I hope they change the setlist up a bit, there hasn't been much variation on this tour.

OMG They played Reptile by The Church...one of my favourite songs!!! I couldn't believe my ears when Jeff started playing the intro lick, in fact I thought they were just teasing again...but no they played it all and they played it bloody well!! I think Billy was expecting it to be more of hit with the crowd seeing as it is by a well-known Australian band, but unfortunately no one seemed to know what it was. Not that it bothered me, I absolutely loved it! Good setlist too, obviously pretty compressed due to time constraints, but we got Hummer!! Now I am going to go collapse into bed lol! Edit: The Sabbath song is played during the Britney Spears parody if I'm not mistaken, I don't know which song it is though.

^hehehe, that was funny-"they were an Aussie band, weren't they?"...I really enjoyed the show actually, the sound was excellent, and Hummer was just awesome. The highlight was United States though. That was the best performance of that I've heard! I actually had to jump the fence, cause the meat headed security dudes weren't letting anyone in!

Despite how sore I am from being in the thick of the mosh from the start of Queens (who were fantastic!) I am way too amped to sleep. I have to say that the V Festival sound was a lot better than the Hordern. It just seemed to have a lot more clarity and billy wasn't getting lost in the mix as he did a few times on Thursday when the band was really winding up. I agree that United States was amazing tonight, with Billy standing up just above the crowd during the solo, holding a salute...priceless. It was a festival crowd so I was expecting to see the meatheads out in force. There were quite a few towards the front, but they only really got annoying when they tried to mosh to songs like Tonight Tonight (now how does that song call for that kind of thing?). Plus idiots yelling out during songs just pisses me off. Billy is trying to play That's The Way and these bogan idiots are yelling out (where's the electric, come on play zero!). Grrr. But that was to be expected I suppose and really there wasn't too much of that going on. The mosh itself wasn't to bad, compared to QOTSA, which was actually pretty brutal, lots of people pushing back and forth, although they were fun to rock out with when they actually focused on the music . Anyway I was blown away by the Pumpkins both nights I saw them, they truly are amazing performers and I can not wait for them to come back to Sydney!

Tonight cemented the fact that United States is truly the most boring song ever. I wished they cut that shit out and played some other stuff instead. I'd love to hear more of their charming acoustic songs. I was really disappointed the setlist was so similar. I hate the way there was so little variation between the songs, they were either heavy electric or acoustic. I wanted to hear more of their electronic stuff from Adore or Machina. They could have easily played Perfect with the keyboard. Also, why don't they seem to play Quiet anymore, that would have driven the crowd wild.
If they had to play new stuff live, I would have loved to hear Stellar. I think these two concerts made me realise I really don't like the new Pumpkins music.

Hey, I agree with you there on a few of your comments, todaysquitet. First of all I would like to say that United States was one of my favourites at the Hordern Pavillion, except I do find the solo in the middle of the song quite boring. It's boring because it goes on for ages, you cant really mosh to it or anything, all you can do is stand and watch. Which I'm alright for, except that it really hurt my ears when the guitar was screeching for at leat 5 mins straight. With that aside, I enjoy United States live because it has so much energy in it at the beginning and the end, and its really awesome to be in the mosh to it. How great was the part that everyone stopped playing and it was just guitar and drums? And everyone was saying "HEY!" between them. Really fun I also agree about Smashing Pumpkins' new music. When I first heard the songs off Zeitgeist, I was extremely dissapointed. I enjoyed all previous Smashing Pumpkins songs because they all have feeling and depth, while Zeitgeist to me didnt seem like it had any guts to it at all. Although, I did really enjoy hearing Bring the Light, Cmon Lets Go, Thats The Way My Love Is, Tarantula and United States live. As I said earlier, hearing them live was awesome because it had all this energy, energy that I dont believe was there on the Zeitgeist record. On a different note, did anyone else read that the V fest was running on a loss yesterday? It was in the newspaper this morning. Its because it was over 18's. I know a lot of people my age that would have loved to go . I would have been there like share-ware.

There is a small guitar tease that sounds like the riff of Black Sabbath sort of, Im not a huge Sabbath fan, but if it is that part it goes for about 30 seconds and then leads into Pieces of Me from Britney.

I respect opinons, as I hope you respect mine, but seriously, you ae kidding me aren't you? Energy not in Zeitgeist? No guts, and no feeling in Zeitgeist? OMG! This album has more than Machina I & II put together! To me, it is the closest thing to MCIS than anything, with depth, versatility, guts and glory - especially when you throw in the +bonus singles, AG, and Superchrist (which wthout is lke a one disc version of MCIS). A true return to form showing that nothing has been lost by BC/JC. What you guys and gals need to do is forget about the past and focus on the now. Get all the pre-Zeit out of your head, and then take in what Zeitgeist is about to truly respect it - stop holding it up against the others. Maybe it's my age showing, respect for the artistry that is the SP, or maturity in that I have been there from the beginning, but some of you really have to broaden your horizons a bit. I haven't had the pleasure of catching the SP yet, as my leg of the tour kicks in from Adelaide - but I can tell you that I already know how good it 's going to be after waiting 12 years.

+ves Billy and co look in great spirits and there was no evidence of a vacant looking billy which was discussed from previous european tours. The crowd really got into them and as Bree said to me last night, reminded them of a band that is capable of so much. This performance will probably win them some more popularity. Hummer.
-ves From the purists point of view the crowd fucking sucked (partly because of QOTSA). While it was great to see them get into it and have fun, they really pissed me off with their stupid shouting and general stupid behaviour. I guess this is to be expected from a festival show. If I had my time again, i'd skip V fest.

I think the camera's were just for the big screens they had set up, but if anything does surface it would be on MTV, so we'll have to all keep an eye on that.
I've uploaded a video of Smashing Pumpkins playing The Church's - Reptile. I will upload a higher quality version once we get back home.

Great great show. Was almost going to leaved the mosh to find the crew, but thought i'd stay since i'd done the hard yards with Queens. Lucky i did because i managed to get a great spot - Really great set. I think the emotional connection will really come in Adelaide and Melbourne's sideshows, this was more of an "awesome" feeling and just being in awe hearing these songs live and just living it.
Tarantula was a tune i felt a lot more than i thought i would. Hummer was brilliant and Cheub Rock was just great to close. Crowd was crazy, but you get that at festivals.

i thought this show was great, i think i got into it more than the hordern show. coming out with today, tarantula and then hummer just kicked the crowd off. i love the long extended songs, and think united states in its current form is epic and awesome. one of the things i love most about this band is their incredible live interpretations of songs, and as such, one of the best things i think they've done is that 30 minute silverfuck/space jam medley from late 96, early 97. i love seeing them doing awesome long noisy jammy stuff reminiscent of that.
otherwise, i though volume levels were way, way too low for both qotsa and pumpkins. it was very easy to talk at normal volume and be heard.

Big Bad Bill in the middle of US out front and centre on the speaker stack. I have very few photos from V. Due to the crazyness of the pit I wasnt really able to get my hand down into my pocket to get the camera - then I wasnt able to hold still long enough to get any sort of decent shot!
