hiya. i have alot of friends on here. (especially josh) and i wanted to address the confusion over my use of the font. after i had made this painting inspired by 60's psychedelic// the movie 'metropolis' and the actual documentary itself.. i was laying type over everything and i had the idea of adding something familiar so that the kind of person who was a fan maybe during high school or something.. the 'mainstream' fan could see something from a distance that screams PUMPKINS. like NIN has one solid font and so do lots of other bands so that when you see that particular font you think of that particular band. so i picked that font that i thought was the strongest. I wanted to get away from the cold vibe of zeitgeist //shepard fairy art and go more back towards the pumpkins vibe that matches the music.. the female/male, anachronistic psychedelic goth vibe. well anyway at the end of the day i had one week to paint the painting do all the rest of the art for the boxset and booklet and layout. aaaaa. i still feel as though i could open up photoshop and tweak it. haha. well anyway... i think people who are casual fans like it..and the hardcore fans are confused. right? but at the end of the day when you have it and are watching it you will love it. its very intimate. billy really let his guard down. and the songs sound beautiful! in 5.1. i think its great that this actually came to fruition right? how are all of you? sunky? bree? josh? kerrie? xxoxo

Hey Linda, thanks for the explanation ... and I guess the use of the does make sense. Its only us hardcore fans that are confused, and the NIN comparison makes a solid point too. I can't wait to see this and yeah I was worried it might fall through ... but so excited its finally happening. PS - Welcome to the board

Hey Linda. I get the reasons for using it, and it suits the image, the anachronism just caught me off guard a little. Great work though, it looks great. Will be so good to finally hear these songs in good quality

Hey Linda,
Thanks for hopping on here to explain it a little further for us. It is really appreciated.
I think for me the main issue I had at first with the font was simply that the band has been so much about moving forward lately, re-interpreting the past and creating a new future and direction, that seeing that font again was a surprise.
But it was a surprise for the same reasons that you used it - if that makes sense. To me it brings back so much of the past SP that in many ways (being a big fan and exposed to so much SP material, news etc) seems so far gone, set never to return. I understand that being a casual fan you will see that font and make the links the way you stated earlier, and that is an understandable response from them. Am i making any sense ?? I have just come out of a 3 hour maths class so i think my brain is a little frazzled.
Anyway, your artwork I love, as always. I understand where you were coming from as to your use of the font - its about SP and their market and their target audience. When you are working for a client you need to think about the clients needs.
Is there much more artwork, or should i say, many different painting featured inside the booklet?
