I watched Get Rich or Die Tryin' last night again. Its solidly good without being great. Kinda glorifies drug dealing a bit too much, but 50 Cent is an ok actor for a rapper - better than Eminem at least.
Also watched Friends with Money - all star cast. Kinda a 'Big Chill' for the next generation of mid 30 yo's to 40 somethings. Great character studies and wonderful dialogue, but dont go and see it expecting a big and envolved storyline.

Tonight, we're off to Sweeney Todd. Not in the regular cinema, no no my friends. Gold Class all the way.
Will let you know how it is!

hehe. We only go for movies we really want to see, so that way I have leg room and there aren't as many people talking during the movie

Woah!
I just watched 'Book of Revelations'
Its an aussie movie - and generally im not a fan. Their either too dumb or trying to be so arty and sh!t that they lose the plot - but this is pretty damn good.
Its some very heavy subject matter (female on male rape) - and some stellar performances. Would definitely recommend it - but not to everyone

yeah? that sounds pretty awesome, but at the same time i can't possibly see it living up to expectations.. a movie length version in the style of an episode (ie. narrator & doco style) - do you think that would happen? or maybe they'll change the style & make it more of a movie narrative - & how many fans are gonna want that? what about the story? carry on from season 3 or start a whole new story?
eh, hopefully they just make it funny. i haven't seen a new funny movie in ages..

This holds no real significance but my sisters partner and I watched Chopper for the first time in ages a few nights ago, and now we can't stop saying "Why Neville?"

|
Post by Tragic Ether on Feb 8, 2008 19:24:11 GMT 7
hahaha! Chopper!
Neville - Chopper theres no cash here. Here there is no cash. Robbo? Robbo - No Cash
Man - we were quoting this (and substituting "cash" for just about anything) for months after the movie. Its best delivered and funniest when you have a mate thats willing to help out with the 'Robbo' role!

And also when Neville is trying to buy Chop and his lady friend drinks, he gets the girls order then asks Chopper what he wants and the sharp "BEER" that Chopper responds with
Definatley one you need to watch to laugh at but i love it.

I have my fingers crossed for Juno at the Oscars today. Its my fave movie for a long time, Michael Cera is my fave actor now....i loved him in Arrested Development and everything he has done since then has been gold. He cracks me up. I hope Ellen Page wins best actress.

yeah, its pretty awesome hey.. helps if you're a bit of a movie dork.
no love for rambo 4 though? it's like a straight-down-the-line 80's actioner! like a paragraph of dialogue in the whole film; plot? who needs it? vi-o-lence! vi-o-lence!

I watched "no country for old men" this afternoon and it really is a beautiful powerful film. Abrupt ending to it but once you take into account what is being said you appreciate what the themes are of the movie

First Blood is a great movie. Its a bit of a look at the psychological breakdown of returned vets after the war (in this case vietnam).
However - Rambo: First Blood Part II (the sequel) is a rubbish typical 80's shoot 'em up action movie that lacks the finess and subtlies of the first one. Then as the franchise goes on - the worse the movies plot lines get.
Apparently the new one is one of the most violent films ever. Im not exactly rushing out to see it.

Heres something I thought I'd bring up;
I have a bit of a list of favourite movies that havent been seen by as many people as they deserve. I highly recommend all of these-
The United States of Leland Life as a House The Salton Sea Gattaca Hard Candy High Fidelity The Chumscrubber Closer Stranger Than Fiction Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I like em - and theyre not Oscar nominees or box office blockbusters - but theyre some of my faves.

I LOVE gattaca and High Fidelity. I actually bought High Fidelity on DVD the other day but the disc keeps stuffing up. I really wanted to see Hard Candy but havent had the chance yet. And Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an awesome film.
I just wanna say, how cute was Diablo Cody when she won Best Original Screenplay for Juno! She is adorable. I am reading her book 'Candy Girl' at the moment. She was a copy typist at an office, was walking home one day past a strip club that had a sign up for amateur night, and she decided to strip ... she spent the next year as an exotic dancer. And its so cute because she is a total geek and massive dork, and she wrote it in the same sort of language as Juno is in. Its very funny.

I got High Fidelity from Big W for about $12 i think. I love that bit where Jack Black comes in with his Monday Morning tape (on monday afternoon) and dances around to "walking on sunshine" hehe.
At work we put that Beta Band song they play on a mix cd, and when it comes on i always say "I will now sell 5 copies of the new Beta Band CD" unfortunately that doesnt happen because i sell books.
Also, i am a total dork.

that is a bloody great movie, very cool. Book is better.

High Fidelity is Jack Black's best movie. 2nd best movie is The Jackal - despite the overall movie being sub-par - Jack Black is brilliant.
I havent liked anything else he has done in the past 5 years.
Kerrie - dont feel like too big a dork - I have been known to walk around work singing "Sha na na na na na na... angina's tough!"

Rambo IV, incredible... i was laughing my ass off at the acting setting up the story of them going in.. but god damn, the action was top knotch.. better than Rambo III, I & II are classic.. i can't wait for IV AND V..
michael clayton.. clooney's persona is so fkn' predictable, right down to the last frame.. and this movie felt like a more stylised version of all those 90's grisham movies, but it was pretty damn good, sydney pollack knows whats up, and the ending was especially kickass..
there will be blood.. same again, PTA is the shit..
