The Smashing Pumpkins currently recording new single. The Smashing Pumpkins are back in the studio recording a new single (reported earlier) that will be available this September. The new single will be titled G.L.O.W. and is the first studio effort from the band since the American Gothic sessions. The has been no word on the style or arrangement of the song at this time. www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_4817So what does G.L.O.W stand for? ... Quick check on Acronym finder gave me this: GLOW Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling GLOW Gays and Lesbians of Waterloo GLOW Girls Leading Our World GLOW Gross Lift-Off Weight GLOW Giving and Learning Our Way (youth volunteer group) GLOW Greater Leadership Opportunity for Women

I couldn't help but roll my eyes when the usual suspects started crapping on it just because of it's name alone. Gotta love those "fanz" eh?
Personally I can't wait. He could call it first dump of the day as far as I'm concerned. If it sounds good I'm in.

haha! agreed. Imagine if we all found out they were naming a song Mayonaise ... and we all thought "wtf?!?!" ... you can't judge a song by the name alone.

Does anyone remember the band GLU? You should they were on the For the Masses tribute. God Lives Underwater.
Maybe he emerged from the depths and now God Lives Over Water...

Ahh... the SG bass. A strange animal indeed. Ok, so the SG bass there has a humbucker pickup in the bridge position, which means it'd be a higher output for a possibly dirtier, growlier sound. It's not the kind of bass you'd use on a nice light poppy song. On the other hand it also has the single coil at the neck... so it might be a nice smooth round sound. We can't really tell. I can't make out the pickup switch. The fact that there's a pick sitting on it makes me think it's a grittier kind of sound, and on the bridge pickup, though.
I'm honestly more interested in what pedal is on the floor there that it's running into. Can't think of anything that looks quite like that, but my bet is a distortion box of some kind?
Sennheiser MD421's on toms, nothing else really visible in the drums picture. Looks like an SM57 on snare drum. All pretty standard stuff, I'd love to know what's inside the kick though!

For some reason I expect the new Pumpkins sound to be akin to stuff like Gossamer, Ma Belle and Stellar. That seems to be were the band's heart is at the moment. Bring it on. Can't wait!

and to get this back on topic. News update about the single! www.ozphoria.com/?p=294There has been more news about the release the future release of the song G.L.O.W and also hints to how we will see future releases from the Smashing Pumpkins. SP.com revealed that the upcoming single from the Smashing Pumpkins will be a stand-a-alone single and not tied to any future album releases. This would be similar to the release of Superchrist (2007) earlier this year, past releases like Daughter (1992) and even the 1997 soundtrack release of The End is the Beginning is the End. SP.com also reported that: “The next album will be worked on over along period of time, but that doesn’t mean new music won’t be coming out from the band during this period. Other “singles” not related to the album, such as G.L.O.W., may find their way to the public in one way or another.” Also it was reported earlier this week that GLOW would appear on the Guitar Hero World Tour release ... but the guy since edited his report. This is what it said: "The Smashing Pumpkins were in the studio last week with engineer/producer Bjorn Thorsrud and Ardent’s Jason Latshaw, Mike Wilson, and Carter McHann. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain were here working on a new song, entitled “G.L.O.W.,” to be released through the Guitar Hero franchise." www.ardentmusic.com/blog/2008/07/smashing_pumpkins_at_ardent.htmlBut Guitar Hero isn't set to be out until late October and the band have been saying GLOW will be out in September, so no doubt we'll see it on iTunes or something before it ends up on GH.
