I posted on the o-board about this ... who saw this coming? ANYONE?
Shall be interesting, Im excited to hear what its like and if people dig it ... I can see it being similar to James' solo work, which will excite most people I reckon.

I'm quietly excited about this. Go James! ISn't Taylor Hanson someone who has played music his whole life? I'm looking forward to seeing what he contributes to this actually, can't really view him at the little kid in his pop group anymore.
And an Album in April, won't be long!

wow.. even with a billion tries, i never would have guessed this line up! REAL keen to hear what they sound like - wish the gig wasn't a month away! and the 10-year-old in me may or may not be excited about the prospect of hearing mature hanson vocals.. ahaha

My first thought was "Oh were the Jonas Brothers not available?" but now I'm looking forward to hearing. It's a weird bunch of people, maybe weird enough to work.

i just saw news of this on the pumpkins website.
how funny is James' t-shirt, what a shit stir! lol

Post by sunky on Feb 22, 2009 19:45:27 GMT 7
its not a stir by James (just clearing that up for anybody else) ... its a tshirt designed by Bono, it was for a charity or something and bunch of celeb's wore the 'one' tshirt. (I think it was chosen by Simon on SP.com as a bit of a joke though )

wow, who could have ever seen this coming!? I am so curious to hear them. James is awesome. Between James and Taylor Hanson, they should get some good falsetto going

i don't mind 'Kind Of A Girl'. actually makes me think of the band 'Hole' for some bizarre reason.. interested to hear what the other tunes sound like

It's pretty poppy, not usually the kind of thing I'd be into, but it left a better first impression than FOL.

Whose solo? Sounds like there's a small stone on there, Mayo styley.
Tambourines remind me of "The Boy".
Imagine it with clean guitars instead of distorted, and James instead of Taylor. It practically IS "The Boy".
I don't think it's overly out of left field for James.
That said, I'm not a huge fan.

I don't mind it. Very listenable. Breezy kinda pop rock. I can hear what people are saying with both Hole (I'm thinking circa Celeb Skin) and The Boy. However, the vocals are annoying me. I wasn't biased against it being a Hansonite (if anything that was a plus in my sentimental mind), but I'm finding the vocals a bit sickly sweet.

Reminds me of Imperial Teen, that bubble gum pop rock. The sound doesn't surprise me at all, it is the kind of thing we know James likes. Power Pop. I could see myself listening to this.

Listening to it again, does the first 10 seconds or so sound like a cleaner version of Kool Thing - Sonic Youth?

Not too bad for what it is.
The funny thing is, If the Jonas Brothers or someone like that puts this out, it's a hit single (And the alternative masses pay no mind/laugh at it) But If a group like this puts it out, that top 40 demographic don't give it a second glance.
Bordering on a genralisation and probably pointless i know, but do you know what i'm saying?

I really like it. Also seem to be really popular on a few other forums I frequent. Miles ahead of anything ol' man Corgan has put out recently...
