I dunno if this will just be a thread for me and steve but here it is. As game one of the playoff finals start between the lakers and celtics this is your place to discuss.
Go celtics!

Even though i'm a Lakers fan, i think it's going to be Boston's series. All they need to do is win all their home games and the championship is theirs.
I think for LA to have a shot, they need to steal todays game on the road. Theres 3 days between game one and two, let Kobe Bryant play 46/47 minutes and try to win it. Boils down to Boston having more depth and Kobe's support crew simply not up to it i think - Hope i'm wrong!
If anything, it will be good to see Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce get a title ifmy team can't come through.
For what it's worth, these were my predictions at the start of the week
Celtics to win 4-2 MVP - Paul Pierce (32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) Kobe - 36ppg, 7rpg, 6apg X Factor - Kedrick Perkins
It's about quarter time in game one right now (I'm going off live updates) and Kobe has made one field goal from 8 attempts. eep.

So weird you post this thread, I've started reading and getting into the NBA again. I was obessed as a kid, big Bulls fan like most ... guess I would still count them as my team too.
Is there anywhere to watch games?

Game one done and dusted. Boston win 88-78
I could only go by live scores, Garnett was solid early and it sounds like Pierce had a knee injury?
That was LA's big chance to steal a game on the road i thought...still, good to see Fisher putting up decent numbers.

yeah I read that he got injured and then came back on (all in the third quater) and I watched the first 4 min or so of the third and didnt see any signs of it. Anyhow he played toward the end so i'm guessing he'll be right.

meh - i havent watched basket ball since about 94.
I was a Rockets and Bucks fan back in the day. North Melbourne Giants too!
NBA is so ego driven and all about the showmanship. Guys are more concerned about stats and looking good than whats good for the team as a whole. For awesome team play - College B-Ball is the way to go, but even then, its getting to be a bit of a circus too.

I used to love the game in the 90's. To tell you the truth my obsession ended when channel 10 stopped covering the NBA! Sir Charles, Karl The Mailman Malone, Jordan! woo.
Another connection I had was with the NBA computer games. I started with "Lakers vs Celtics" on the PC released in the late 80's - which is almost my favourite basketball game, I poured hours into that game with my brother. NBA Live series on the playstation was nice. And now I'm trying out NBA 2K8 on the PS3 and the gameplay feels very true to life.

Yeah I loved it in the nineties too, I was (and still am) a Sonics fan, Kemp Payton, Schrimf. Then i kinda went off it and only got back into it last year.
Back to the present, Pierce WILL play in game two, apparently theres no damage to his knee he just jarred it. Good to hear.

Game 3 in LA today, I got called into work early so I'll miss the game... I was rostered to finish at 2 (when the game finished) but now I'm shattered. I reckon if the celtics can pick up one of the games in LA (they beat them there in the regular season) then they are laughing, though the way the lakers surged back in game 2 gives them alot of momentum.
Bryant to score 45 as the celtics road defense is considerably worse than at home.

Yeah any player scoring 20 off the bench helps... Though we lost in a way Pierce having a quiet game can help. I can really seeing the Cs snatching a game in LA

I know it's NBA, but i thought i'd post this
That's a huge shame, but it's not like they weren't given enough time/warnings. Imagine going to work and not being payed without reason for a few months What a joke this league is. Tear it down and build something up like the NSL did with the A League. We are Australia for gods sake, no way near good enough.

yep, too many teams in the NBL. an A league style thing is needed. Geez the WNBL is much more exciting.
