the show rocked in the first half, but died in the second needing theencore t pull it out of the quagmire... but it didn't happen. Therefore, i left feeling unfulfilled.
IMO, the set list really rocked the show to start with then seemed to fade into oblivion, finishing with US, and then a lack lustre encore.
Obviously a snub to Adelaide that we were not good enough for Hummer, or CHerub, or Muzzle.
For the record, US was pretty special, but is a tad too long and loses the attention of the crowd.
And, I distincly remeber Josh coming out on stage to contribute the morrocca's to something which I can't remember.
Not a great show, but good.
I can only hope Melb satisfies me!

I enjoyed the show last night. The encore was disappointing, I was ready for a couple more songs but I guess that's the way things go. I didn't even realise US was 25 minutes long! Honestly, the SP set went really quickly for me, I couldn't believe the gig was over, I enjoyed it so much it had gone like lightning! Billy has a love/hate relationship with his 'old songs' - when announced he was playing an old song, the crowd roared, to which he asked "Do you think my old songs are better than my new ones?" - to which the crowd roard, to which Billy replied "Fuck you!" and proceeded to rant. In good humour mind you Overall, I'm just glad I got the chance to see the band perform.

Well, i have seen 4 United States so far on this tour, and so far every single one of them have fucking rocked - one of the highlights of each show imo. And as for adelaide not being good enough for muzzle, zero, and hummer - well, you got drown, ava adore, and a floyd cover so stop being a whiny little bitch At least you were there to see it.

Well, I just posted on the AdelaideNow website regarding the show which received a crap review from someone bemoaning the fact that Zero wasn't played. Well, that song hasn't been played so far on the Aus/NZ tour and probably isn't likely to be so. Billy appears to be running with many of the songs from Zeitgeist and it's my opinion if you want a greatest Hits set with Siamese and MCIS being more heavily represented then wait for 40 years or go and see the f*****g Eagles. BTW - Wak, we got a lacklustre encore because the crowd stood there and did nothing as per usual for adelaide crowds. WE WONDER WHY BANDS ONLY DO EAST COAST TOURS. Fans, or so-called fans, just standing there not even getting into it. I was on the first elevation of seats and if what I saw was what Billy saw from the stage we got what we deserved. This city is hopelss for crowds 'cause I think no-one wants to go off cause someone may see them. I am so happy I've got a V-Fest ticket for saturday. Conclusion - Great show, S**t crowd. I am sorry Billy, Jimmy, Ginger, Jeff and Lisa that you came here and came back from retirement to experience that crowd.

I dunno - i think that the Pumpkins setlist doesnt really allow the crowd to "go off" when its littered with songs like 1979, My Blue Heaven, Thats the Way, Porcelina, Lilly etc. When I say littered - i mean spread throughout - rather than the rubbish sense of the word.
But I do think there is too much of a 'bogan' element that comes to hear the best of singles and is p!ssed off when they play other stuff.

Does anyone think the short encore might've been because the show was already 30 minutes overtime? Bands generally don't care about running overtime, but maybe they were given the hard word?

I left a comment also, a bit immature, but just wanted to say something
From memory, there was only one song for the encore on the setlist right from the start wasn't there? Nothing was abandoned.

Ok so some people enjoyed United States but from where i was most people looked bored Shitless. what i mean is that the first half was probably more upbeat, and i didn't think the 2nd half went too well, it was filled with longer slower songs. And as for billy wearing a skirt apparently its nothing new but thats the first time ive seen pumpkins live so it was new to me. Queens of the Stone Age played a good set too, 'whats he gonna do, take a shitty picture?'

I noticed how in that article - the pic has 2 shots of Bill and brushes Jeff completely!
So many whinging "fans" I guess thats the problem with a band as long lasting and great as the Pumpkins - theyve been around so long and produced so many great songs - that theres no way EVERYONE can go home having heard their favourite.
Those fools are best served going home sitting down and listening to Rotten Apples.

So that show slapped me sideways & ripped my voice box out within an hour.
Too many highlights that I can't fully detail now as it was my first Pumpkins show, & much of it needs to sink in still.
I was in amongst the mosh for the first half & it got a little brutal at times, but was cool for the most part. Had to try an shield a few smaller bodies around me as a few nobs didn't realise how much bigger they were than others there, but I guess I should've expected that.
Second half wasn't as full-on (for the most part) & the crowd wasn't singing as much, but that doesn't mean they weren't enjoying it. Sure, some were bored & hoping for their favourite songs instead, which I can understand, but imo, they made up for it with a brilliant jam session.
Oh & the sound! I was impressed as soon as I heard QOTSA & knew I wasn't gonna have to worry about the sound quality for the night, which was a huge relief!
Was excellent to meet up with a few of you here + others. Made the night much more enjoyable & for that, thanks!
Bring on Melbourne, baby! 8]

My friend grabbed a copy of the setlist, and there was only "I dont mind" listed under the encore section. As for the article complaining about them not playing Zero, any band with as many songs as the pumpkins have are going to have to leave a few that people want to hear out. Hell I could make a long list of songs I would have liked to hear, zero included, but I was more than happy with what I saw.
And anyone who came just to hear the bands singles cant really complain, we got 9 by my count. Most bands going around these days dont even have 9 singles, let alone play that many at any one show.
Tonight, Tonight, Ava Adore, Stand Inside Your Love, BWBW, Today, Tarantula, 1979, TTWMLI, The Everlasting Gaze
In regard to the encore, it would have been nice to finish with the full band on stage, and a more upbeat song may have been a better choice to end with, but otherwise I was happy with the show and thought it lived up to expectations.

On the subject of bands not playing ALL of their big songs, in 2005 when I saw Pearl Jam, they didn't play Alive, which was a bit of a surprise. PJ and SP have comparable back catalogs, so it's quite normal for bands to not play all of their singles.
Ms Ginger Reyes is a pretty girl too - I loved the backup vocals by her and the keyboardist, which were really well harmonised and worked well with Billy.

it was a strange, strange crowd... tonight went down to raptures, whereas the same people were standing stone cold still for mayonaise. i think the majority of the crowd just wanted to see a smashing pumpkins 93-96 tribute band, not the smashing pumpkins. fuck that i say.
ava adore was fantastic. awesome version of a great song. the everlasting gaze i really enjoyed too.
the jam was once again out of this world. third time i've seen it and i enjoyed it the most. this is what i'm paying to see, the smashing pumpkins in full flight and in all their glory. absolutely a grade. and heavy as all fuck. ah, so heavy.
qotsa were good too, and fuck, what a lineup. for $100 you get an hour of queens and a bit over 2 hours of pumpkins.
met ozphorian josh (i have terrible memory, i think it was josh, anyway, hello!) in jbhifi this morning whilst killing slow slow adelaide time, and josh homme at the airport who i was able to tell i had seen queens for the 15th time the previous night. good stuff!

Brilliant, and I mean, brilliant show. I wasn't expecting a jam anything like what they did, and even though my feet were in agony by then and I probably looked bored, I was actually enjoying every second of it. Getting a Pink Floyd song was another huge bonus since they're one of my other favourite bands. By the way, I met a few of you guys in the lineup outside the Ent Cent yesterday, I was the loud obnoxious red haired bloke

some of the comments here are pretty funny...
why was billy wearing a skirt? why did we have to listen to a 25 minute song? why didn't they play more singles? why was the 2nd half of the show shit?
i agree with whoever said that the crowd should have gone and seen a pumpkins tribute band. it's 2008!
And Steve... regarding that Adelaide Now thread... I've posted a reply, but in case it doesn't get published, here's my 2c...
Once again, I am embarrassed by the Adelaide crowd at an international music concert. The crowd was quiet at the best of times... even after the big hit songs that everyone knew. Even when Billy let us sing the opening to Today... not everyone joined in.
I don't understand why Adelaide music fans are so quiet.
Those who are complaining about last night's concert need to realise that the Pumpkins played a 2008 concert. Of course they're not going to play all of their big hits from the mid 90's. They mixed up old songs with new ones... and in my opinion, as a fan who loves the new stuff and the old stuff... last night's show was just amazing.
You can't expect them to play like it's 1996.

insanityshorse, i was stating the obvious impression that the Adel crowd were not good enough for something else in the encore, not being a 'whiny little bitch' as you so elegantly put it. I'd appreciate you keeping flames to yourself.
And krusden, you summed up exactly what I was saying. THe crowd was lack lustre and stood there when US finshed. Not one of the most receptive and inspiring crowds at all.
As I said, the show started great but tapered off, losing the crowd, and lulling everyone into the exits.
The sound also was way too loud and a lot of the songs were just noise.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the show, but just didn't get the satisfaction I ws after.
I am sure Melb will give that to me with the extended set.

Ok sorry for those i offended i'm not saying it was a bad show I'm just saying since they sell Zero Tshirts at every concert youd think they would play the song, or maybe im the only one who thought of it that way.
I think the loudest the crowd went was: So you guys think my old stuff is better than my new stuff? WOOOOOOOOO YYYEEAAH!!!! Bit of a shame really i dont think that inspires them to come back...did anyone get a good video recording? Any Full Songs?

...I'm just saying since they sell Zero Tshirts at every concert youd think they would play the song, or maybe im the only one who thought of it that way. I guess the "Zero" shirt is sort of seen as an iconic emblem of the band and something that when you see you immediately think smashing pumpkins. For some reason I've never really associated the shirt directly with the song, rather with the band as a whole and more specifically with the Mellon Collie era. One could also ask why they are selling Zeitgeist shirts when they haven't been playing the song "Zeitgeist" at any of the recent shows. ps. I'm really starting to appreciate That's the Way a lot more after hearing the acoustic/piano version. I think it suits the song better than the full band arrangement.

Ok sorry for those i offended i'm not saying it was a bad show I'm just saying since they sell Zero Tshirts at every concert youd think they would play the song, or maybe im the only one who thought of it that way. but the zero shirt on sale is not the same as the one that was in 1996, its not the same fucking band as 1996. 'Zero' is a trademark of the pumpkins, 'zero' is a character, its so much more than a song, ever notice that billy doesn't wear a zero shirt in the zero film clip? OMIFUK. I still don't get the logic, would help you to sleep at night knowing that the band is selling merch of a song they play at every show. Would the 2 minutes of zero make up for the total disappointment that was the show without zero in it knowing they were selling zero t shirts. If you look at billy's guitar straps you'll notice there's a 'z' or a 'o' on them as they would appear on the new zero t shirt. Perhaps it symbolises that the character of zero is back but in a different form. The zero brand lives on. If you bought a pair of air jordan's and went and saw the michal jordan play and not do a dunk from the free throw line but he got a triple double would you complain? hell no. It's pretty much the same thing
