Just three more days until Convention Centre! And two more days until V Fest! Reading about the Hordern show has really brought home the fact that the Pumpkins are ACTUALLY here and I will ACTUALLY be seeing them...for real! Until now it has felt like some kind of far-reaching dream. As though at any second I would wake up and go, 'oh, right, it was all a dream - they're not back together and touring at all'.

Updated with set list.
Back at our hotel after this amazing show... Wow.
At first we thought the set list would be the same as the Sydney side show, but they slipped in Stellar, Drown, I Don't Mind and The Rose March. Simon got the sound guy's set list and they were going to play Zero and Cherub, but for whatever reason didn't.
Most, if not all, of Team Ozphoria got on the barrier, I was right in front of Jeff and we all gave him loads of of love. Go Jeff.
Billy got a bit pissed off with the crowd yelling out the usual crap "play Disarm" whatnot and stopped the into to That's the Way to have a rant about it. "What the fuck do you want me to do?" But he was all smiles later when he kicked our asses with Everlasting Gaze > Cash Car Star etc.
Crowd was mostly good, not as rough as Sydney V Fest.

Starlight
Having gorged ourselves on tasty Indian cuisine my friends and I made our way to the convention centre. Tonight was the night. The Smashing Pumpkins were here, in Brisbane, playing their own show. At long last the concert that we had been most anticipating had arrived. The concert tickets had said that the show started at 7:30pm and it was half an hour past that when we arrived. Unconcerned were we about arriving late as bands all start late, and there is always the support act to sit through. Unfortunately for us we discovered that the Smashing Pumpkins were, as usual, the exception to the rule. On arrival we discovered that they were halfway through their epic song “Porcelina of the Vast Oceans” and realised, much to our dismay that we'd missed some of the set we had waited so many years to see (I later discovered that this was the first song they played). Nevertheless, we quickly overcame our disappointment (well what else was there to do?), took our seats and treated our ears to one of the finest experiences that they will ever endure.
When Porcelina was complete Corgan threw another (this time welcome) surprise our way by playing “Behold! The Nightmare” from the vastly underrated album Adore. As the evening progressed, Corgan treated us with many deviations from expectations when he threw in the forgotten classic from the Singles soundtrack “Drown”, the Mellon Collie filler track “Lily”, no less than four new songs (“Stellar”, “My Blue Heaven” and the encore songs “I Don't Mind” and “Rose March”) and a whole pile of lesser-known songs from all of the Pumpkins albums, including “Cash Car Star” from the internet-only release Machina II. They also played a majority of their singles and some of the more well known songs such as “Mayonnaise”. Unfortunately some of my personal favourites such as “Thru the Eyes of Ruby” and “Soma” were not played.
This brings me to an interesting point about this evening's performance. Corgan at one stage, annoyed with the crowd shouting requests at him during some of his more quiet songs made a very interesting point. He stopped playing and asked the crowd “what do you want me to do?” The crowd cheered. “Ah that's just what I thought... meaningless noise”. He went on “You know the thing I hate about being in this band is that he wants me to play stuff from one of my older albums, she wants me to play some obscure B-side and he wants to hear all the singles. I can't make anybody happy.” At which point the crowd roared with laughter, but the point was made – unless the Pumpkins played a ten-hour plus concert, they were always going to leave out at least one song that someone really, desperately needed to hear. It is the curse of a band which has released so many albums of such fine quality that people not only wish to hear the singles, but all the rest of the tracks too.
The night went on, with slow acoustic versions of some songs (notably “1979”) balancing out the very hard heavy rock of other songs. One of the most notable and enjoyable songs of the evening was Ava Adore. The album version of this song sounds very much like a cross between soft-rock and techno. Tonight's version was so heavy and bombastic that it was almost unrecognisable as being the same song. It was a treat to hear. Finally, the Pumpkins peaked with their new favourite epic rock track, the centrepiece to their most recent album Zeitgeist - “United States”. Guitars wailed and drums pounded as the Pumpkins took this song from the tame eight minutes plus album version and turned it into a twenty odd minute monster, throwing in random jams and other extravagances, before one final explosion of noise before the song, and the night was over. Well that is barring an encore comprised of two acoustic songs that I had not heard before.
The Queens of the Stone Age concert on Thursday night could best be described as a raw, energetic, almost sexual concert experience, while the V Festival had a far more earthy, backyard, invite your mates around to see some music feel, while tonight's performance was a more professional, polished, big band show. All had their appeal and for different reasons, but I was glad to finish with such a bombastic extravaganza sonically and visually. Still, it could have been Billy on banjo and Jimmy on bongos in a dark room and I'd have probably loved every divine minute of it.

I had an awesome time again tonight. I was to the left of stage, on Ginger's end about 2-3 people back. It was nice to chat to other fans who shared the Pumpkin Love. My set highlights: Mayonaise, Stellar, Lily, Ava Adore, Crush and My Blue Heaven. I just realised that it's pointless because I could mention the whole setlist. The crowd was very into it without getting rowdy, until the kids went crazy for Tarantula. Billy got a little frustrated at a few punters that were yelling out requests while he was starting up an acoustic That's the Way. An annoying dude near me wanted Stumbleine. Towards the end of the show, The band looked surprised that the encore was ending on The Rose March. It felt like the show ended on an abrupt note, but I guess Billy didn't want to play any longer for us rude fans. It was a fine night, but now especially now after seeing the setlist, I feel a bit sad that it could have gone on for that little bit longer if a few people didn't yell out.

Yeah i'm really keen on hearing Ava
no matter how good that show was, a lot of casual fans would still be beging it with that encore i'd imagine
Shame.

it was a very nice gig, the crowd was a lot smaller than i expected. big suprise of the night was ava adore, which made my best friends night.
again a shame that they didn't feel like playing more encores, but they covered so many songs it was hard to get upset.
even though i heard stand inside your love at gc vfest..it was still amazing!!! Bring the light was great too..plus Drown..that was awesome to hear live!

Wow, poor Billy. I guess that sorta shows the people who go on about him being 'notoriously unfriendly' i bet they never thought the phrase 'i can't make anyone happy' would come from him about his fans. I feel really bad for him because he is kinda right. It does make me hopeful for Adelaide tomorrow though. If they played any of those songs (ava adore, the rose march, drown) i'd be ecstatic. Just one different song would make my night. And were they intending on playing Zero?

I had an awesome time meeting up with team ozphoria. Blue June, Sunky, Tarantula Boelson, Brundi, trev and the many other people i met from here made the show even better.
I went in with an open mind, trying not to expect too much and not wanting to hear a specific song, and i think it was a good idea. I didn't feel the urge to shout out for a song, I was just happy being given what i was given, because i love every song.
I loved hearing my blue heaven, drown and the everlasting gaze, they rocked (if a piano song can rock) but all the other songs were awesome too.
Sunky and i were saying it was really cool to see generations who only would have been able to get into the pumpkins after i broke up. One of the girls next to me was 18, and had liked the pumpkins for 9 years. I gave her my ozphoria wrist band so maybe she'll turn up here. A few fans were asking questions before the show which was fun to ask.
I'm not sure that billy was pissed off, i can never really tell with that man, (remember in 2005 when he pretended to storm off stage because they requested pumpkins songs, and everyone took him seriously) he seemed like he was half joking to me, i mean they get that at every concert so why crack it then. It was quite funny, because no-one dared yell out a song name after he spoke about that. "i'll play you my favorite song, "nothing" (he air strumed the guitar) /the shows been going for 90 minutes, most bands would have pissed off and gone home by now, theres still an hour and a bit to go, you never know we might actually play your song"
I was happy they played stellar over starla.
sexberrie - yes sunky got the setlist and it had zero and cherub rock as the last two songs of the encore, but they didn't play it.
Does anyone think he was actually pissed off and cut the show short? I'd like to think not.

Wow that last photo is amazing! btw, what is this september rumour? At the signing in sydney Jimmy said they may be looking to come back with queens later in the year, september or so he thought. I'm not sure if it can be done or not, He also said more complex stuff will be out this year so it's hard to see time for another tour here so soon.
