queens bored me. josh holmes is a dick. wow. he is so hard core. he smoked on stage when you're not allowed. i had an erection. i want to start smoking so i'm like him. ugh. wanker but it was fucking amazing seeing jesse on stage. it was cool when billy pointed to the crowd and jesse waved or something and the crowd cheered for him i had a great time at the show, was on the barrier with vic and steve and yeah. top shit. top setlist, and good sound. good catching up with the local ozphrians there aswell nice work on dissing josh homme! i don't mind QOTSA but i'm in total agreeance with your words here. i was right infront of him on the barrier and couldn't hear the vocal or feel the music and thus, i lost interest. my mate and i were joking about how we should have brought a mini magnetic chess set and how we wanted to start a game during the queens set to kill the hour. same same on jesse also.. and, i think it was vic who said it.. i was waiting for 'who's the retard?' to be shouted out. that cover has been my highlight so far.. jesse was an added bonus. i kept looking over to you guys and attempting to wave but alas, no recognition. hehe. sorry for the sweaty hug afterwards.. i was a tad happy and i did warn you! ah.. adelaide was great.. i teared up at the end of mayonnaise and walked off from the ozphoria crew afterwards in order to stem the tears.. i can't say why.. but this show hit like sydney hadn't. top notch!

After seeing the Pumpkins in Melbourne in 1998 for Adore, and Billy's solo show a few years ago, it was great to see him laughing and joking around on stage, and really enjoying the songs. Don't get me wrong, the other shows were great, but I've been longing to see the rocking Pumpkins for a lifetime. I thought they played really well. Jimmy kicked ass on the drums. They played a good mix of old and new songs (Superchrist, Mayonaise and BWBW were highlights for me) but it's impossible to expect a 'perfect' setlist. Adelaide should feel lucky to get both the Pumpkins and QOTSA for over 3 hours and for just $100. It's just a shame that the crowd wasn't more into it. I yelled myself hoarse through both bands and loved every minute of it.

All good. I see zero as a statement relating to the bands earlier days as well. But i still think it would have been great if they played it.

where were you crowd wise? i was in scott world for most of the night.. my little happy place where the pumpkins play ;D lol, and you were fucking sweaty ;D
i dont know what it was about last night, but it did just feel special. hordern was amazing, and nothing can change the amazingness of seeing the band for the first time.. brisbane was a bit of a let down cos i was on billy's side and had shit sound, but it was a great setlist aswell, but i would say adelaide has been my #1 gig so far.

The sound also was way too loud and a lot of the songs were just noise. Then you must be too old!!! LOL Every BDO I have been to was way louder than that. This was my first Pumpkins concert, and I must admit I went in with no expectations, and left content, but not over the moon. I must agree with most people that the crowd was pretty lacklustre. I was trying my best to living things up, doing the whole "Hey" chant during US, but it sounded like I was the only one yelling it out! I was standing right in front of the mixing desk, and I thought the sound was awesome. The drums just about knocked me over, the bass was powerful, and the guitars were crystal clear, except during the heavy songs which were supposed to be distorted. Billy's vocal did get swamped during one song (can't remember which one), but all in all I was happy with the sound and performance. Highlights for me were Porcelina, Mayonaise, and the Heart of the Sun song (that sounded awesome). Glad I picked out it was Jesse on stage too, I wasn't sure at first. I went with a mate who had a fleeting interest in the Pumpkins back in MCIS era, and he probably summed up the majority of the crowd: he was there to listen to the hits. He does have very broad music tastes, and hasn't been up with the Pumpkins since 96, but he left satisfied upon hearing 1979. He also noted how well Billy sang during 1979 and My Blue Heaven. The only criticism I would have of the whole show is, for me, US really disintergrated during Billy's jam. After starting off so rhythmically and strong, it just lost it's beat. I think it probably would be better suited in the middle of the set, especially if it's going to be that long. It's not the length that I had a problem with (Gossamer runs about the same), it's just the way it loses it's power in the middle like a steam train with no more coal. I think that's why the crowd was so lost in the end. wannagoforaride: I got two recordings on my still camera's video setting. Full version of Tonight, Tonight, and the full Billy 'rant', with first minute or so of Drown.

Don't be ashamed to use plugs, it saves your hearing but also makes the sound alot clearer.

where were you crowd wise? i was in scott world for most of the night.. my little happy place where the pumpkins play ;D lol, and you were fucking sweaty ;D crowd wise - dead centre on the barrier infront of corgan. one can't help but end up horribly sweaty in a mosh. especially when standing infront of ridiculously tall boys who get squished up against you. I'm not sure how you managed to come away so fresh and dry, what's your secret? I was bummed after sydney. no 'Sarah world' action at all. My brain just couldn't click over to it. What gate do you have for tomorrow's gig?

At the same time, i forgot Scott was boelsen.. or that boelsen was scott.. and the same goes for all ozphorians that i met outside the metro gig. i heard screen names and real neams and i've no idea who's who. Anyway, i'm Sarah.. red hair.. a bad dye job.. the RATM hoodie/skirt/stockings lining up from 1pm.

hmmm, maybe I am too old. The BDO this year (in Adel) also got to me with alot of it being way too load and just noise (Bjork and Arcade were atrocious). But then again, I thought when you get old you can't hear as well as when you were younger... go figure! I agree with Bazza and the steam train metaphor for US, and also believe that it would be much better in the middle of the setlist. I also associate 'zero' with the band and not the song. Well, sleep for me now, got early flight for Melb tomorow. Sleep is very important at my age

I do love United States, I think the best version so far would have to be the Sydney V-fest one-cutting down on the feedback solo really helped. At the Sydney show I think I voiced my disapproval at the length of it, but really, it's such a small part of a show that was packed with quality-if one's night is ruined by 5 minutes of feedback then they are indeed hard to please!
Seriously though, you guys got Ava Adore and drown in succession, that would have made the night for me...I am just ludicrously jealous, and will regret my whole life not following them around the country for that moment alone!

Just to reply to the previous comment of the sound being too loud and noise .
For this show I had seats in line with the sound desk on Gingers side ofthe stage and I didnt need my ear plugs that I normally wear when i'm on the barrier.
Best sound of any of the shows yet , great acoustics in the venue, Tonight Tonight sent shivers down my spine , it was that good!

hooray man! when i got into the pumpkins i didn't think i'd get to see them live, which was a source of constant sorrow. but yeah, i went to adelaide and just had the best time at the show. i would have liked less (none) QOTSA and more of the pumpkins, but what can you do? i thought dynamically the whole set was arranged perfectly, but the audience was just drilled into submission. It happens when every song you write is awesome.
I thought it was telling comparing Josh Homme's :"I like to drink, and fuck, and party!" to billy's: "We like to play music". that's why the pumpkins are far superior to all that macho cock rock bullshit.
yeah anyway, super stoked to have seen THE band and happy i get to see em at the perth vfest.

We were on the barrier in front of Jeff and we were loving it! I didnt even notice the rest of the crowd were a little quiet during SP until BC mentioned it because we were so drawn in down the front. Amazing setlist, I really loved U.S. in Adelaide, i enjoyed all the feedback because i enjoyed seeing BC working it like that, but i can understand from a more casual fan perspective it lost the flow of the song a little. Seeing Jesse on stage like that was amazing. BC during the whole set was laughing and joking with the rest of the band. He looked in great spirits which is always heart warming I am just holding out for 'I Am Warne' in Melbourne

All good. I see zero as a statement relating to the bands earlier days as well. But i still think it would have been great if they played it. Zero isn't a statement, nor just a song title. It relates to the Glass and the Machines of God story. Zero is a character - a role that Billy played throughout his career until he became Glass during the Machina era. If you'd like to know more about it, check out our archive here: sunky.proboards1.com/index.c.cgi?board=machinaOr our GATMOG discussion: sunky.proboards1.com/index.c.cgi?board=discuss&action=display&thread=1206101573It's just as David Bowie sold Aladdin Sane merch but he didn't play the song every night. The Cure sell tshirts that read 'Boys Don't Cry' but they don't always play the song.

For mine, the Adelaide show was by far the best in all aspects. The only thing I wished to change was the opinion of the narrow-minded 'music tourist' crowd who came to hear a hit parade of the Pumpkins back catalogue and scoffed at the brilliant new stuff. Some douche afterwards complained loudly near us about the show being too short and the band being weak only playing a 2 and a half hour set. He said they should be embarassed playing their new stuff instead of Zero or Cherub Rock. Quite frankly, I don't fucking care for that kind of narrow-minded idiocy. There are real fans among us who have traveled ridiculous distances to see these songs being played - I'm talking about 'If All Goes Wrong', 'Stellar', 'Bring the Light' etc. I could not give a flying fuck if you were upset that they didn't play your favourite track off Siamese Dream or your downloaded copy of Mellon Collie. Seriously, the shows have been fantastic and the Adelaide show just reminded me that the band can crank out a cover and have it sit perfectly well next to either a new track or an old one. Queens of the Stone Age were boring as bat shit, looked like they'd just stepped out of a failed rehab visit and proved they know 4 chords and how to play to one drum beat. Compared to a diverse act such as the Pumpkins, it got very old very quickly and left a lot of punters unsure as to whether they'd just heard the same track played in 8 different variations.
But as far as the band go, I haven't seen Billy smile so much on stage all tour.

Anyway, I've lost my point completely, It didn't really affect what I thought of the show-and I LOVE United States. My impatience was probably due to my ADD kicking in combined with the fact I knew I wasn't gonna hear "Snail", hehehe! I was in amongst people in GA who knew maybe 4 songs, and were looking at me strangley while I was singing along to C'Mon Let's Go and Crush. How can a band who has recorded in excess of 300 songs please everybody (and yes, I know this has been said before), but really - it gives me the shits when people say it was a bad show because there were one or two songs they didn't hear get played. One of the highlights for me though would definitely have to be the acoustic version of That's The Way. Without doubt the best and most emotive version of the song I've heard yet. I'm also with boelsen on QOTSA - I just can't get over how cool Josh Homme is.

Then they would've had no idea about Cash Car Star - which was a real highlight for me. Jeez, a few years back I would NEVER have thought I'd see Billy Corgan and band perform a track from their essentially 2nd 'B-side' album. Loved the jam which followed it. The more I think about the gig, the more I love it. I want to see them again!!!

The show was awesome in every aspect, sure there were some songs that I would've liked to hear but I was more than impressed with the setlist. Some of the crowd annoyed me though, I heard people complaining afterwards that they didn't play Zero or Disarm, and another guy came up to me telling me how self-indulgent he thought they were towards the end with their jams, especially in United States, but I thought that was an awesome way to close their set. I wouldn't have minded hearing something more than just I Don't Mind for an encore but I'm not complaining, the only downside of the night were the people that only came out to hear the Pumpkins greatest hits live. I was happy to hear how well they contrasted their new songs with their old. Anyway, best concert I've been to I have to say.

I'm sure he doesn't act like that all the time, its just on stage, fake cause he thinks we'll think he's cooler if he acts like that. Billy Corgan never 'fakes' cool.
