Ok this one is a bit of a leap from "spotting" but..
I was talking to my co-worker Sam (from silverchair) about Melissa Auf der Maur, then we got onto the Pumpkins, and the drug problems etc.. And he goes "Yeah I met Jonathan Melvoin.. he was one of my idols"..
Blearghh my head exploded.

I was watching this program on the social history of the mosh pit ... interesting to watch .. and it had a snippet of Billy asking people not to mosh at a gig.

Last night at Champagne Comedy, during the breaks the sound guy played Today. It was totally unexpected and totally awesome.

Okay, complaint withdrawn. I saw 1979 being played - one video. That's a pretty poor effort, come on MusicMax!

I saw a guy at Homebake wearing a Pumpkins shirt. I told him his shirt was very cool and ended up having a lovely chat with him about the pumpkins and big day out.

One of the perks of covering reception is that you get to listen to the radio, anyway its on Triple M and they are counting down 2005 songs or something and guess what comes on?
Zero I think it came in at like 1019 or something.. I wasnt really paying attention.
so I'm having a little rawk out behind the reception desk.. kinda silly really, cos my Ipod is right next to me and I could listen to the song several times over. But hearing them on the radio still makes me squee with joy,

well im reading Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis, he talks about when they are on tour with the pumpkins. he says that billy is the obvious leader, james is really shy, d'arcy was crazy and that if Ant wasnt clean during that time he would have spent all his time with Jimmy, and said that Jimmy was out of control on drugs. He also said that Billy copped alot of bad press and was really nice and easy to get along with, and also that billy was an awesome basketball player.
He mentions that the reason the pumpkins toured with them is because he heard a song called "gish" on mtv and asked the band manager to get them on tour. (Poor ant obviously cant remember song titles to well, but he does like the pumpkins none the less.) Also the reason why they left the tour was cause Nirvana came on, cause originally the tour went Pearl Jam first, then the pumpkins, then the peppers. So when nirvana came on it was ment to be Pearl Jam that got booted, but Billy said fuck off and pearl jam stayed and opened for nirvana, and the peppers.
Id just like to say how great it would have been to see one of those shows from that tour. While im not the biggest PJ fan it was a mouth watering lineup.

i thought it was great. Very interesting, very frustrating cause he relapses on drug use so many times that it just gave the the shits... Its an excellent read though.

Cool, well I'll check it out once I've gone back home, worked a bit and gotten some more cash. Oh, and after I finish reading Tales Of A Scorched Earth and Dream Brother.

Dream Brother is a fantastic read also. I cried at the end of it, his death was so avoidable.

Just watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch and there was a HUGE SP reference!!! Sabrina was going to go to a Smashing Pumpkins concert, but she got grounded, so wasn't allowed to go. So she sneaked out of the house (on a flying vaccum cleaner no less) and 'Tonight Tonight' started to play over the top and Sabrina goes: "Billy Corgan, here I come!". Awesome stuff!! I love it when I get surprised like that!!!

I was listening to Jay and the Doctor this morning on JJJ as I woke up and they were getting people to call up and tell them what they thought the deadly sins of rock and roll are.
So some people called up and said that tambourines are a deadly sin, etc.
Then some chick called up and said that it's a sin for bands to do too many encores at a gig. She said she went to a Pumpkins show and they apparently did seven encores and by the end of it she said she was just bored.
Firstly - what an idiot! As if you'd complain about getting to see the Pumpkins for an extended period of time.
Secondly - as if they would have played SEVEN encores... I think someone was slightly exaggerating. They didn't even play that many at the final show... Pfft.
