Technical Info:
Audio One - This is the matrix release and is pcm. It had
to be stretched in order to sync it to the video. The first 40
seconds of this track are from the vhs audio (before
compression) to fill in the silence.

Audio Two - This is the original vhs audio and is in ac3.
I chose to do ac3 so that the video quality could remain
higher and so that I did not have to re-encode the video.

Video - Captured with an ati 8500dv.

The vhs is an unknown gen. Brian Muehlhaus had this to say
on netphoria

I have the complete Storytellers video, even though it isn't really complete.
I have been told that I have one of the lower generations around. Don't know
if that is true, but I got mine from a guy named Jonathan Hunt in 2001 or so.
If I remember correctly, some of the songs they played again aren't on the
video I have, so technically it isn't complete, but I have heard that the
complete video with every song that we have on the audio versions isn't in
any circulation. Don't know if that is true.

The chapters of this release are messed up because I encoded
the video with open gops. Some chapters start a little into
the song. It doesnt effect anything too greatly.

-During the first few seconds of rocket there is a presenter telling about what you can see in the broadcast later that evening. You can already hear the pumpkins start Rocket at the back of him, so I left him in.
-Today is cut because the broadcast of the pinkpop festival was interrupted for other programs. At the end of today you can see the end credits of the broadcast.
-The very first notes of Disarm are cut. This is the way it was broadcasted.
-The transition from drown into hummer is missing a part. Drown was not broadcasted until a few years after the festival and to make the show more complete I have included it in the place where it belonged in the setlist. The pumpkins went straight into hummer and a little part of that transition is missing due to 2 different broadcasts.

Ok here as promised is the Smashing Pumpkins 1998-05-28 Brussels Botanique Gardens DVD (1.25.55hrs).

I got this a few years back from a record fair as a DVD. I think it's recorded direct to
DVD from TV although it could be a VHS transfer. The quality is pretty good if a little
washed out and has a tiny amount of colour bleed. The audio is excellent and it's a great
venue and cracking Adore era show.

Notes:
My copy was from a vhs purchased on ebay, allegedly a second generation tape;
making mine a third.
The picture quality indicates that its likely accurate;
but while its a far cry from a proper dvb copy, its such a great show
that the quality should come as no deterrent.

This gig was one of the few "warm up" gigs done before they went on their
last tour.

All was not broadcasted, but a more complete copy could exist,
and obviously a better generation one SHOULD exist.

Siamese Dream was recorded in Atlanta in the winter of '93, so some of the songs performed here are first timers. Interestingly, the versions are near identical renditions to the album, as the material is obviously quite fresh to them. Add the rare appearances of "HKK", "F&B" and James doing his best Dave Gahan impression for "I Feel You" and it's a fun time all the way through.

Video is quite good, once the folks around the taper settle in it's a great view of the stage. Killer set but unfortunate that "F&B" is cut just 20 seconds into the song. I filled in the audio with the AUD source and I did a quick-fill of video for that song. Basically it's a few cut up pieces in slow-mo crossfading once in a while. Better than a black screen or incomplete set. Also the very beginning of "Geek" is cut, I think the taper thought the banter would go on longer as they were switching guitars for that song. NBD though.

Transferred the same way as always, capped through my HD-cam and down-converted to DV, edited in Vegas and rendered in Main Concept MPG2 and Dolby Digital AC3. Sorry though, no 5.1, it's just stereo. I played with a bunch of different audio setups on this one and decided the straight stereo sounded the best to me. Audio was worked over, sounds ok, I think it's a little better than the straight audio, but not all that much. That's AUD's for ya.

Built a small menu for it, DVD begins with a title screen then the main menu appears, and song selections can be made from the track menu. Plus it has some nice soothing tunes and a built-in SP heart-shaped glitter lamp for your extra enjoyment.

General-Notes:
This was one of the last shows Zwan played. Too bad, cause i had tickets for the Gurten-Festival in Switzerland they should have played some weeks later...so that's why i haven't seen them live ;(
Anyway, i recorded this show when it was first aired. It seems that other recordings also exist. I have no clue whether they look better than mine (DVB would be nice), but they don't sound better. That's for sure (see Audio-Notes). So if anyone who downloaded my version could tell me if there's a better quality recording out there, i'd be happy.....


Transfer-Notes:
Some of you guys may ask: "Why did he downsize it? That's a loss of quality!" Well, you are wrong there...
When i recorded the show onto DVD with FR mode, it gave me the highest bitrate that's possible (about 10Mbps for Audio&Video). But the WDR broadcasts are usually about 4000kbps (experience from other DVD's that were directly recorded on HD). So if i shared the 10Mbps version, that would have been the same thing like you'd reencode mp3 to Wav. Makes no sense at all, quality don't get better....but the size of the file gets much bigger. So i decided to downsize to VBR 6000kbps (just a safety. Minimum was set to 4500kbps, maximum to 7000kbps), Hope you can live with that.....


Audio-Notes:
As always, i'm trying to give you guys and girls the best possible quality (said: trying ). So i thought: if i do this DVD then it needs the best available audio. And that is....mighty Mixwell's 13RM of course. Damn, that was hard fight to synch the audio & video. It was like hell...terrible. Did i mention it was hard work? Ok, finally it worked. Below you can see Mixwell's notes on his remaster. So there shouldn't be any questions left.

Mixwell's Notes:

"This one was difficult, to say the least. I worked on it a few times over the last 3 or 4 months. I had a source of it that I got from the newsgroups maybe three weeks after the show, and no source info. It sounded nice, but much like a digital FM source or even more likely a digital TV broadcast, as at times I hear an 18k TV tube interference. Digital FM or TV is something which I consider to be more of a lossy format. It's an encoded process anyway, and if MP3's or WMA's are considered lossy, then so should these as it's a very similar process. It's nice that it didn't start out lossless, then lossy, then back. But let's face it, it ain't lossless the way an old dog like me expects his lossless to be. Yea, I'm not a big fan of the digital FM or TV. Woof.

Then Obertu sent us his lossless TV rip. Ouch! That one is crunched. Heavily. But contains certain elements that mine lacked. Combining them is tricky, but I did it anyway. I had to play with it often, abandon it, try again a different way, then abandon again. When combining two sources of identical origin (the TV broadcast in this case) phasing issues come to the forefront real quick. So it wasn't easy, and I ended up with more of my version than the TV one, but I filled in some gaps.

It sounds nice or I wouldn't bother with it, but it certainly could have been better with a proper lossless source, and I don't think one exists or someone's holding out on us. Either way, you can enjoy this one.

As for the show, great performance again, a rare quality version of "Baby Let's Rock" and Billy's guitar solo on "Jesus, I" is truly mind-numbing."

I recieved this tape in a trade back in 1998 from Stacie Glass, who was a really great trader back then (if you're still around, I'd love to hear from you!)

Not sure of the generation of this tape, I'd say its rather low. Contains some of the Pumpkins show in Sydney, along with interviews (which cut into the songs sadly.. stupid editors..) and some band history along the way.


This was Triple J's "Recovery" special, along with some extras including interviews with Darcy and James, as well as D+J hosting Rage and picking their favorite music videos (videos were edited out)

I hope this is enjoyed. It really made me remember why I love (and still miss) SP.. and the venue is incredibly beautiful.

Oh and Billy attempts to throw the interviewer into the water.. he actually picks her up over his shoulder!! its pretty funny!!

About:
Well this dvd was a royal pain in the ass. When zaraq transferred this,
it made the disc very hard to copy. All I did here was use a transfer that
ziggy got to me and added some menus. No chapter splits, just menus. I did
this so that a warning could be put on the front page of the menu about paying
for this. This has become pretty much standard in my releases.

At any rate, here is some info straight from an email from zaraq:
"This is the equipment i´ve recorded:
Sony TR2200E Hi8(M) transfered with a Standalone DVD in HQ
mode ~ 4 Mbps >DVDr(M) PAL System.
Then i use DVD decrypter to burn the show to Ziggy that is DVDr(1)."

Unfortunately the original transfer was in pal and I am just too lazy to reencode it.
