hey Kerrie what kind of photoshop stuff do you with your RAW pics? i don't really use that format because i don't know much about it, i've only occasionally done it when i'm shooting products at work for posters etc, but that's only to get the size, other than that i don't know much else to do. I only really shoot in RAW so that if i completely fuck it up, there is still some small hope i can save something. I use the Canon EOS raw utility that came with my camera to make any raw corrections, and i have used it to adjust lighting the most, it can work really nicely to add more light and change hues of the coloured lights, but seriously, i havent gone into anything beyond the basics - when you come home with 4GB of RAW images to look through I only end up working on a few.

urgh, last night didn't go that well, i don't think i'll be making an effort to shoot at the Corner again. there was a three song limit but no barrier, the girl next to me shooting specifically for the band said she just puts her camera away after three songs and stays up front, so i ended up staying too. i figured since i'm not that tall i'm not in anyone's way, and if i did go up the back i wouldn't be tall enough to get more photos anyway and wouldn't be able to see shit.
anyway you guys were right, i REALLY need a 50mm lens, all my photos were so dark, i had to photoshop the shit out of them and they all look crap. Scott how much did you say yours cost?
some sleazy italian guy hit on me after the gig, he was so creepy =/ i was taking social pics and he was trying to talk to me, then i took the photo and gave him the FL card and he's like "so is your number on here? no? can i have it?" i said no again and then pretty much ran in the other direction, haha.

haha. the joys of being a guy.. just dont get hit on by creaping italian guys my 50mm cost 140. is 150 usually.. but the dude knocked off 10 bucks for some reason. I meant to barter.. but after 3 places not having them.. i couldnt give a shit anymore. But you should ask for a cheaper price.. if the dude takes off ten for the fuck of it, no reason why they cant do more

so that was new? that's pretty good. and when you buy a lens is it specific to your model of camera, or just like a Canon one?

crap.. i forgot you're nikon. that was a canon one. I think Nikon is about 40 bucks more.. but cant remember where i read that.. but should be under 200 hopefully..

that's okay. but do i need to look for one specifically for a D80, or just one for Nikon?

when ever i have asked for the canon, yeah $150 has been the going rate. I really need to get one, might be a birthday present i think.
I applied for a whole heap of gigs at the upcoming Adelaide Guitar Festival, hope i might get something. I couldnt shoot again this week because of assignments, rental inspection and my brothers wedding.

i'd just ask to make sure it fits the d80. I THINK there are different diameters for the more expensive full frame cameras. goodluck Kerrie I decided for a week off after last week. Didnt apply for any from FL or the dwarf. i know i'll get bored though Have a lot of cd reviews to do though

scott - do you mean you cant watch it in that you get your 3 songs for the first band, then they kick you out until the main act? I havent ever shot a gig where i have had to leave yet, so i am very curious to find out. Do you actually have to leave the venue? whats the deal...please explain.

It was like that for disturbed, and will be the same tonight. Wait out back, get escorted in, shoot 3 songs of support, wait outside, shoot 3 songs machine head, wait outside, (about a 50 minute wait ) then go back in, shoot slipknot, after 3 songs leave for home

flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157608441249290/slipknot photos are up night started off kinda fucked with missing opening band. bit before machine head came on another photographer came. we found it weird was only 2. eventually got inside after complaining to security that no one is coming tot ake us inside.. were surprised to see about 6 more photographers already inside (they got tickets so went in that way). machine head was good, went out, chatted for about an hour with other photographers.. shot slipknot. looked pretty cool everything they brought with them (full stage set up etc - rotating drum kit (upside down) hydraulic scissor lifts to other kits etc) and got a ticket from chick met shooting disturbed, so watched a bit inside, took some snaps, ans left during the encore

i was really hoping to get to do them! i'm not even really a fan, but i felt bad for offering my sister my +1 to Josh Pyke last month and then 5 mins later saying "oh nevermind, my friend can come after all" haha. so i said i'd try and get her a free ticket to something else, but i don't really know who she likes, i thought she'd enjoy them though. oh well.

lol, might be easier to find out who she likes first I wish i wasnt with a website so stuck in the genre of metal.. or atleast that i was a bigger fan of all metal.. there's so many upcoming gigs that i wanna shoot, but just cant be fucked cos i dont really know/like them (and they probably wont ahve barriers)

yeah i know what you mean, plus you probably get alot of similar type crowds i'm guessing? at least with FL the genre can vary a bit. i'm shooting Grafton Primary for In The Mix tomorrow night, i kind of can't be bothered but i said i'd do it anyway. it's at some WOW Streetparty thing, that sounds suspiciously like it might be a club, ew. they want approx 20 shots of the band and 20 of the crowd, i hope i'm not surrounded by trashy 20yos...
anyway we'll talk concert photography tonight, yay!

yay Kerrie! i'm going to ask for one for xmas. i was also thinking i might need to get an external flash for social snaps, because all the ones i take look shit and too 'point and shoot'. dumb question, but is it possible to make the flash less bright? i actually don't mind taking social pics now, after doing 25+ on sat night. the venue was terrible for photos though, worse than Revolver. oh well.
