Dunno if you all remember my mate Simon who hung with us a bit in Sydney and Melbourne, but he's a photographer for fasterlouder.com and he put me down as his plus-one for tonights Kisschasy/The Donnas gig! Then he tells me that his boss wants him to review the show too. Then he goes 'wait - youre a writer - you wanna do it?'
So now im going to see Kisschasy/The Donnas as a reviewer!

Going to see Sigur Ros @ Festival Hall in Melbourne on the 1st August.
I've just got into them lately (for about two weeks now) & think they make the most moving, beautiful tunes ever.

Getting Opeth and Meshuggah tickets.
This will be my third time seeing Opeth, they always put on a great show, looking forward to the new album.
So stoked about the Meshuggah tour, it will be one insane night.
Death Cab For Cutie have announced August dates for Australia, so no doubt I'll be getting tickets for that as well.

Oh man - the Donnas rocked the house down! Its just a shame that the crowd were so teeny bopper heavy that The Donnas fans really stood out. No one really appreciated just how hard and awesomely they Donnas rocked! Kisschasy were such a disappointment in comparrison.

What's a good starting place for Meshuggah? Do you mean in terms of recommendations for the uninitated listener? If so, I'd go with Chaosphere (1998). I'm not a hardcore Meshuggah fan (unlike my brother), but this album, in particular the second track 'New Millennium Cyanide Christ', is killer and probably their most accessible. Which, it has to be said, doesn't say a great deal. I still think it's pretty esoteric stuff. But worth perservering with. I'm sort 50/50 on whether I'll go see em in October. Might be a tad rich for my blood, but I'd like to.

Yeah I'm pretty much totally uninitiated, I've heard a song or two and seem to remember liking it, so I thought it would be an idea to check them out before they came in case they dont come back and i get into them down the track. Cheers, shall check it out

you were right about the crowd too Todd, you could definately tell who the Donnas fans were. there was a group of about four people behind me and my friend who were so fucking annoying, i heard the words "myspace photo" about 50 times. then one of them asked me and my friend to move down, when there was clearly no room, and we said no and then he grabbed us and was like "okay myspace photo!" - wtf?! we told him to fuck off.

cool thanks, your show seemed pretty similar to mine, i also noticed the older crowd shifting to the back after The Donnas, haha. another freak story - some guy messaged me on myspace saying he went to the same show (he must have seen my pics) and told me he made some videos and was putting them up on youtube. after two short replies, the next thing he wrote back was "hey are you with optus? if you are you can call me and i'll play you some Donnas songs on guitar" - wtf?! these people need help.

Here's To The Mourning, i love that album! it was the first of theirs i bothered to get, but i'd liked them since 2000 when Cailin' used to get played to death on Channel V's Skunk Hour. i got a good beating (not literally) in the pit when i saw them in 2005 though, it probably the most violent crowd i've ever been in.

I had a listen to Chaosphere, I'm liking it very much, the time shifts keep me interested which is the problem i have with most metal that is constantly pretty heavy, if theres no dynamic shifts then it loses me, but im enjoying it thoroughly. I feel like i should go just because i doubt theyll come again and its only $50 so i can kinda deal with that, unlike dillinger which was what $75? Im sure it ould've been a grat show, but a bit rich for my blood... so yeah, I think ill probably go if it doesnt sell out before i can afford it... still need to get my Breeders ticket :s

i saw Liam Finn last night, he was great as always. he's such a maniac on the drums, i wish i'd gotten a video. and EJ (the girl who sings with him) threw one of her boots over to him and he drummed with it, haha. Grafton Primary have added more tour dates, yay! i can't go though cos i'm seeing another band on the same night. but seriously, anyone who can get there HAS to check them out, they're so fucking cool, and it's cheap. 27 Jun 2008 - Adelaide, South Australia 28 Jun 2008 - Melbourne, Victoria 4 Jul 2008 - Sydney, New South Wales 11 Jul 2008 - Brisbane, Queensland more details on their myspace www.myspace.com/graftonprimaryThe Music have also added sideshows, awesome news.

I'm also quite surprised by the price of tickets, for $50 you are going to get a great night of Metal. I've been a fan for about 6 years. The band got heaps awesome the more they progressed. The early stuff (Contradictions Colapse, None (ep) and Destroy Erase Improve) is coming from a more traditional thrash angle. Good solid and meaty stuff. Things got real interesting after Chaosphere. It was a turning point in my mind where the band truly took things to this huge new level. I'd say if you want your mind blown get Chaosphere, Nothing, I (ep) and Catch-33. I'm yet to hear the new album but from all reports it seems like another great one. I'm personally a big fan of "Nothing." It's a slow burner but if you got a great set of headphones, just give yourself about a day and you'll see the beauty of it all unfold. The band isn't for everyone, but if you stick with it, they end up sounding pretty amazing. I'm yet to see Liam Finn live. I was blown away by his debut last year, one of my favourite releases for sure. Is anyone going to Judas Priest? I'm not a fan of the band but Cavalera Conspiracy is opening and being a huge Sepultura fan, this makes me think it will be the closest I ever get to seeing the real thing.
