so it looks like im going over to the dark side. im sick of the stupid command/control buttons on a mac, but have to use it at uni, so figure i may as well try and get used to it. choice is between the 3 different 15" macbook pros. store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_prooption 1: 15-inch: 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 A$ 2,499.00 option 2: 15-inch: 2.53GHz Intel Core i5, with hires gloss screen. A$ 2,426.00 option 3: 15-inch: 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 with hires screen gloss, and 500gb hard drive A$ 2,352.99 what do people think is the best option? and is the apple care and all that crap really worth the rediculous amounts of money? $500+ for additional 2 years of warranty?! and i really hate how much the extras cost. $140 to go from 320 to 500gb. what a load of shit, let alone an additional $508 to go from 2x2 gig sticks of ram to 2x4 gig. for those prices i want to get additional things, like the 320 hard drive, and the 2x2 gig sticks of ram, not just swap them. as you can tell, im hating myself for getting a mac

option 2 is good, make sure you get the student discount price! Also check the refurb store: store.apple.com/au/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=OTY2ODY3NwThese are ones that have come in for repair, Apple repair with new parts but can't sell for full price. We always get out stuff from there and they end up being cheaper, but come with all the full warranty etc.

We get it when we can afford too, but yeah you have 12 months after the purchase to extend your warranty for another 2 years is it? It is worth it incase something does go wrong.

i think im going for the i7 2.66 mbp with the hires antiglare screen. i had a look at the refurb store, but none had the hires screen i was after. i guess its just another thing i hate about apple, when you have companies like asus 2 year world wide warranty, and extended costs nothing like the quarter of the price the apple 2 years extended warranty costs. or stuff like canon cameras. everything about apple is expensive im hoping it turns into a love hate relationship, cos atm its one a bit too one sided

I bought my computer from the refurb store, absolutely brilliant.. Hasn't missed a beat and I to be honest I was happier with the older model because it was before they had integrated graphics/ram...
I didn't get apple protection though...
My work just bought me an eePC/Netbook thing as a gift because I've been working so much and I said I was going to get one for when I go to Europe... I know I use windows every day at work, but I forgot how much it sucks trying to use it at home.

i bought a macbook from jbhi fi got extra discount as the box had been opened once it wasnt a dosplay model tho , the hard drives are fairly easy to diy upgrade theres lotsa videos /tutorials on the net , ram is easy too as long as you replace both chips at once

so after having this for a fortnight or so now, im still yet to see what the awesomeness is about when it comes to macs. the only real thing i love is the battery life, and the weight. but even those and everything else you can get on a windows pc when you spend $2700 on a laptop. So its nice, i just dont see whats so awesome yet and as for the once you go mac you never go back, i can see why, its such a pain in the arse trying to relearn all the basics with a mac that you dont wanna have to do it again when you go back to a windows pc. but maybe ill turn into an apple fan boy like everyone else who has one.
