Hey I was at the Brisbane show and met some of you guys while waiting for the doors to open (Green shirt, black headband, on the barricade with the guy with the iPhone) Thanks for the wristband and hope the tour is going well. It was an amazing show, but man did Billy hate us I got a video on my phone of him having his rant before My love (Crap quality but i'll try to upload it). Also got Tonight, Tonight and 1979 which were amazing, but I feel if I had a little more eclectic knowledge of their songs I would have appreciated it more, though Billy's guitar tone was like a knife and I loved every second of it. Highlights for me: Lily, Crush, United States, Getting death stared by Ginger when I called out to her at the start. Some people we met there got the actual set list and a drum stick, I got an orange pick (Who uses the orange ones? I know Corgan uses black cause my friend got one)

maan that was amazing!!! freaking unreal.. had the best seats in the house thanks to the presale link i got from yous..owe yous big time.. cant describe how i felt when they palyed Mayonaise and drown...stand inside your love brought back memories from highschool and that unforgetable moment at the v fest the previous day when i lipsynced the whole song to the chick next to me in the crowd and I meant every word cos at that moment I truly felt that way towards her lol.. she started talking to me right after queens went off stage complimenting me for my sp greatest hits t-shirt which is quite common :S..1st & last time iv ever spoken to a girl who loved the pumpkins as much as i did and for the entirety of the show we were connected by a unique bond that only a magical band like sp can create and she was there with me at one of the happiest moments of my life and I know she felt the same. At the end of the show just like a classic corny chick flick she kisses me so I turn around for a second to see if my bro saw this (to gloat ) but as I turn around she had disappeared into the dispersing crowd . I was too busy recording crap with my phone that I didn’t use its main function to get her number and I also cant remember her name lol..oh well!! .. maybe next pumpkins concert.. oh did I mention that fact she was HOT!! sorry about the off topic gay story but back on track - guys who missed the bit about aussies being rude like americans etc and the song called nothing right b4 1979 ill upload the vid by wed or thu unless its already upthere( i got to go to uni to upload cos i hav dial up at home ).. have 100mins of the show on the cellphone cam untill the battery died on me..the little table on the seat acted as a tripod (so no shaking like vids from mosh pits)and the sp shirt from the merchandise store acted as a sound filter (which didnt do that good a job)..will also upload if I hav time - perfect(acoustic so sound quality is good), mayonnaise, drown+bullet with butterfly wings (one clip) and lilly+today+tarantula (one clip)..ill post the links up as soon as I do it but iv noticed they take a while to process on youtube.. till then.. laters

Yeah the show was great. Except I regret not meeting my fellow Ozphorians and lining up hardcore for the front row. Somehow at V Fest I ended up at the barrier. I think V Fest was my 'wow it's the Pumpkins' moment and the show on Monday didn't have me as excited as i thought it would. However I remember during 'Behold! The Nightmare' I got tingles in my stomach because it sounded so great! Also I was right up the back for the convention centre show and everywhere I moved to stand, some big tall guy would just come and stand in front of me, it seemed. Not to mention when I almost passed out for some reason and had to go outside and I missed Lily However, after 12 years of anticipating SP live I must say that I'm glad to be a fan of a band that certianly rocks hardcore ;D

Well what can I say, one of the most amazing and emotional experiences of my life.
First of all, just let me say, that any negative words I said towards Zeitgeist and American Gothic and the material on it I take back. Those two recordings now officially make sense to me and haven’t left my player since after the show. The main reason for this I feel, is the power of that material live, and also the sheer power of the overall band live, just made me realise why I fell in love with the band back when I was a 12 year old kid.
The perfect Setlist in my mind. It was amazing to see Porcelina open the show and again like I said, this was so powerful it made me a tad bit emotional. This wave of emotion continued as Behold The Nightmare kicked in. When Tonight Tonight and Mayonnaise were played, I have to say I was reminded so strongly as to why I love the Smashing Pumpkins so much.
I now understand why “United States” is such a great song. Every one of you who said it too me was right, that song in the live arena is amazing.
Everything about it was great. I was not disappointed at all.
Smashing Pumpkins have proved to me once again why I love them so much. Bring on the next wave of recordings and touring.
Dan xo
P.S. It was great to see Billy rant at the crowd. They deserved every inch of his frustration. Well justified outbursts.

So what was Billy's rant all about? Or was it just about not being able to please everyone with their songs?

Do you think Billy purposefully does stuff like that in shows, just to play up to how he is characterised by the media (and perhaps even himself)?
I would have thought Billy would have been used to people yelling stuff out at gigs over the years, without him genuinely feeling the need to crack it. It sort of makes me wonder if Billy engages with the audience like that on purpose to go along with his characterisation.

I doubt he does it on purpose.
Its been long established that Corgan isnt a carbon copy rockstar and the band doesnt just play 'alternative' or 'rock' music. And because critics and lables and management and wanker punters cant classify the band - they cant understand the band. Then when Billy says something - that more often than not is either sarcastic or tongue in cheek - people fail to see the humour and percieve him/the band as being spiteful or intentionally difficult or some BS.
How - after this long - does no one get how Billy rolls!?!?!

i doubt it was keep his bad image. i just love that they arent a rehearsed band, and strage banter etc is individual to each show. makes it more enjoyable seeing lots of shows.
i hope they arent abck in september, i'd like some time before a new tour. even if they do come back then, i think i'd just do melbourne. was fucking amazing seeing all teh shows so far, and both melbourne to come, but i think i'd miss catching up with everyone more then seeing the band alot of times.

The Brisbane Rollercoaster Brisbane...Brisbane...Brisbane...*shakes head* I left this concert feeling like i wanted to cry...then feeling like i wanted to smash some stuff...then feeling like i wanted to cry again. For me this whole show was a rollercoaster ride and when the band walked off stage i was left feeling very miserable indeed. But more on that later... As usual i rocked up to the gig super early so i don't have to stand behind Scotty. There was only 3 guys there when i arrived and i quickly struck up a conversation with Adam who was an interesting chap with a great sp tattoo and had just flown in from Sydney. We managed to while away a few hours doing pretty much fuck all. Then the rest of the Ozphoria crew arrived, and were immediately greeted by rapturous applause by the waiting fans (by that i mean they were confronted by a knobhead and accused of pushing into the cue - something that left most of us dumbfounded and having a bitter taste in the mouth - way to welcome us Brissie!!!). Josh disappeared for an hour or so, so myself and Heath set out to track him down - where should we find him, but waiting at the front entrance for Billy to arrive. We joined him and were rewarded after a short wait with the bands arrival. Soon after we were all excited to hear the sound check - until we unceremoniously got booted by security - woohoo - we were really gonna start a riot so a good thing you moved us along. Finally got into the show after a long but seemingly comfortable wait, and i was able to choose any spot on the barrier i wished. I went for just slightly to the left of Billy's mic, where his guitar amp was at it's loudest. Fuck yeah - this show is gonna rock. I knew they were gonna hit Porcelina as soon as he strummed the first warmup bar on his guitar, and the show was on. The highlights of the early part of the show was a stirring rendition of Perfect, which incidentally is not one of my favourite songs, but it just seemed to strike a chord with me this night. Also, during the first song or so i made eye contact with Jimmy and gave him the thumbs up sign - he gave a short nod of acknowledgement in return which was so awesome words can't describe. Superchrist was again awesome, and Tarantula was just brilliant. Then it was like, wtf? Is that For Martha? No way, that's Ava Adore!! Unbelievable. It was great to get another new song live, this being my first tour and all. And what came next was possibly the single best musical moment of my life. Billy started talking about how he was going to play a song that they recorded before grunge was born, and it got me thinking about Gish, or even pre-Gish. Then he said it is available on the singles soundtrack and i immediately let go a resounding YEAH!!! that had the punters all around me looking at me strangely. And i am not ashamed to admit that when Billy sang that first line the emotion was too much for me and a tear or two rolled down my cheek...no matter where you are, i can still here you when you drown...All i can say is fucking amazing. Blew me away totally, and was something really unexpected - i didn't even know they played it anymore. Bullet and 1979 were spot on, and had the crowd in a lively mood and hungry for more singles... Then came the ranting and the raving from Billy that left me feeling like i had my heart torn out, kicked around in the dust, then shoved back into my chest sideways and upside down. You think Billy was faking it? I stood barely a metre away from him at this stage, and i could see the pain in his eyes, the frustration, the tiredness. I saw the way he spat and hissed at the crowd when he sang "you creatures scream" during the everlasting gaze. Take my word for it, this was not put on. And i will add my 2cents worth to the debate - a big FUCK YOU to the Brisbane crowd. FFS, you are there to see a show! I mean c'mon - you don't go to the circus and start yelling out for the lions to do backflips or whatever - you go there you sit down you shut the fuck up and you enjoy the performance. A concert should be no different. Billy and crew put a lot of work into deciding what songs they are going to play each show, and for you to be yelling out to play something else for your own selfish fucking interests is totally wrong. And don't even get me started on the people who were calling out mid-song for him to play something else. I am glad they didn't play Zero or Cherub Rock, because you mob of pricks didn't deserve it. It is a shame that the majority had to suffer because of the few loudmouth abnoxious knobheads in the crowd that spoiled it for everyone. I mean ffs, there were people talking the whole way through songs right in front of billy, people talking on their phones, people lighting up cigarettes. Sheesh...ok, rant over, let's move on. Once again Cash Car Star and United States rocked, but even still i was left deflated over what had just happened - when Billy is sad i am sad. I think he may have even put extra effort into these 2 tracks as a way of working off some of his frustration. I had serious doubts that he would come back out for an encore, and part of me was hoping he wouldn't. But sure enough out he came and played 2 of the most beautiful songs i have heard - Rose March sent shivers up my spine. At the end of the song i was looking at Ginger (i mean, who wouldn't)?, and she was definitely getting ready to gear up for another song - Billy walked straight past her and she looked around in a confused manner before following him off stage. Again, if you think Billy was faking his emotion, then why would he not give the crowd the special treat he had in store for them with Zero and Cherub Rock? Tis a shame that these weren't played because that would have been one of the most kickass encores of all time. Well, Brisbane, you only have yourself to blame. At the end of the show a couple of strange things happened which left me somewhat bewildered. First of all, i received an act of kindness from one of the security guys at the front of the stage - when picks were flying all over the place i was getting somewhat bruised and battered by the eager crowd wanting to get a momento of the occasion - and standing right next to Scotty meant that i would have looked somewhat frail and bedazzled by the whole thing. But anyway, one security guy picked up a pick, and another one spoke to him and asked him to come over and give it to me. I was quite taken aback by this act, especially as how i had been building up a strong dislike for the security so far on this tour. So what now? All the Ozphorians head to the pub for a debrief? Nope, all gotta leave early, so we went our seperate ways. I was much quieter than usual, and i still felt like crying about seeing Billy so unhappy. So then i just happened to be strolling along the road, with Trev giving me an education on the mechanics of concrt sound production. Then all of a sudden, down a ramp comes a vehicle which i immediately pay little attention to, even though it nealy runs us over. It wasn't until i saw the bald head covered in the floppy fishing hat that i realised which car this actually was - there sat Billy with his head slumped on the window looking exhausted, depressed, sad, melancholy, you name it he was lookin it. My heart skipped a beat and i turned to the side to see him go past - and a very cool thing happened - Billy was aroused from his stupor and turned to look at me as he went by. The windows were too dark to see if he reacted further than that, but i took that as a sign that he recognised me. I mean, if i am feeling like shit i just put my head down and dont give a toss who goes by. I might just have hold of myself here, but i would like to think that Billy recognised me, which may not be surprising seeing as how i have been s6talking him the previous 5 days. I would like to think that seeing a fan roused him from that dark place he was in just for that brief moment of recognition, and then maybe he started thinking about the true fan and why he was making music in the first place. But who knows, maybe he was turning round to check out Ginger's legs Thus ended the rollercoaster night in Brisbane. I went back to my hotel not knowing whether to smile or jump out my third floor window. I was still feeling depressed, yet all in all it was a great show, Drown being the highlight of the tour so far, i got a pick and perhaps an acknowledgement from both Billy and Jimmy. It wasn't until a few days later that i started thinking 'you know, that rollercoaster of emotion that i went through actually fits in quite well wih the Pumpkins ideal - sometimes you want to smile, sometimes you want to cry, sometimes you want to laugh, sometimes you want to smash shit up. And at the end of the day it is all about getting the most out of each and every experience that you can, because you just never know when all of this is going to end.

aww that sucks you felt depressed after the show dude, i can relate from similar things happening at other shows i've been to, it's not good when it ends on a sour note. at least you got an experience out of it all, and i'm sure Billy recognised you if he remembered me at V after only being at one previous show. Melbourne had better kick all these other shows asses.

A lotta people have commented how these shows have lost some momentum toward the end. You know, I gotta say, looking at the setlist of this show I can't help but feel it could have been played almost in reverse order. Build up a on a few lesser known songs, get the crowd going with 1979 and Bullet, then keep the momentum going with the next 6 or 7 songs, all of which are quite energetic, and finish with the faves like Mayonaise, Tonight, and Porcelina to bring it on home-any comments?
insanityshorse, I completely agree with you, why would he fake that kinda thing. He and the band put so much work into a show, to try and make it enjoyable for everyone, so to have that happen would be such a slap in the face. I'll join you in that f**k you du8de, even though I wasn't there!

Yeah will be in Melburne - fly out soon and will see you in the lineup no doubt.
That was funny when the security guy checked on me during the show, because i had seen them point at me before the show, say something to each other like i bet that guy will be the first we pull out, then they both laughed. When they checked on me i had my head bowed in a trance and i guess looked all the world like i had just passed out hehe.

Let me just say that I'm from Brisbane and I share your dissapointment at the Brisbane crowd. Still, whether it is Brisbane or Melbourne or New York or Chicago, where there are people, there are dickheads. I was unaware that Billy was going to play two more songs, but makes sense that he didn't. Just a side bit of info for you all, A girl I work with went along to the gig with two other people. Now none of them are Pumpkins fans, in fact none of them are fans of music at all, Triple M / Nova type people. Now the reason they had tickets was because one of their friends worked at Virgin Airlines and on the monday they were giving a whole heap of tickets to the Pumpkins sideshow. May be a bit of a stretch, but I was told there were about 100 tickets being handed out. Now, the above three people all grabbed tickets cause they thought it would be a "fun" night out. The only song they even recognised was 1979. This made me sad. Thought I'd share it with you all. Make of it what you will. It pissed me off. Dan xo

I love bleeding heart internet Pumpkins fans who trash general public crowds. It really makes you look silly.
It is funny that no one has actually mentioned that Billy himself asked the crowd what they wanted to hear. He blatantly did so before playing his first acoustic song (Perfect I think rather than 1979).
I will admit right now I am the wanker who yelled out Stumbeline. It was a joke i discussed with another fan after V Festival in Sydney. Yeah I did two different cities. I am a huge fan so you can't say I just wanted singles or some crap.
Personally any Pumpkins song can play and I am happy, but Billy can't be pissed after he encouraged the behaviour.
After he did this he did the this person wants a B Side rant. I think he deliberately asked the crowd so they would yell so he could have one of his famous rants.
He made his point well. I didn't yell out anymore. But I don't think he was pissed at that point. People really didn't yell much after that, it seemed to be only one tosser.
I think what pissed him off was that one jerk who continued to yell out after that point. He was yelling out every song and Billy told him to shut up. That is what pissed him off.
I also don't think it influenced his decision on the encore. He hasn't played two encores at any show, only one encore. I was personally wrapt that I heard those two new songs. Muzzle is my favourite song by anyone, but I am over not hearing it.
I think Billy was having fun alot, I saw him interact and make eye contact with Jeff and Ginger a few times. He didn't seem pissed off. He does do that angry snarl look on stage, but hey this guy wrote Zero and Bullets.
But onto the concert itself. It was absolutely fantastic, the Pumpkins clearly are the greatest band ever with their depth and range of songs. Hearing Mayonaise and Drown were highlights and Porcelina was such a great opening. Porcelina is such a powerful song and it blew me away.
Everlasting Gaze went off and the heavy version of Ava Adore truly rocked.
I was at V festival in Sydney but Tonight Tonight was so much better in Brisbane, the crowd was really into it and the sound quality was so great. Stand Inside Your Love was one of the best songs at both concerts. Tarantula went off live as well. Then Bullets and 1979 are obvious highlights. I would mention finally hearing Perfect as well, but I think I have named half the set. Truly a fucking special moment in my life.
Being right in front of Billy 3 deep was great too. A true highlight of my life. I doubt Billy reads here but I deeply thank the band for providing me with a moment I never thought I would experience - being at a Pumpkins concert.

Wow, nice review there Joe. I loved the setlist for Brisbane (I was so excited to hear Ava Adore and Rose March), but the energy was a 'lil off.

Well i was feeding from my own energy for the whole night - fuck the crowd, that show was amazing. Thanks heaps for the rapidshare files kasun, although i had to delete the 1979+full rant - it just hurt too much! This was the only pumpkins solo show i've ever experienced, and it didnt disappoint. Starting with Porcelina was just perfect, they had ended their GC V-fest set with Porcelina, so this show just left off where v fest had begun... Before that though, i'd like to apologise for not making the meetup, i had really wanted to but other events meant i couldnt - these events also led me to actually sprinting through Queen St and across the bridge to try to get a half-decent spot in the crowd (which i did ) A lot has already been said, so will just point out a few highlights for me... What a rocking version of Behold! The nightmare... The first notes to this kicked off the tears that barely stopped through the whole gig. So many memories, such beautiful music and lyrics, this night was going to be one to remember. When Bring The Light started it dawned on me how good the Zeitgeist tracks would be live. I'd seen the more popular tracks at Vfest the night before, but Bring The Light was epic! It was a track that i'd previously not really played all that much, but following this gig Zeitgeist is on high rotation and I'm falling in love with the Pumpkins all over again. It's impossible not to mention mayonaise... Am i the only person on here that hadn't heard stellar before??! I'm glad they played it because it gave me a chance to recover from the onslaught of emotion i was facing! - still undecided about the track... The when perfect came on i lost it again... wow. Something i'd always loved with the pumpkins is how the songs sounded in live recordings, and now here i was experiencing it first-hand. It was all too much. Then Lily! What was billy trying to do to me! So i know i said i wasn't going to go through track by track, but its so hard not to... Special mentions to Ava Adore, remember seeing this live on tv on their '98 tour, so was really hoping they'd play it, wow. Drown was a totally unexpected - and brilliant surprise. I had fallen in love with That's The Way.. at Vfest the day before - to me the album doesnt convey how heartfelt that track is, was stoked to hear it again. OK will wind things up, a lot has been mentioned in Ozphoria land about My Blue Heaven, but it's such a beautiful track and it really was a shame for it to be received the way it was... Crush was fantastically awesome also... Was very glad to see them visit Gish and Crush would have been my track of choice, so the tears started once again.... The encore was so-so to me, i hadn't heard I Don't Mind before, and having listened to it since, am still not sold on it. I quite enjoyed Rose March, again, the American Gothic EP hasnt been played much before the concerts but it certainly has since Then, as you all know, it was over. I hung around, trying in vein to get a setlist or to find a pick on the ground, but to no avail. I wandered aimlessly back into the city, stopping on the bridge for quite some time to attempt to take in all that had just happened... So grateful to have experienced it but so sad it was all over. One of the best nights of my life. The Smashing Pumpkins and me

Nope hasn't been released, I was really hoping to see it appear on American Gothic.
Also I've uploaded this little bit of video, its when Billy was frustrated when people kept shouting out requests. You can see from watching this video his frustration ... I missed the next bit when he says "Im just a bald guy with a guitar and whiny voice - what do you want me to do?"
