This is where all of your off-topic banter goes when it doesn't belong in other threads.
If you have a random thought or a question for someone on the board that doesn't warrant a Private Message etc. this is the palce to post it.

Me first, me first. Ok here is the dilema. I am trying to catalogue a lot of my Pumpkins and Manics stuff. I am looking at discographies including eil.com, and i am looking up my Promo single of 'Untitled' ( eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=199892) and i see that there is also a mispressed copy that has three tracks but looks exactly the same as the 1 track ( eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=206428) but my copy is sealed.....its a lame question to ask....but should i open it or keep it sealed? btw. this is the perfect thread for this question, thanks bree

yeah, surprisingly they dont actually even have this promo edition listed. It is legit, but they only have the single listed. There is no way to tell if it is the misprinted edition unless i slit open the plastic and pop the cd in the player....i think i might do it.

The easiest way to check would be to see whether it says 'Made in the EU' or 'Made in the UK'. The misprint is labelled EU and the regular one UK from what I can figure out. So don't open that yet!
I'll check ours at home too!

just cos i'm a lovely guy and like to keep topics ON topic.. here we go: Since Bree and I are on macs (both home and at work) we don't deal with the world of virus' at all (yay!). i never knew that why's that? Its got to do with how the operating system was first created. Microsoft took the cheap option, in the days before the internet this was fine, as you would never be connected to other computer there was no threat. But with the internet came this new threat, anti-virus companies have now been set up and without this threat they would be out of business. So the rumor always is that they are the main cause of most virus's. Anyway yeah with a Mac is got to do with the Unix based system doesn't allow any new software to be installed without you authorising it first. Also when you install software onto a PC it set up a shitload of .dll files in a common files area, however when you remove software it doesn't always remove these common files and this is how you can end up with a trojan etc. On a mac all software files are in your applications folder and what you delete gets removed. Also with a mac you can't run .exe files, which on a PC can run without the user activating the software. All software files come as .dmg or other formats that need to you authorise and activate to install. There is a lot more technical reasoning for it, but yeah basically Apple saw the future way before Microsoft. The thing is now Microsoft are so invested in how their system is set up that they can't simply get out of it. They are trying with Vista, but even that doesn't stop virus's anywhere close to the Apple OS. www.apple.com/getamac/viruses.html

bree was mean to me at lunchtime and said my winging about josh changing his name was off topic for a conversation about love when i love josh.. well, if you'd told Josh about your love for him, then it'd be all good. But since you didn't then the Off-Topic police had to pay a visit. Might go find that Untitled single and open him up! No use keeping it sealed. Can't imagine us ever selling our SP stuff and life is short so we may as well use it.

a few points: 1. I really want a mac. and no viruses would be just unbelievable. Just the virus protection gives me the shits popping up all the time, but i am thankful everytime it does. 2. Bree, go for it. I will if you will I was just thinking the same. Its not as if i will ever sell it, im not one of those people to really keep things mint. I have them because i like them, not because they will be worth a shit load of money when i am 80. 3. i can really feel the love on this forum

hmm not sure if Autocad is available for Mac. But on the new Intel Macs you can run Boot Camp or Parallels and that allows you switch between Windows and Mac on the one machine. My Dad's got it (so just Josh i think?) and works great. So Dad uses all his boring accounting software in Windows and then when he needs to access the net and download stuff he flicks over to Mac OS and then that way he stays virus free, plus being able to use all the iLife software. and Foxy - i know Mac users can't shutup ... we just love the fact things work!

My mate Evan has got a dual chip, been doing just that. (Although he's an avid PC over MAC type ot guy) He's been running Win. and OS, I was impressed

yes, i'm running bootcamp with windows vista, vista runs great. so fast. but i'm going to take it off, i only did it to see what vista was like. the only bad thing about runnning Parallels is the lack of 3D support in vista i think, and MAYBE XP. but Parallels is great for running both OS's at the same time, where with bootcamp you have to reboot to select your OS.

Scotty, the makers of programs like AutoCad and 3DMax don't produce software for Mac... for some reason they seem to think that Mac usage is a fad. Go figure. pffft. But there are comparative programs for 3D modelling etc. which work blisteringly well on the Mac system. But yeah, the only way to use AutoCad etc. right now until these software developers get a reality check is to run Parallels.

I'm thinking of upgrading my Nokia 7370 for a Nokia 6288 on 3's 29.90 cap plan.
Anyone have any experience with this phone or with 3?

Im with three vic, I'm happy with them, they roam with telstra so the coverage is good enough outside of the three network. They are good cause they set it up straight away for direct debit and i dont even get a paper bill, it all comes off my credit card and i dont have to do anything. I think they are the most technologically savvy of the mobile providers ive been with. The online aspect allows you to do plenty of things that telstra and vodaphone (the only other people ive been with) wouldnt. Also watching the cricket and highlights of sport for 5 bucks a month is cool. Yeah very happy with three.
Im also on the 29 cap and i find it sufficiant and i'm making $35 payments on my Nokia N91 8 gig with out being hassled. Big fan of 3.

I'm doing direct debit payments now with Dodo Mobile (which I've been more than happy with - and not just saying that cos I work there!) and it's totally the way to go.
My boyf has 3 and their web access is awesome. We can check the weather radar before going out for a ride (didn't help us on the weekend though when it started pouring on the way to Ballarat!)
I'd prefer to get the N80, but I don't want to pay for it. Heh. The 6288 is free with the 29 cap.

i've got the n80 its awesome - but its not worth paying for
it costs me $25/wk for phone payments and a 49$ cap on optus optus's internet is slow and their news page is crappy. I haven't yet succeded in doing a video call.
However on the plus side it has a good interface when you put music on to and off your computer, and the photos are 3.2 mp which is good quality, and you can do things like change exposure and use black and white, sepia etc. I also recorded a +live+ concert that i went to for 1.5hrs while the phone was in my pocket, and it came out great quality (i had to use the video camera tho)
it has a great calender too, its like a pda.
but yeh its really expensive
