^ that would shit me too did you go to Billy's Melbourne show in 2005? that venue (The Palais) has got to be one of the worst in terms of security & enforcing rules. every time i go there they say no cameras, and anyone who tries to get one through the door is told to put it back in their car or cloak it. then once you get inside for the actual concert, people will be taking photos non-stop and security does nothing. i got told to put mine away when i went to John Mayer in 2006, and i was pretty crushed cos i had 4th row seats (ended up getting second row) and was dying to get some good shots of him since i only had shit ones from his previous shows. anyway when i get in there for the show, people were taking photos with flashes non-stop throughout the show, i was so furious!
let me know when your Matches pics are up Kerrie! your other ones were cool, in case i forgot to mention it.

haha! yeah, i know the guy! i hate his logo! It’s so.. there! i first saw him at the arthouse shooting the eternal/sleepmakeswaves a few weeks back.. and he always used his flash that gig.. it was so annoying and big.. and he was pissing me off top guy. i freaked out when I saw his age on FL.. i think he must be lying! He looks waaaay older! he was also shooting at opeth. but he's done like 160+ gigs for FL alone! that’s crazy! He gets some good pics though. Small gigs all i can use is my 50mm.. otherwise it’s all blurry, and a waste of time when its time i could have been using my 50. I thought you were shooting this coming Sunday! Will check if they are up yet

He looks waaaay older! he HAS to be lying about his age, there's no way he's in his 40s. and yes i hate his tag too, arggg!! he had FL cards to hand out to the people he was snapping though, which i know used to be part of the member kits when you sign up. i might bug Tom for some... i applied for Josh Pyke for this thurs, i'm already going but i want extra tix, haha. i also applied for Mammal, doubt i'll get either though. your photos are great Kerrie!

I didn’t apply for anything as I have birds of Tokyo on Thursday, was gonna apply for mammal as they’re mean to be an awesome live band.. but am seeing jeff martin, and Saturday is soccer presentation.. so photography free weekend for me goodluck!

a girl at my work knows the band (Mammal) so got her name on the door +2 for the gig, and asked if i wanted to go. i've heard their name a billion times but haven't checked out their music, so i'm gonna look them up tonight and decide then if i want to go. i've heard they're great live too, so i thought if the crowd is insane (which it probably will be) i could just stand back a bit and get some photos.

That's great bec, I didn't get Josh Pike, was offered Pinky Beecroft for tonight but I have too much school work - and my photo5 box arrived so I want to get started on that.
Glad you both like my pics! Thanks.
I so desperately need a faster lens though. Its so disappointing when something that looks good on my viewfinder ends up being blurry on the monitor. It so hit and miss.
No where I have asked has had the canon 1.8 50mm in stock, but I am going to the city on friday so I will grab one then.

Where's Josh Pyke Bec? i just got confirmation for slipknot/machinehead and meshuggah. No +1s as slipknot are prics apparently. So i wont be able to watch the show after or before i shoot

Josh is at the Prince Bandroom, have you shot there before Scott? i didn't get a +1, but at least i ended up with one free ticket to give away. i've never been any further back there than second row, and i reckon i've been there about 10 times now. the show is sold out so i'll have to make sure i get a good spot in line...

never even been there before.. but that doesnt mean much i thought he was bigger than that though. but smaller places are cool to see bands which is a plus.. especially as your a fan i think that is a draw back of my shooting, i'm getting some big names, but am yet to shoot a band i really like

it's a promo tour, his album comes out in a couple of weeks. i think this will be the 5th time i've seen him, the biggest venue i've seen him at was The Forum. the Prince is cool, you should definitely try and go for a gig there one time, i've been to alot of good shows there.

I am meant to be getting some sent to me, from the very first time i spoke to the SA editor about 3 or 4 weeks ago but still nothing congrats on the front page of FL Melb. I had a look at your shots, some really nice ones there! well done, looks like the light was hard!

ugh the lights sucked! i was pretty annoyed - same deal with Grafton Primary, i'd been looking forward to going as a fan but spent half the night stressing over my photos. The Faint are at the same venue, but i've gotten some good shots there in the past so hopefully this one will be better. i asked Tom (Melbourne editor) how many social pics i'm meant to take, and he said roughly one third-a quarter of the album. i guess i need to step it up a bit at this one, but i'm getting more confident now, the cards will help i think.

ofcourse, the other way is you just put up less band pics easier to get a third for social snaps then! ;D and well done on the faint! i havent heard about testament this friday @ the hifi. maybe i'll have 2 weekends off

Dude from testament finally replied. And I am shooting tomorrow. Not a fan of shooting at the hi fi. I don’t like interacting with people and not having a barrier but at least it’s another gig

i haven't heard of Testament but i'm guessing they're a metal band? i've always liked the Hi-Fi, you can rock up late and still get a great spot on the steps. i haven't been there in nearly a year though...

I've only been to the hi-fi bar once, years ago - i think it was 1999 or 2000 to see placebo. It is pretty small.

Haha. Yeah, it would have been cool seeing them in such a small venue. And yeah, testament are some crappy old school thrash metal band But at least its shooting a gig i guess next week is Wednesday, Saturday, and week after is Friday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday that could kill me!

lazy shit haha. seems like you should be right once you start applying though.. being in adelaide and all that. testament was cool last night. Promoter =- fucking douche. he said i had passes. Rang up the hifi, and he answered, was a fucking arse. Told me he hadnt organised anything, and i'd have to speak to the tour amnager from testament. Got there, no names on the door, but they said promoter = douche so just go in, and no one was there for me to meet. but security cleared me (without a photo pass) for photo and video haha. shame i dint ahve a video camera. Anyways, there was a barrier at the hifi! crazy stuff. i was the only pohotographer which was nice there was no security either! so crowd surfers fell to the ground! ouch! should ahve some good shots though hopefully!

woah that sounds like a nightmare! how can they have no security are a metal gig, especially one with a barrier, that's kind of scary... i'm checking out your photos now, they're awesome! oh and you said you shot Birds of Tokyo right? i met a guy last night who was the drummer for the support Fading Hour, did you take any pics of them?
The Faint show on friday night was alright, not great. lots of fans fucked out on drugs etc, and at the start we had some disgusting smelly drunk dude behind us pushing and thought it was funny to put his hand in front of our cameras. the lighting was cool to watch if you were there as a fan because the stage was almost totally dark and they just had their own lights sitting on the floor and these other ones from the roof that would flash, but as a shooter it wasn't the best because there were lots of times when the band were almost playing in total darkness. i'll post the link when they're up on FL.
anyway i need help now - i took a whole bunch of social pics on my other camera (the one i had on the SP tour), and now the fucking card won't read! when i plugged it in there was a lock symbol on the card folder and wouldn't let me eject it so i had no choice but to just rip it out, and now it's saying 'card not initialized'. then when the disk utility thing loads it's not registering on there either =/

photos from The Faint - www.fasterlouder.com.au/gallery/7872/1/The-Faint.htmi was hanging out with another girl who was shooting and have met up with before at some other shows, and she forgot her memory card so we shared mine, so as a thankyou she bought me a year's membership on flickr! pretty awesome.

i looked at the BOT photos on FL but i couldn't see any of the drummer from Fading Hour, oh well. i think they just put the latest ones up on the Melbourne page, when i see my name in the 'hot photographers' section i'll get excited. when i was taking social pics after the show on friday, i took a photo of these three people and one of the guys said he was a photographer for a newspaper (taking photos of dead bodies, lmao). anyway he borrowed my camera and changed a bunch of settings and took a few pics of his friends and they were soooo cool! he had the shutter speed down to something like 1.6, but there's obviously a technique to making them look cool and getting the lights to blur like that - any ideas guys??
