The alternate version to The Smashing Pumpkins song from the Batman and Robin movie soundtrack, The End is the Beginning is the End, has been used for the first trailer for the movie adaptation of the classic Alan Moore graphic novel Watchmen. The Beginning is the End is the Beginning was found on both the single and soundtrack release for the Smashing Pumpkins song in 1997. Or watch them here: www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/

Wow, haven't given that one a spin in a while
Odd that it got pulled out of the blue for this, i wonder if anyone will think it's a new tune?

Zack Synder on why the song was chosen:
Smashing Pumpkins we picked for a couple reasons. For one, I felt like in mood, it was correct for what we were trying to do. We were trying to sort of get at the unwashed masses who don’t know anything about ‘Watchmen’ and find something provocative that makes you go, ‘What is that?’ … And then, also, I felt like the song itself spoke a little to the ‘Watchmen’ world. And then on the third hand … it will create controversy a little bit in the fanbase because they’re going to be like, ‘Wait, is that going to be in the movie? That ain’t 1985!’

I for one, support TITBITER being used for this.

Just readin on Hipster United that TBITEITB is now #73 on the most downloaded charts on iTunes because of the exposure from that trailer.
I always believed that people had said this band sucks had never truly heard the best of the band cause all they'd heard was the singles. I feel this kind of validates that a little bit.

thats insane that its that high, and you're right. Most people always just never gave the Pumpkins a chance, as for The Beginning is the End is the Beginning - I've always loved this version over the main release and it suits the darker mood for the trailer - its perfect!

it's kind of embarrassing to admit this, but i bought it off itunes over the weekend. i knew there was an alternate version but i didn't realise it was on the single, otherwise i would have bought it off ebay years ago. i think i assumed it was a demo out there that i didn't have... anyway i love it

I dont think anyone was up in arms when NIN was used during 300. "Nine inch Nails didnt exist in ancient Greece" duh Hahahaha, and that song was so amazing with that trailer - it did the exact same thing to me when i watched this Watchmen trailer - awesome with TBITEITB and im so so glad that this song is out there again, its a beautiful song. I actually listen to it every now and then, and also the demo's of TEITBITE. I wonder if BC will make a film clip and break out the one piece wetsuit again, we can only dream. Oh, and how freaking good does that movie look. I guess i should get around to reading the copy of the watchmen that is sitting on our bookshelf! haha.

Did this quote from the rolling stone article that Todd posted make anyone else a little sad, no maybe not sad, left me cold might be a better phrase:
“The Smashing Pumpkins organization is thrilled with the immediate results they have seen for their song ‘The End Is The Beginning Is The End’ being chosen for Watchmen,” says Pumpkins manager Jared Paul. “This is a good example of the future of The Smashing Pumpkins. We are looking for great marketing alliances to support the band’s past and present musical offerings.”
Sounds like he is talking about a company, and not to get the debate started again - i realise that everything is basically a brand these days, and i am glad that BC can control his music more now etc, and the song is amazing with the clip - but still, what strange terms to use in a music media magazine, agree?

yeah its a bit odd indeed ... would be good if he got the song title correct to. It was The Beginning is the End if the Beginning ... somebody fire his ass!

Cranked this yesterday after not listening for ages, i cant say the single has ever been on high rotation amongst my cd collection, but great song i think i probably like it better than teitbite, its so dark and involving.

So with the excitement for the Beginning is the End is the Beginning, the wonderful SPChick reminded me of a certain cover that was performed at a tribute night we held back in 2005. Local Perth artist Clare Nina Norelli (formally nina.x) performed a Tori Amos esque cover of 'The End is the Beginning is the End', you download this here: www.ozphoria.com/?p=290Also a side note, Clare's music is amazing, do check out her myspace too. Oh and Jimmy, I with you, this week has been all about this song for me. Everyday I've listened to it, I love it so much. I don't know if its the gloomy rain we are having at the moment that is adding to my love of the song, but whatever it is ... I have a secret hope that SP decide to play it live ... maybe as a My Blue Heaven replacement, you know the standard "slower" song.

I'm being picky here, but why are TEITBITE and TBITEITB listed as explicit when they don't have a single explicit lyric in them?? I always loved these songs at the time, both for different reasons. TEITBITE was grungy, fast and aggressive, whereas TBITEITB was slower, deeper, darker, more powerful. Really suits the overall tone of Watchmen (what I gathered from the trailer, anyway). I have fond memories of whacking in my TEITBITE CD single in the CD ROM drive while I was playing Hexen on the PC in 97/98. The music suited the game too. Ah, memories (sniff). LOL
