Haha that's funny bec! Scott your pics are fucking awesome, I love looking at them! I so hope there are Manson passes, I entered the metalobession comp to win fix because we can't really afford to go but I haven't seen him since Canberra around 2004 ish. I will hire a lens if Manson is a go, I wish I could buy both zooms

The Dwarf gave me Jamie T for september @ Hi-Fi, don't even know who that is, i just applied for a few. i think i'll have to end up backing out of it anyway cos it's on the same weekend as that Blueprint Festival in Ararat that i want to go to.

I now have a few gigs lined up and really want my new lens but can't afford it!
I have Parkway Drive, Cannibal Corpse, Sarah Blasko and Dappled Cities. There is some diversity for my portfolio, right there!

oh dude, you're gonna regret Parkway Drive (unless you're a fan). i had a pass for them last december and the crowd was HORRIBLE. it was a whole night of crazy metal core bands and they were all just ugh - see some horrible metal bands on my flickr. anyway good luck, haha. at our one we could only shoot from the side of the barrier cos it was too dangerous, lmao. actually Scott was at that one too, you could do a search for his pics on flickr too. so lucky you got Sarah Blasko! i can't wait to see her, i was going to try for a pass but want to enjoy it from front row, she's amazing <3 i don't have anything lined up that i know of, but looking forward to getting back into going to gigs around Melbourne and just taking photos for myself, i missed it. seeing Grafton Primary tonight, and going to 3 random gigs tomorrow night haha.

The crowd at Parkway was very UGH indeed. Because I had to hang around out front for ages I got to see all the kids acting like dicks, there were constantly like 50 - 100 people out the front of the venue and im thinking "dude, didn't you pay to go to this gig - why are you outside". So many emo/screamo kids showing off, punching each other up, drinking alcohol/energy drinks and being loud. I have never been to a gig with so many annoying brats! When inside it wasnt bad because Thebbie had quite a large pit, and i was the only photographer for some reason, so there wasn't really an issue. Trivium was worse because the pit was only about 2 metres wide and there were like 5 photographers and 6 security and crowd surfers coming over constantly, but that was heaps of fun! Here is my Parkway Drive set: www.flickr.com/photos/scotopic_lux/sets/72157622124953000/

Laurence from myspace told me i should apply and i got an email back saying welcome to the team, pretty cool. the cool thing is they want you to just ask for gigs you want to cover, and then they try and get you on the door want to apply Scott? www.ravereview.com.au

hahaha, yours is hilarious. i need to think about what to write, i'm crap at this stuff. and yeah they do seem really cool, already said i can do Shihad, Tame Impala and Ska Nation. i think they'd be good for getting the opportunity to shoot gigs that are a bit bigger, there's so much competition on FL that it's still pretty hard to get that stuff. although Aimee Mann tomorrow night is at the Palais, so that'll be good experience

nice work on shihad i already had a ticket, but organised myself a photo pass so i didnt have any problems getting my camera in I was gonna request Tame Impala, but pulled out incase i couldnt be fucked, but you'd already gotten it regardless im hoping we do get to do some bigger gigs, but i can see some problems for her as she is a shooter, and organises the passes, its a hard line to draw between being nice to the contributors, and taking the big gigs for yourself... i feel her pain

That is my problem, I havent even applied for anything on FL for ages, because I would just never get anything. I usually apply for 3 or 4 with The Dwarf and get one of them (which I am happy with), and then Scott gets my whatever is going in Adelaide that wont hurt my girly little ears too much So scott is my best chance at the bigger gigs. Is this Rave Review thing only Melbourne based? I sent of emails to Rolling Stone and JJJ a while ago just volunteering my services if needed. Of course, no response but I thought it couldnt hurt. Oh and my Dappled Cities shots are up here www.flickr.com/photos/scotopic_lux/sets/72157622266618560/ and at the Dwarf. The gig was great but the lighting was terrible. They had a projector screen behind them and for most of the night it was shining into their eyes which meant the top half of their faces were covered in bright white light, and the rest of them wasnt! I used my f1.8 50mm, but like I mentioned on Twitter, such a shallow DoF that they are pretty soft. I really wish I had more chance to practise shooting gigs so i can test all the settings my camera has, but its so full on usually and there is pressure to get shots that i dont get time to play around.

okay so i'm meant to be doing Paul Dempsey for the Dwarf tomorrow and still no confirmation email, even after sending reminders. if this falls through i don't think i'll bother anymore. they gave me Kisschasey @ FTG hotel when i applied today, but i forgot i hate their guts so wouldn't care if that fell through.

I guess there aren't as many photogs in adelaide shooting for the Dwarf, because I usually get one of the ones I ask for from them. Where as FL I get Jack shit. And I like that The Dwarf is booked so far ahead, where as FL is so last minute, that doesn't work as well for me. Once I had like 5 hours notice, FAIL!!

if i don't get the confirmation email by the time i leave work tonight, do you reckon i should just shoot anyway (but pay for entry), or just say fuck it and not do it since it didn't get organized? i'm leaning towards the latter...

so after all that i didn't even get to go to the gig! got an email from Lisa around 4pm saying their coverage had been pulled, and Trev hadn't bought a ticket still cos we were hoping i'd get a +1. anyway we just figured we'd buy tix on the door, and i get a call from him at 7pm saying he called the venue and it had sold out the day before at least it wasn't someone i really wanted to see, and now i actually have free time this weekend to work on my trip photos so it's not so bad

We went to Cannibal Corpse last night but it was kinda crap as there was no barrier and me trying to get photos! Haha. I managed to work my way to the front of stage at the side but there was no moving and I was surrounded by flying hair! My 50mm was a bit too tight for being that close but I wasn't going to push my way any further around in the crowd, no way sir. So I got what I could and then Jessy and I took me and my headache home. Jessy will write a little something up for you Scott but seriously every song sounded the same ( I don't mean to write off the music or their skill, but down the front I couldn't tell if ut had been 1 song or 3 haha). We stayed a little then headed off. We had gone to dinner and taken our time heading to the venue. We got there just after 9. My name wasn't on the door, but the nice door lady read the email and made a call and Jessy and I got in no dramas. Lucky we got there when we did because CC came on at 9:30! I got some interesting shots I think. I couldn't always get a good "typical" rock shot so I was experimenting and got some cool stuff. I was using some manual focus and tried to stay around f2.8. Will post the results soon

hmmm... in my mind i had already replied to that guess not. Interesting you were going manual with your focus! Hope the crowd wasnt too rough when you were trying that And no worries about the review, no one but me knows there was a reviewer down for the show I got my first gallery up for Rave. Well, i was shooting for MO, but they didnt have any photographers there, so i put them up there aswell. I do like the zen photo plug in they have. I want a way of people putting up there own photos without getting access to the entire site. Light was pretty poop, but the meh. whats done is done.

rave have shooter cards now! haha. sophie was at metric last night and gave me a big bunch, and laurence was there aswell, but his pass didnt go through for myspace. actually nadia was also there but wasnt shooting. just before metric went on laurence gave me his flash to take pics along the barrier, didnt quite go to plan, but i got 3 pics before metric came on it was my first time! metric was really good. awesome live band. i lost my hood somehow during the first 3 songs, and i thought meh, its porobably broken on the ground by now. then i noticed it on the stage where emily was dancing quickly grabbed it before she landed on it and fell. could ahve been interesting!

i want to try using a flash too! is it confusing? i'm too shy to ask someone to teach me will check out your pics soon i promise. that's cool about the cards too, i'm assuming Sophia gave you some? fuck fuck fuck - i think i mentioned i applied for Kisschasy @ FTG hotel for The Dwarf but forgot i hated them. anyway i never got around to coming up with an excuse not to do it, and just got the confirmation for it today (it's on friday), and i have tix to Wolf & Cub which i def don't want to miss. i replied to Lisa saying i was shooting another gig, i hope they can organize someone else to do it in time or i'll feel bad. i'm kind of over The Dwarf, i'll keep applying for stuff i'm interested in but really can't be bothered, they're too disorganized.
