that's so cool! your tag isn't too big, it's nice and not a huge URL in some ugly font. do you always upload your pics that big though? i'd be a bit careful if i were you, i never put any photos online bigger than 600px tall. before you know it someone will be chopping off your tag and printing them. my friend used to run a Powderfinger fan site and a couple of years ago someone downloaded all her concert pics and was trying to sell them on ebay, for that reason i never post any pics without my tag, no matter how crap they are. it's pathetic that photography is basically my job and you guys know way more about it than me, lmao. i'm thinking about looking up some short courses or something.
still haven't uploaded my pics, at least there's less to photoshop but it'll still take me an hour or two.

Hey guys, what are the specs for uploading photos? I have found a tutorial on HOW to do it, but it doesnt say what size they want them to be? what they show online is pretty small, do you submit larger and they scale down, or do you submit that small?

they scale them down, i always resize mine to 600x400 and then upload them

Do you have a mac at home bec? the upload doesnt seem to be working for me on the FL website It says it is uploading the photos by counting down (ie uploading 10 files, uploading 9 files) but the little grey indicator bar doesnt move and when it gets down to 1 it just sits on 'uploading 1 files' I assume its a compatibility issue?

yeah i'm on a mac, i actually have problems with the FL site quite a bit, which is why it took me so long to become a contributor. i'm probably a bit late now, but did you try just uploading them again? i just put mine up but i guess they won't be published until tomorrow, here's one though

Yeah i got it working in the end, but stupidly when you hit the enter button it submits the gallery, and as you know, hiting enter/return is something that you do without thinking so it submitted my album without completing every info area. I emailed the dude for SA as he said to let him know when its up, that was at 1am and i havent heard back and seeing as i dont know that it worked i just then uploaded again with complete info - surely they can moderate enough to not upload the wrong one. Anyway, i will put up a few of my pics here in the mean time. I didnt upload very many really, i dont want to upload every crappy shot that i took so i only ended up with a gallery of about 30 pics including punters.

30 would be totally fine, i've seen album with only 1.5 pages. i tried to leave you a shout back but when i clicked on your profile again it said you don't exist! wtf, that site is starting to shit me

yeah the site is pissing me off too - i had that last night when trying to add you and scott - or you click a link to one person and it takes you to some random. Its a really really hard site to navigate and find the info that you are looking for.
Nice shot btw bec, cant wait to see the rest of your album.

nice work guys if the light was really as boring as you said bec, have you tried some black and white shots to try and vary the one colour lighting they had there? and the site is the biggest p.o.s. as far as a social site. everytime you click on a person it comes up with the your so rcok, person doesnt exist message! grrrrr! so frustrating! and i'm gonna try shrinking all my images from now on just to be on the safe side usually i do put them up that big. and at disturbed yesterday it was pretty strict. even though i was shooting, and had a ticket, i couldnt bring my camera inside till i was meant to be shooting. so had to cloakroom 4grands worht of shit in my bag.. a little nervous.. then took it out when i was meant to shoot, did my 3 songs, got some pretty cool pics, and actualy chatted to some people this time 3 songs over, get kicked out, sprint to car to put camera away, and re-enter with my +1 ticket. so if just shooting, all you see of the gig is the 3 songs that you shoot. also had to sign a release form which is a first for me.

woah that's crazy, i wouldn't want to cloak my stuff either. i love that second shot Kerrie! and mine still aren't published, wtf. i'm getting paranoid that they thought they were too crap to put up, lmao. Scott - that's a good point, i had a mental blank and didn't think to photoshop a few to black & white. i've got my photoshop stuff set up as actions, so i literally open the photo, press F3 and alter a couple of things, and i'm done.
i haven't checked my email yet to see if they've sent out the gig list for this week but i don't think i'll apply for any for a few weeks now. i've got my 100th concert coming up and i want it to be someone i actually like, not just some random band that i got to see for free.

I got told by the SA editor that there is a glitch with the gallery upload and that he couldnt approve anything until the techs get in this morning...i assume it must be the same for all uploads.

i only heard about photoshop macros from my borther yesterday! its such a pain in the arse resizing, and adding the watermark! but now it'll be easy! haha. this week i only applied for funeral for a friend. i really cant be arsed shooting small bands to start up a profile on FL, so i doubt i'm ever gonna get anything till i make more time and shoot some smaller bands for them first. And i wanna try compiling a list of all the gigs i've been to. i do one every frikken year, loose it, make it again, and always forget bands my opeth pics are here: flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157607170600111/ (metal obsession is down ) I'm already over those pics, the disturbed ones are way cooler with the bigger zoom.. as i now have actual close up shots. Now i gotta write an interview for a phone interview with a swedish metal band for 6pm tonight.. i wish i could quit my day job for the music life

wtf is photoshop macro? do you know how to set up actions? if not i can try and explain it, it makes life so much easier, i do it every single day for work. i've been meaning to mention, if you guys ever need photoshop help let me know, i've pretty much got it permanently both at work and home. i'm not an expert but i might be able to help =) Scott those photos are awesome! i'm an organization freak so i've got an ongoing list of my music collection & concerts, mostly because i forget what i own/have been to, and so i know what number i'm up to. i'll post the list when i get to 100 i should get back to work now....

lol, macro is what my brother called it. he didnt know what it is in photoshop, but thats whats its called in programing. and i just used it for my disturbed pics! its awesome! i've never used it before, and it made it so much quicker! i didnt know how to put the wordmark in, but i could shrink my files, and savea copy using the actions! it rocks disturbed pics: www.flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157607171145467/none of the photos you guys uploaded are on FL yet

those are kickass! i'll have to show them to my friend, i'm pretty sure she went. when it comes to photoshopping & tagging my pics, i've got my tag saved on as an individual file on my desktop, so i just go through my actions and drap & drop the tag on at the end and i'm done =)

Scott - are you shooting Faker on friday? Kerrie - i still can't get into your profile to see your pics on FL, wtf. do you have a direct link to the album from the other night? i had to re-upload mine last night (and they order has been changed, that bugs me), and i got an email from Tom (Melbourne rep) saying that FL's sister site In The Mix wants to put my pics up too. i checked out the site, it's all about clubs and shit, totally not my scene. i signed up as a contributor though, i don't know how i'm supposed to put my photos up though... i was talking to this girl who i'd met on sat night saying how crap i thought my pics were, and she said someone had submitted photos from their PHONE as an album, how bad. www.fasterlouder.com.au/gallery/7099/Sam-Sparro.htm

The links never work on FL i just went to photos > radelaide > then just looked for skrelly you did a shitload of social snaps Kerrie! And i noticed there were 2 types of light bec in yours, red AND natural! And you said just red haha! I’m not shooting faker.. turns out I’m not even going. But am going to shihad at FTG hotel Only thing I’m shooting this week is Judas Priest at Vodafone Arena. But I might skip that.. it appears to be a PIT photo pass! What’s the point of the big frikken barrier if you can’t shoot from it? Shooters get to enter 20 minutes before priest, have to get to the front of the crowd, and shoot 3 songs, then leave! Stupid crap! I can’t believe they actually allowed the phone pics! Its ridiculous!

wtf, how can you be expected to make your way to the front all on your own? and at a metal concert no less, you'd probably get stabbed by some angry fan.
Scott - i used a flash for some pics at the gig, because i was out of ideas for how to get them to look better/different. is it possible to change how bright the flash is?

I only took that many because we get told we must take 15 - 20 social shots by FL. I took exactly 15 haha, so painful for me.
I'm not applying for any this week, the gigs only went up yesterday and I have lots of TAFE work to catch up on.

I got an email from the SA editor saying he still had a few gigs with no photographer if i wanted one (i hadnt applied for any this week) so i am shooting The Matches on Sunday night. I had no idea who they were but their website was really cute and then i heard one of their songs on their myspace page an recognise it from JJJ it goes..."wake up, wake up with the sun, wake up..." haha you know it?
I also asked him if photographers ever get +1's or if it is just the reviewers, and he said it is "industry standard for no plus ones, unless the gig is sponsored by FL then there is a perhaps"
But bec, havent you been getting plus ones? Maybe i should get Jessy to do some reviewing!

stupid pricks no names were on the door. so didnt see shihad last night. kerrie, you need to start your own website so you can organise the photo and reviewer passes and get friends to review otherwise i find it gets bored shooting gigs alone looks aelaide is the place to be if they come to you about shooting

that's crap they said that Kerrie, i've had +1s for mine (except the first because it was such a small venue). it's cool to be able to offer free tix to friends, but i feel guilty for bringing them and then being like "okay bye i've gotta go take some photos" haha. my friend said he didn't mind though =) oh and i know who The Matches are, this guy i met at RHCP last year was an obsessed fan. i think they might be the kind of band that's not that big here but have a small group of really hardcore fans.
i got some good ones at Faker, or at least one that seems pretty awesome, i'll post them in the upcoming concerts thread once i've photoshopped them etc.

I went out and bought a 4GB CF card yesterday as i only had a 1 GB card and that filled up pretty quick shooting RAW the other night. I have asked at a few places about 50mm 1.8 lenses, $149 is the price i keep getting quoted. Is that what you paid Scott? Is yours a Canon though? That is the price for genuine canon, i think i will have to try and pick one up asap but my only heistation is the distance, you find you get close enough scott?

50mm is good when you're close to the front. can be too much if you're shooting right at the stage something infront of you.. but can get some cool crops happening i paid 140 for mine, i was in a rush as alot of places were closing, and my final place along the street was JB, and i said i want the 50mm f1.8, and the dude said i'll give it to you for 140 so go to a JB and just ask how low they will go i like to barter, but was in a rush these pics were taken at the corner, at the stage on the left, and one 'row' back on the right, and all taken with the 50mm lens.. metalobsession.net/gallery?album=8&gallery=26

i just signed up for the dwarf.. figured there might be some non metal i want to shoot, and 2 chances is better than one. it just looks kinda dodgy though the website. and got confirmation for down@metro, and underoath@billboards. i barrier gigs

congrats! i don't think i've gotten any confirmation with The Dwarf yet...
hey Scott have you ever noticed a really old guy shooting at some of the same gigs as you? he's from FL and looks at least 60, and dresses like a 90s computer technician. i've seen him at a bunch and he was at Faker on friday, and asked to get a social snap of me and the girls i was talking to, i asked who he was on FL and it turns out he's this guy Atomic who's shot an insane amount of gigs. he had pmed me (before i knew who he was) when i'd first put up my 67 Special pics saying i did a good job etc, and after a couple of replys he said "you can add me to myspace if you want", and i looked at his page and it said he was 40 something, so i was a bit creeped out and didn't reply anymore. so now that i know who he is in person, he's either lying about his age by a good 20 years, or he aged freakishly fast. he looks so out of place at gigs! and he was shaking heaps when he was trying to focus his camera, hahaha. /random

I just signed up for the dwarf also! haha. I got my username the other night but then had to go out so only just got to apply for the contributors part then. Like you said, the more chances the better.
I just uploaded my shots from The Matches gig last night, they should be moderated tonight or tomorrow. The light was SO much better, but still my lenses werent fast enough. The setting were pretty good for the first band, and im sure i didnt change anything but i just couldn't get the shots for the rest as good. Its so hard when they are jumping around all over the place also. But i am kinda happy with what i got.
I have to say it kinda annoys me when i get into a gig to shoot it and get told no flash, first three songs and then there are 2 or 3 others people will pro cameras just like mine who shoot through the whole gig and use flash but because they didnt have a pass they are allowed. I mean, i probably could get away with shooting the whole gig (remember all my gigs have been small with no barrier) but i dont want to risk getting caught and not getting any more gigs, but i just find it frustrating. But i guess that is part of the job.
