It reminds me of the folky Zwan outtakes ... I kind of like it a lot.

Well 2011 isn't that long away ... we've got 13/14 months until it is 2011 (going from the Halloween start date). 11 releases ... I love Corgan, but he isn't going to get 1 out a month. I'll claim it now. The FINAL release will come out on March 17th 2011. Corgan's 44th Birthday. BOOM! Haha, hopefulness shattered! cottonwood is pretty

hey, it's not march 17 yet, it could still happen. the flaw in your prediction was supplying a year.

Well I kind of had to use that year as Corgan only turns 44 once ... unless he stops aging from now on.

Q & A from Nicole's Facebook page: xocoleyf.blogspot.com/2011/02/my-q.htmlQ: What do you think about teargarden by kaleidoscope, is it better than other works of SP? A: I am really attached teargarden. obviously since i am involved in it. but i do think it holds its own (espeically the upcoming songs) with billys archive.

I listened to it initially as an old school pumpkins fan and was a little disappointed.
After that i decided to give it the respect it deserves, and i am anything but disappointed. The song has a fresh energy to it, and imo fits in perfectly with the tbk theme and sound, especially The Fellowship.
I love that intro, makes you sit up and pay attention from the get-go. Only negative would be the synths get a little lost during the initial phases, but come into their own as the guitars die down just before Billy starts the first verse.
I like the chugging guitar during the first verse, especially the changes in tone which towards the end remind me of The Aeroplane Flies High. The lyrics aren't spectacular for this verse, but it does set the song up as a journey beginning with hope: 'into great unknowns, i stumble brightly".
The song picks up nicely on the second verse, gathering momentum and speed, and the lyrics develop poetically: "sunflowers as/and teacher's pets, beg/banned for/from lightning".
The chorus is quite catchy, and backing vocals are good. At first i thought the backing vocals didn't sound quite right, that Billy was singing over the top of them with a different lyric, but on closer inspection the backing vocals sing half of Billy's previous line, then switch to blend in with Billy as he sings the new line. I think that is very clever and unique and adds further depth to the lyrics.
I think the title of Lightning Strikes is actually a good one. In this context it can have many meanings - as a flash of inspiration, as an awakening from obscurity/naievity, or for the pangs of love. Either way, a lightning strike is a powerful force, and i believe this song fits well with that theme, especially the way it builds to a climax towards the finale.

I'll be honest, after a few weeks of listening ... not a huge fan of Lightning Strikes. If it wasn't SP, I wouldn't have given it a second listen.
However, how I see it is as a song that isn't stand-out. It sit well (for me) next to the other TBK songs and suits the tone of the others, but by itself I find it a little bland and 'commercial radio' rock.

Don't think it will happen anytime soon, from all reports they are a happy foursome. So your options are: 1. Live with it 2. Live with it 3. Live with it 4. All of the above

I'm thinking (hoping, wishing, praying) something Gish related. 20th anniversary is this year, Billy has the rights to the songs and all other material etc ... I really hope there is something special happening for the album. Even just a double CD version released ... anything!
But maybe just some tour announcement of something.

Yeah Gish reissue would be pretty nice too. Some live stuff from the period wouldn't go astray. What ever happened to the archives project, did that one die completely?

@bilyl: Sorry for my delay on the 'big announcement', waiting for some documents to be signed before I can go public. Has not dimmed my enthusiasm.
So what documents is this mofo signing?

My guess is he is getting the rights to more SP stuff, getting things agreed with James, D'Arcy and Jimmy ... so they can start releasing the vaults.
