So.................. have you guy's preordered your Oceania Packs from the SP site.??
The postage to OZ seems a little expensive.!!! I can't remember how much I paid for the Gish & SD reissues.??

Yeah we ordered, I remember postage being about the same I think? I'm thinking postage seems a little more because there is clothing involved with some of the packages, so while it doesn't make it heavier it will make it bulkier and that could be the price increase.
What are you looking at getting?

In short ... I love the record. It's solid, it has a great structure too it and all the songs compliment each other. If these were released a song at a time, it wouldn't have the same impact.
The final 2 tracks do little for me, it is kind of a nothing ending ... but perhaps hearing them live it could change. Stand out tracks are The Celestials and Violet Rays.

................. (speechless) ................. Awesome.!!! If this album doesn't get people talking and air play there's something wrong.!! 'Panopticon' was played tonight on Good Nights with Linda Marigliano. A few ignorant comments from those on the SMS line and via Twitter. One guy thought James was still in the band.

Pinwheels leads the way for me so far. Brings a smile on, similar to Stellar. Also like Wildflower. (after ~3 listens). Best place to listen to it: spoceania.com/

Well after getting the shits with the pumpkins (billy) around the start of Teargarden and really not liking any of the released songs other than Spangled and Freak I am VERY happy to say that Oceania is pretty damn good! I do miss the aggressive vocals that Billy had on earlier albums but he isnt in his 20's anymore I guess. Oceania is a very pretty record, definitely the best Pumpkins record as a whole since Mellon Collie I would say. There are songs on Adore and Machina that are better but as a whole Oceania has less skipped over material for me personally. Loving the first half of the album the most at the moment. Panopticon, The Celestials and Violet Rays are all awesome. The grunge guitar hitting in on teh Celestials is like a wake up call from the SD/MCIS days - "You’re not me and never ever will you be" Love it. Also Violet Rays just hits that right spot for me, especially the highpoint it reaches as Billy sings "Does love matter when loves the actor For what you are after is me Babe, don’t leave me, please believe me ‘Cause I’m so easy to know" I cant get into Oceania the song or Wildflower though, Pinwheels is great but ends too soon, I feel it would have been epic had that gone into a huge jam of porcelina style instead of it ending where it does. Ordered the Vinyl off SP.com to go with my collection of their other albums on vinyl (all of them bar Zeitgeist and Machina 2 of course) and looking forward to hearing Oceania live in August

Solid album from start to finish.!! There's one song towards the end which sounds a little too happy for my liking, I think it's called The Chimera.?? But other then that........ 5 STARS.!!! ;D I was thinking the other day imagine if they went away for 2 years, wrote and demoed the 44 songs, released the best 22 for Oceania and the other 22 songs as a b-side album Teargarden By Kaleidyscope or something like that.?? But then BC was trying to do something different with the 44 songs 1 at a time concept..... Just a thought

Also Violet Rays just hits that right spot for me, especially the highpoint it reaches as Billy sings "Does love matter when loves the actor For what you are after is me Babe, don’t leave me, please believe me ‘Cause I’m so easy to know" I thought this too. Wasn't sure which song it was from. But one of the highlights for sure. First review I've read pumps it up pretty high: www.artistdirect.com/entertainment-news/article/the-smashing-pumpkins-oceania-album-review-5-out-of-5-stars/10124920Not sure about all of that, but it definitely has a nice flow from start to finish. At this stage, I can't really link much of it to stuff other than post-Zietgeist, TFE, Adore.....but familiarities should pop up with more listens. Went on over to Blamonet (where I used to post a bit before they turned into a cesspool) & of course many of them are trying to come up with the funniest (& most crude) way to ridicule Billy/Oceana........ ---------- Begs the question though - why didn't BC include a Call Me Mabye remake? ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM7nlIsBLoc

Bought the CD for something tangible and the HD download is coming down now, which I'm very excited about.
Thank fuck someone (BC) is paying attention to what people want. We'd all be dead waiting for Apple/iTunes to get down from their fucking ivory tower and actually sell something worth listening to.
Still, it would have been great to have the reissues in 96/24 too. Why the inconsistency? Anyone know what happened there?

Why the inconsistency? Anyone know what happened there? I didn't know there was a HD version available for download. I'm wondering if my PS3 will be able to play it (either by streaming from my media PC or burnt to disc)? If disc is the only way, are normal CDs enough, or is this SACD territory? ---------- Picked up a copy today. Listening to the title track now.....it's like 3 songs in one. Pumpkins of old taking you on a bit of a journey in the one song Pretty amazing effort on the drums for the final third. Reading the booklet, apparently the karate kid (Byrne) does vocals.....Wonder which track?

Mike does backing vocals on Pinwheels, maybe Pale Horse too ... but he does Pinwheels live too (with Nicole also). It's a nice mix with their voices, instead of the usual 'wall of Billy' say from Zeitgeist

I find this is a really easy record to listen to. Usually Pumpkins music takes a bit of work to get into, thats ok because the rewards are there I feel. But Oceania I'm into straight away. Hope that doesn't mean I tire of it too quick. It flows on well from previous TBK songs.
Possibly the least controversial Pumpkins record ?

Dissapointing on first listen, although enough quality there to justify the project. For me at times it seems a little contrived - like they were trying to do too much too often, with constant change ups and downs, which kind of made for a stunted, awkward, and inconsistent end product. I've always been a fan of their simpler works, and in fact the KROQ acoustic numbers are so much better than the album tracks imo. Overall, some quality vocals and guitars, but let down by disjointed fillers, ambiguous lyrics, and overly complicated construction. Still, this is a first listen of course, and i am sure it will improve with familiarity, but i think this could be one album that might translate better to the stage than the recording. Highlights: Pale Horse, Glissandra, The Chimera, Inkless Lowlights: Wildflower, One Diamond One Heart, Oceania, and the new revamped version of My Love is Winter Edit: I guess with a forum name like Insanity's Horse it should come as no surprise as to which song i picked as my favourite

To put it more into perspective, they played Bleed on the Oceania release cruise, a song 24+ years old and one of the first they wrote and performed, yet it still has an intrinsic quality to it that outshines anything on Oceania.

I hear what you're saying about Bleed and I put it down to 'keeping it simple'. The one thing that sticks out with me is a song like One Diamond, One Heart - it does nothing for me on the album, however I hear a solo acoustic version Billy performed on KROQ and it's stunning! It has beauty, depth and I can hear his heart in that performance.
To me it's like if Billy was to record a simple song like 33 now, would it have multiple layers - keys etc like One Diamond, One Heart?
You take it back to something like Bleed it's a simple goth-pop song ... and perhaps that's what makes it so timeless.
