Placebo have parted company with drummer of 11 years, Steve Hewitt, due to personal and musical differences.
Brian Molko commented "Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples - in this case a triple - people can grow apart over the years. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak."
The split is amicable and a sad time for both parties. Steve Hewitt replaced Robert Schultzberg behind the drum kit in 1996 whilst the band were promoting Placebo's eponymous debut album and went on to record the following 4 studio albums 'Without You I'm Nothing', 'Black Market Music', 'Sleeping With Ghosts' and most recently 'Meds'.
Placebo have just returned from the USA where they were part of the high profile 'Projekt Revolution Tour' alongside Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. The band are now taking a well earned break.
Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal will begin work on Placebo's 6th studio album next Spring and are in no rush to find an immediate replacement for Steve.

To be fair, he isn't the greatest drummer in the world, nor do placebo need a great drummer. He seemed like a cool guy though.
as for more placebo, the more they go on, the less interested i get. I havent even listened to meds.

Yeah i wasn't a fan of Meds. A big fan prior though.
I'll check out their next one, i think a lot of people got put off by their last tour also where they were pretty lifeless.

Oh thats sad, met him once and he was nice and polite. But yeah, musically he won't be hard to replace ... as for Placebo (much like Muse and Radiohead) I've lost my interest in them over the past few years. Although there are still some classics from them. Meds was just so "paint by numbers" if you know what I mean, like Placebo trying to be Placebo?

Sorry to hear about Steven! He was a pretty cool drummer, I liked his style...though I reckon I could've done a better job on some of the tracks on Meds! Hahaha.
Meds isn't a bad album by any means- it's just not a great one. Dissapointing, naturally, as Placebo are a great band.

yep Russ has been a member on here for ages, he has played at all the Smashing Pumpkins tribute nights we have done in Perth and is a good friend of ours - the next best thing to Jimmy Chamberlin on drums!

I liked a few tracks I heard, but I stand by the fact that I sometimes think Radiohead are extremely over rated and built up to be bigger and greater than they are. They took such great risks with their sound between The Bends, Ok Computer and Kid A, then Amnesiac and Hail the the Thief just seemed to be where they stayed. Not really pushing beyond Kid A really ... and from what I've heard of In Rainbows its a bit down the same path. No saying its bad, just saying its nothing ground breaking.
Also its a bit sad that everybody that is referring to bands now "Doing a Radiohead" when talking about going "indie" and releasing albums online for fans first, have no idea the Pumpkins did it 7 years ago. I've read so many articles stating that Radiohead are the first band to give their album away online ... I know the Pumpkins circumstances are different, but still give credit where it is due.
Anyway about to listen to In Rainbows in full, just downloaded a copy, still waiting for my activation code from the site ... anybody else got theirs? also the question is ... how much are you going to be paying?
