've never understood why they (well, Trent) are so respected. I mean, I know that they are - a Spin mag I have from 1997 lists Reznor as Reznor as the most important person in music (Pumpkins were second!) - I just can't see why.
I had the Downward Spiral, and all the lyrics seem so childish, and the music so repetitive and uninspired(especially the drum-machine sounds - very constant - this also seems to stand out on the live album). The Fragile seems better (I'll admit I've only heard parts of it) but their mega-ness still remains a mystery to me.
As I said, feel free to enlighten me as to why I am wrong. There's obviously something to them - they have a lot of dedicated fans (who in general probably have similar musical tastes to me).

first i know what the tapeworm project is (vaugely) but what the hell is going on with it, i downloaded vacant, it seems ok but not that great, and why is it taking so long....
as for bens point, well i agree with you on why they are SO highly rated, i understand why they are highly rated, and i love alot of their music, but some of it is pretty crap... i think why reznor is so highly rated is because he does it all himself, from drums to guitar to nearly all piano... but i dont like the music as much as alot of bands, but i was listening to the fragile the other day and i thought wow this is a fantastic album... and the live album has some great performances of some songss, but yeah i dont particaullay like some of the songs cause they seem so electroniclly bassed (yes bassed as in synthesised bass) and the eltronic drums etc... but songs like piggy, march of the pigs, terrible lie, the great below etc are very well done...

and the music so repetitive and uninspired I find the music of NIN pretty amazing its different from your standard guitar/bass/drum thing its more experimental, using computers with instruments to create different sounds. The stuff off The Fragile is brilliant like The Big Come Down that sort of twangy sound I can't explain. Just like you Imagined...... Each to their own I guess.

ben - it either you like their style of music or you don't - just becuase the lyrics are presented in a different way and the music is of a repetative style [only really on Pretty Hate Machine] - doesn't make it bad or childish.
You can't expect them to be the typical guiatr, drum, bass - this songs written for radio type of band - they are and never will be that. The music speaks to the fans on a different level ... also - they are highly respected as they were really the first industrial band to become popular, also Trents efforts towards new music is another reason for their large fanbase. Geez if it wasn't for him Marilyn Manson would not be the star he is today.
Everybody likes other bands - like personally i see Oasis as nothing special - to me they are a band who havn't really done anything that seperates them from the other Brit Pop bands - they are still doing the same thing they were doing 6 years ago - to me - thats boring. BUT - they have a large fans base - so am i wrong? no - i just don't like their style ...
If you really want to get into some good NIN i recomend listening to the whole The Fragile album - that will simply blow you away - the whole album flows into one long epic.

Apparently it was a side project between trent and (drum roll) billy. it got canned over creative differences (i can imagine, clash of the egos, lol). i gotta try and find it for you guys. stay tuned. i freaked out.

Ok, Tapeworm...thats been around for like 8 years now, and doesn't seem much closer to being finished. Tho iirc Maynard was working with Reznor on some stuff again last year. Biggest problem with it is probably getting all the people together...Maynard's a busy guy, and so are the others.
As for the new NIN album...that'll be out...when...uh...whenever I guess. Reznor was producing the new Zack de la Rocha album as well as working on the Doom 3 soundtrack last I heard. I suppose we'll be ending up with another 5 year wait between albums like we did with the fragile...
Actually, he's probably busy playing his PS2 or something. Damn him.
He's not exactly the fastest worker ever.
Oh, and soundslikequiet, seeing as NIN are my favourite band, Im going to have to slap you. Sorry. ;D

like what has been said earlier, i think reznor is named as such an important person in music is because of two main reasons. firstly he broke a lot of barriers with nine inch nails, experimenting with and establishing the musical genre "industrial". he has continued the gothic theme from some of the 80's bands (the cure, bauhaus) and nin is a landmark band of the 90's. lyrically he may seem childish at times, but they are all full of angst, and sometimes when you are in a full angstomanic mood you dont really want to be thinking about the deep lyrics being sung.
also trent reznor does heaps of work with other bands in production stages, dont forget, he is a computer geek so he knows how to tweak music. most of the new "goth rock" has either had reznor working with them or been heavily influenced by them. i remember reading somewhere that the music (the band that is) were greatly influenced by pretty hate machine.
and by the way, its always best listening to nin with a cape on and in a room with candles.
angstomanic - did i just invent a word?

okay here's question. have you guys heard the song memorabilia from one of the closer singles? trent didn't write it, but sang, and it is a nine inch nails song apparently. its a rare track and worth a listen.

Yeah, it is quite good. In fact, all of the songs on the Closer singles were good.

yeah, i like those remixes. i'm not one for remixes (i'd prefer unreleased tracks) usually but i'll make an exeption for NIN. trent doesn't let any old fool do it, and most of the time he does it anyway, so you know its quality.
here's another... great song, new, but somewhat overlooked... Deep. great clip too. there is beauty in choas.
sunky, i remember reading somwhere that trent's new stuff will be along the lines of deep... and bass... aggressive bass. i have no idea on a release date... wish he'd hurry up. nin.com is always down when i go there...
