It is hard to think that it is 10 years old ... but it is true. I've just listened to Machina for the first time in a long time, I still think this is some of Billy's best work. The epic sounds, the dark edge ... this was the band I miss and love.
Machina was the era that, to me, elevated my love of the band and in some way is the era I hold the most special because it is when I met most of the crazy people I call long life friends and one of them a wife.
So Machina ... Happy 10th Birthday!

Machina still remains my favourite pumpkins album. Like sunky said, it raised my appreciation of the band to new levels.
I'm really hoping when we put kaeidascope together it comes out like machina, not in the sound, but in the way machina's songs take you on an emotional ride.
It's one of the few albums that I still listen to from start to finish rather than just adding songs from albums to a playlist.
The artwork and costumes from that time were amazing, and stand inside your love is one of billy's best songs

Yeah, just put it on now. i bought the album in vinyl cause of the artwork! so amazing, the delicate details. Speed kills was a good bonus too!
I love the production of the album, its kind of raw in a similar way to mellon collie except the mood is distinctly different, for the most part anyway. I do miss this era of the band too.

Amazing album, will have to give it a spin today for sure. A very special time.
And where did all that time go? Wasn't it not that long ago we were going 10 yeatrs of MCIS? Wow.

"You're all a part of me now And if I fall You're all a part of me now In the sun You're all a part of me now You're all a part of me now Will our love ever be enough Just in time to prove "
Machina has such an amazing sound. The best by far

Hey guys, new to the board, I hail from Newcastle just down from Sydney.
I love Machina alot... it is just an insane album that I think caught the larger public offguard... i do think their is something lacking about Heavy Metal Machine and The Imploding Voice though, the guitars sound rather muted for the heaviest songs on the album in comparison to something like the Everlasting Gaze.
Does anyone mash their Machina/Machina II playlists on iTunes?

hey mrodsteele, welcome to the board! I agree with you about catching the public off guard. i think people expected a straight ahead rock album, like jimmys return was going to bring a reprise of mellon collie or something. but machina to me was like this weird art-rock-experimental-concept album that i wasnt was expecting. i totally love it and think it is a masterpiece, i chuck it on the turntable often.

What makes Machina special for me is the ideas. Machina was intended to be something of a concept album - despite the record company's desire for Billy not to do another double album. The songs come together really well and the lyrics are some of my favourite. It is hard to choose favourites amongst the songs but I will mention 'Glass and the Ghost Children' and 'I of the Mourning' as two that I especially enjoy.

What are your thoughts on Billy's facebook stats of the last show at the metro 10 years on. It was interesting to see what he said about James.!! "Someone" saying he just left without a good bye.!!!

Yeah James and Billy didn't get along for quite a while before the break up of the band. I remember Billy saying that he never knew what James' issue with him was and he pleaded with him to tell him but he never did.

I've been watching the SP documentaries on "thepumpkins.net" the last couple of days ( Storytellers, adore, Machina and Graceful Swans Of Never ) and noticed that in Adore and Machina Billy seemed pretty positive about the band, band members......... the same as now.!!! Maybe it was just for the cameras. I really like looking back at the good old days.!!! Wish they released them on DVD.!!!!
