i reckon they'd be fun to shoot, have a good time!
i was actually thinking at the KMH gig that i think i'll like to stick with small-medium shows, it sounds like a headache all that crap you have to go through and don't even get to stay half the time. i'd like to move up to doing some more international acts though, i need to do another good album for FL, i haven't been happy with the last few =(

So tomorrow night I am shooting for the Adelaide International Guitar Festival (sounds fancy, don't it). Its at the Festival Theatre - a gig by Lior and Jesse Harris called 'Words & Strings' Good news is I bought my 50mm and am going to use even though i am not sure of the distance just because it is fucking amazing in low light (i cant believe how good it is scott!) but the bad news is that photographers only get to shoot the first 3 minutes of each artist. WTF - 3 minutes wont even be one song! I do then get a ticket to the gig and can shoot from the back of the venue, but still - 3 minutes is a joke. So this is my first gig with a pit, and monitored time/song limit, and with my new lens....scary! Wish my luck

haha, yeah i was so impressed the first time i used the 50 it was crazy. its so fast, and blur in the background makes even an amature like the first time i shot get goood pics dont get too stressed out by the time. i'd be pretty confident they fucked up the time limit.. i've never heard of anything other than 3 songs! 3 minutes is so fucked.. songs you can judge, i use one lens per song, but 3 minutes.. jeez i hope its wrong! goodluck either way kerrie!

Ok so we got 1 song last night. And because it was at the festival theatre (which is actually a theatre as is opera and classical music) there were seats right to the front of the stage so I literally had to kneel and sit on my legs, and stay put for the song, then we got to go up the back and shoot but out shutters were really loud so we couldn't shoot much.
The 50mm was good but I had the settings too bright and spent most of the song shooting, looking, changing settings, etc....when lior came out I even changed to my zoom lense which is 3.5 to 6.3 and was still set too bright....I really need to learn more about my camera!
Got some ok shots in the end I think. Will upload tonight.
Jessy asked me what the support guy was like and I realise I hadn't even heard any of his music for all my concentration on shooting, and lior I didn't mind but wasn't really impressed with, but I only stayed for 4 songs then went home

haha, yeah, unless its a band i really wanna see, i'm generally happy to leave and get some sleep So at f1.8 on app priority it was too bright? thats all i ever do

Yeah it was too bright. It was a really well lit stage though, but I was so set for using my 50mm wide open that it threw me off. I mucked around with AV, TV and P and with shutter speeds, apertures and iso, but couldn't waste the whole song fucking around! Hah From up the back I was using my zoom but to get it sharpish (as in not totally blurry) I was using a fast shutter and the mucked around with the exposure settings too...upping the exposure to brighten them as they were dark from the fast shutter. Will have a good look at my EXIF data tonight and see what I used that worked and pass it along

do you mean you use a different lens for each song you shoot? if so that's a pretty cool idea, how many lenses do you own? can't wait to see your pics Kerrie, this was for FL right?

Ok, spent a few hours and ended up with a gallery of 24 shots. only 5 of them were punters (i HATE doing that part, i hope i dont get in trouble!)
Not the best, some of them are ok. I dont know what everyone else likes, but i really like odd angles, and i am really big on composition. So, let me know what you think. they wont be up for a day or so and its late and i cant be arsed uploading them to photobucket or somewhere just to post a few here, perhaps tomorrow night if they arent up yet.

do you mean you use a different lens for each song you shoot? if so that's a pretty cool idea, how many lenses do you own? that realy only applies when i rent a lens.. then i have the fast 50mm, the 17-85, and i usually rent the 70-200. Would have been a fair bit of pressure for one song per artist though In the last week i have shot: Grave: flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157610832379557/Lynch mob: flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157611161512059/and the eternal last night: flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157611161562095/lynch mob was for Fl, but i couldnt upload from home, so i uploaded them onto flickr, but not the social snaps, so i submitted the gallery from work with just the band pics thinking i could add the social pics later, but appears i cant wa.

they are only doing passes for this sunday (night?) show, i'll see what my brother (reviewer) wants to do. My older brother is getting back from germany for 2 weeks that morning I wonder who's going to be there. If i go, it'll be you (FL), me (MO), dude from Blunt.. hope no one from the dwarf the barrier is too tight for a lot of photographers edit again: I have asked for passes for the sunday show, so i guess i'll see ya there (unless graham changes his mind and tells me no to passes )

FUCK! just checked the Billboard site and the show tomorrow night starts at 2:30pm and is over by 7pm! i had no idea, hopefully you do Scott. i'll sms you just in case...
i don't think i'll get there at 2:30pm, maybe 4:30pm or so... it's an underage show too. this will be the first one i've done with a barrier, do they let you in for the supports?

generally the security dont know much.. so if you go in there acting like you know it all they'll either tell you to fuck off cos you seem arrogant, or think you know more than they do and let you shoot who you want haha. you should be able to shoot all the supports. its a very tight barrier at billboard
