for what that is, and what you do, its not that expensive. its usually a 4 hour drive from Vegas to the canyon... in this tour you fly... so yeah i think its pretty good value. plus the north rim is meant to be more spectacular than the south (where most people go to).
and yes i'm planning to go to the hard rock cafe.
soooooo i've been researching some cameras... i want to do video... specifically HD video... but i dont want to take too much gear with me... i found the Sony cybershot t-500 its a nice little point and shoot, and takes some pretty awesome HD video footage, i've been looking at that online on vimeo... but nowwww a friend has suggested a canon G10 powershot... not a bad little camera for the price.... do i get this sony one that does HD video or spend a bit more and get this nice little canon one for AWESOME photos.... i'm stuck as to what to do....

i'm kinda the same deal. i have a canon 400d, which takes great photos for me. but i want HD for europe, so i'm thinking of getting the 500d just before i leave, with 2 new lenses. which will cost about $2300. IS VIDEO WORTH IT? so help me out, and help josh out. are videos worth it? Travelling in a group in europe last time we ended up with 16 hours of footage and have a 4dvd box set was awesome. but travelling alone, what can you really shoot with the video? the G10 is a good camera, but no video at all on a P+S is a massive fail. also, depending on what you wanna shoot, its 5x zoom, but wide angle, so gets to 28mm, so the zoom wont be that far as compared to if it was a non wide angle 5x zoom. Kristen was using one on the pumpkins tour when down here, well, i think she had the G9.

if you're going to spending that much money get the canon 5D mark 2!! it does HD video and yeh is a shitbang camera!! haha. but i guess you want to get some lenses too, the 500d looks nice too, and yes it does HD video. The main thing for me is taking all that equipment with me... camera, video, laptop.... but i think i get a Point and shoot that does good video... and not take a video camera, and not take a laptop... just buy a bunch of 16BG SD cards, they're cheap!! but, i REALLY like these 2 cameras. the G10 is really nice, the body is awesome and looks good to hold and the pictures it takes can be awesome. same with the LX3, body is not as good as the G10, picture quality is a bit under G10, but it takes the 1280x720 video.... If you're looking for comparisons on video quality, go to www.vimeo.com and search for the modem, and you can see all the tests. I think also, some good little hand held HD video cams are the Sanyo Xacti HD800's they're about $500 but small and compact, and the video quality is quite good.

choice did a test in their latest issue and the lumix was their best, with the G10 next. the 5dm2 is $3500 body only and thats at those foreign import websites. and i'm taking a laptop with me anyway, as i'm shooting an reviewing festivals, so need access to net and a computer where i can edit pics. edit: vimeo had some quality 500d vids, was cool to see!

i think i'm going to lean towards the Lumix for the HD video. i've been reading reviews on that site all morning at work i might go to Michaels/Teds in Elizabeth St today as well to have a look and play. oh ok, a bit more than $2300 for the 5D hahaha... yeh then go for the 500D, they look awesome. If I just had that extra cash i would get one of those. and if i were to get an SLR in the next year it would be that one.

that'd have to be a plus while travelling. then again, its not like you'll be camping or not near power for a while. it doesnt get the best write up. 'just' gets a 'recommended' Conclusion - Pros * Good resolution, Good color * Generally accurate focus gives a high 'hit rate' even in auto mode * Huge photographic versatility with 28-560mm lens and super macro mode * Image stabilization works very well (and can be used in movie mode) * Fast continuous shooting mode (with AF off) * 1080p (1920x1080) HD video recording at 30 fps * Good movie quality with high quality stereo sound * RAW shooting for more control over image processing * Solid construction and good handling * Fast and responsive * Impressively low distortion for such a large lens * SD card slot moved back to a location accessible while on a camera tripod * Enjoyable and easy to use * Good screen, bright and clear with full tilt & swing articulation * Customizable shortcut button, ISO button * Good macroConclusion - Cons * Noise and noise reduction effects visible at anything over ISO 80 * Noise reduction starts to destroy fine detail at anything over ISO 100 * ISO 800 and 1600 very noisy and of limited use * Lens is prone to chromatic aberration and purple fringing * Movie button in awkward position for some people * Electronic viewfinder may be improved, but it's still not fantastic and is bettered by cheaper SX10 IS * Focus hunts in low light situations and at the longer end of the zoom range * Expensive * No rechargeable batteries supplied in the box * Metering tends to clip highlights in contrasty situations, not helped by limited dynamic range"at the moment it's impossible to see why you would buy one over the SX10 IS."

Welll pretty much everywhere is sold out of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3's... but i held the G10 today, and man it feels good!! Well i took some test shots with the G10 and the LX2 (similar to LX3) and i'll have a look at home tonight on the SD card i took in and make a decision.

Ok, so if the SX1's a no because of those points boelsen, what about the SX10? That's the upgrade of the S5 which I'm rather happy with.

the G10 is a good camera, but no video at all on a P+S is a massive fail. I also fail to see which orifice you pulled this little fact out of? All canon p+s have video. The G10 just doesn't do *HD* video.

wow, dude, ease up. take a breathe. in. out. now repeat. Hows that feeling? Better isnt it. I think thats the best way to start a day. ya know, just wake up, lay there for a few minutes, and breathe in and out. maybe even try a smile. who knows. worth a shot though isnt it. I reckon you should even try before bed. i think the nightmares would probably stop for a while. but i cant guarentee this sort of stuff. let me know if you're actually still reading now now onto your replies. I would ahve thought the quote i have already used would sum up your first comment: "at the moment it's impossible to see why you would buy one over the SX10 IS." i dont see how i can say it any different than the dude who wrote the review on dpreview.com. Why would you buy a sx1 when the older sx10 is still available and from what they say, a better overall camera. as for the second comment. you are correct. i misread that on josh's post. i will kill myself now so i never make a mistake in your presence ever again.

^lmao
personally i'd go for something that takes great photos over video, but that's just me. especially if you're by yourself, how many times are you gonna sit down and re-watch the footage you took? i think photos are the kind of thing you'd go back to more often.

wow, dude, ease up. take a breathe. in. out. now repeat. An issue in my current state (sick/cranky). Apologies if I forgot to add enough smileys... Actually, released in parallel. The SX1 is the one with HD video, the SX1 is the cheaper, more photo-oriented version. I'm guessing both are better than the S5 which I am very happy with. Remember, with seppuku you have to *twist*!

i have more awesome news - i was contacted by one of the editors for Faster Louder saying they'd be interested in me doing a snapshot gallery for the site for the ND tour. for now i think my photo pass is supposed to be specifically for my site/ND.com, but at least there'd be other tour related pics i could submit, and it'd encourage more discussion about the band in here and with casual fans which is good. ahhh so cool.

Wow Bec, that is all great news! I hope you have a blast shooting the gig. Is it still just for the first 3 songs, or is it for the whole gig because it is for your/their site and not a magazine?

NZ should be awesome steve i wanna go later in the year, only hear good things about that place Bec, not rock werchter, though it is an amazing line up, i'm trying for roskilde which is at the same time, but werchter has sold out anyways still so much i need to buy still for tomorrow when i leave.. mainly the lens/es! I decided against the 500d, dont think apart from the HD, its a big enough upgrade in the rest of the camera part.
