So JC announced his new band aaaaaaaaaaaages ago but so far it's been over a year and nothing has surfaced, I figured maybe it dissolved or he's taking a year off. But I got bored and did a bit of googling and found footage of a drum clinic he played last year, he played along to a backing track from his new band... I dig it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-h0EbE5IlAHopefully there'll be some more news soon

Bought the record on iTunes, listening now.
Track 1 "Capsized Jackknife Crisis" sounds like Tonight Tonight's drums with a new song on top. Almost like a mishmash of that and "Sound Of Love" from LICD. Track 2 "No One Can Tell" is better than the preview suggests. Track 3 "Tightrope Situation" is Beatlesy - think "Fool on the Hill" Track 4 "Great Civilizations" (title track) sounds Arcade Firey. Cool solo. I kind of dislike the chorus. Track 5 "All I Hear Is Snow" confuses me... it sounds like it's in 6/8 at the start and then moves into 4/4... but it must just be triplet feel at the start. Nice enough track I guess. Mellotrons in the chorus. Track 6 "Sad Reasons" has Mellotron strings all over, and oddly not very much of a drum part.
Overall vibe... JC + Arcade Fire + LICD + Beatles?! Oh, and "Love Is Real" from the JCC album is similar in vibe too I guess...
Tracks 2, 3 and 6 are clearly the strongest songs IMHO. Best drumming on either 1 or 2.
Oh, and the vocalist sucks and so do the lyrics.

I was bored listening to this, at no point was there any moment that made me go "oh yeah I see what they are trying to do"
For me if Jimmy wasn't involved, I wouldn't have got past the first 2 songs. I'm going to give it a fair chance and have a few more listens, but overall a) it wasn't what I was expecting b) it just seems so middle of the road.

To be honest, yep. Same. But the tracks that didn't seem quite as much like.... drum tracks, and then annoying music, disjointed from each other but playing simultaneously... are the songs that I mentioned above. 2, 3 and 6.

Well that's a bit lame, I don't have iTunes (and I intend on never having to use it or have the program grace my PC) so I figured i'd grab it from Amazon... US only. Arghhh. I wanna hear it, terrible or otherwise!

No need, someone on Netphoria "hooked" everyone up On first listen I really like this... the guy's voice really isn't that bad, this music (and vocals) kind of sounds like Teenage Fan Club on steroids to me. If this music were backed by any other drummer I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much cause JC's drumming style really pushes and drives these songs and as a whole (to me) it sounds really good! I wanna hear more from This, and also wishing for more Complex! I hope JC hasn't put that band to bed already.

Well it appears Billy was the ONLY creative force at the pumpkins. THIS is unfortunate.
