Does anyone here who uses Macs have iWork? Thinking about getting it for Pages/Numbers.
Also my dream is to buy my parents a Mini Mac for Christmas. They have an old PC that my Dad rescued from the uni where he and Mum work, and it keeps coming up with viruses and errors. I'd love them to have a computer that works! I think the last computer that worked in that house was my old iBook.

Bree, I dont have iWork but we are thinking of getting it instead of Office. We wont need lots of the Office programs, and iWork is so much cheaper. Did you end up buying it? If so, what do you think?

We've got iWorks and its pretty cool. I just wanted a word processing program, so I can have track editing etc and for that purpose its pretty cool. Haven't used Numbers or Keynote and I don't think I will need too. But I like it. Did you get a demo of it? I think you might be able to download a demo online.

yeah we did get a demo but it expired and so we have no word processor at the moment haha. I see the value in Ofiice but its just too much for me to pay right now, and for $89 with edu pricing you cant really beat iWorks.

well we just rented Flatliners out, not bad for $4 ... It downloaded 25% of the movie and we could start watching. While we watched it continued to download the movie - awesome quality on the TV too!

oh wow, that's awesome, did you just do all that through the Apple TV? I will be getting one next year for my place.

Yep it was all done on the apple tv. You log in using your iTunes account and then you just browse away, one silly thing is it can only download one file at a time ... but that isn't that big of a deal since its coming from a dedicated server and its pretty quick.
Our Apple TV was pretty useless for ages, just had some music and photo's on it ... but to have the abilty to play movies and TV shows on it now too ... its actually a good thing to have.

can you download more than one movie on iTunes on a machine? As you can share libraries and junk like that to the TV? Hmmm

Oh you can have as many movies you want on the Apple TV and download as many as you want on it, its just it will only download one movie, store that, then start downloading the second one ... does that make sense? But yeah you can download as many you want at a time on your computer and just sync them across to the Apple TV. Plus then you can use your iPhone as a Remote! ... using the Remote App ... FTW!

I was looking at the apple TV for our new place but like you said, i couldn't justify it without something like movies - but now we have shite internets anyway so i wouldn't be able to download anything! hehe.

someone at work just got an iphone. i'm really impressed by it. the little applications you can get are really cool - her latest one makes a whip crack sound effect when you move the phone in the whip crackin motion. and it changes the sound based on how hard you crack it. superb.
can you guys recommend any cool apps for it?

Yep.
Get Shazam, its $10 but worth it. If you don't know the name of a song being played on TV or radio, you hit "tag" it listens to 60seconds of the song, queries a database and then tells you the name of the song, artists, link to buy it on iTunes and link to watch on YouTube. Its awesome. Remote - allows you to control you iTunes as a remote. IceTV - TV guide MySpace + Facebook apps are pretty cool.
The main app I use it Twitteriffic ... but thats if you use twitter, which EVERYBODY should! ... (http://twitter.com/sunky)

So new iTunes! Im loving the genius bar playlist ... awesome feature. Its been great, I can pick a band I feel like listening to and it creates playlist of similar artists ... loving it. Especially for all my funk collections, getting some good mixes today. Besides that, the rest of the Stevenote was pretty straight forward.

do you guys know if its possible to do auto rating in itunes? i use it at work cos we can share each others music etc. but i want auto ratings! like when you skip a track the rating goes down, and listen till the end the rating goes up. it would be an easy way to make playlists.. i guess its kinda like play count.. but no! i want auto ratings!

nope, does not do that in itunes, ratings are based on user ratings, not by play count, cool concept though

i used to autofill my nano using nested smart playlists... adding some "never played", some "top played", some "recently added" and some "with skips higher than 5".
obviously i would tweak the ratios of each - it was sort of all my top played plus most of my recently added, plus maybe 20% never played and 10% with high skips?

i went to the opening of the new apple store in melbourne, was sooooo awesome and amazing, if you ever get the chance to go to an opening, DO IT! I was on my way past Chaddy and dropped in at around 12:30. Its an awesome store, I can see myself dropping in a lot. I really like the look of the new Nano and the Touch. Did they give any cool freebies out at the start?
